first one to go in here has to be Chris Gunter from Cardiff to Spurs

Huge speculation which aint being denied that spurs have been tracking our 18-year-old right back with varying figures banded around re: price. He's broken into our first team and the Welsh national team this term and looks a very good prospect. How far he can go, is another question. I'd imagine that any transfer to spurs would be an investment for the future rather than a straight place in the side like Gareth Bale had. With Cardiff's legal problems being deffered, the banks arent giving us any more money, so January may see us selling a couple of our better youngsters if good offers come in. I'd expect to get at least £2m for Gunter, but if we need the money, I'm sure spurs will be willing to drop their offer....

According to many sources, Serbia U21 captain and Locomotiv Moscow defender Branislav Ivanovic is heavily linking with Manchester United and Chelsea!

Juventus have shown an interest to sign Ivanovic a few months ago, while Inter Milan, AC Milan, Barcelona and Real Madrid have also join the race...

I think Spurs will be ever so busy buying/selling as soon as the window opens.
A new manager with the status of Ramos must have demanded a serious budget for January as one of the conditions for joining the club. One thing that worries me is that in the forums only names from EPL are mentioned, I don't think there are many good names available. Second, Ramos knows well Primera and I would expect a couple of names from there, to sort out his defence. But what Spurs really need is a playmaker, no wonder Ramos pulled Berbatov back a bit giving him more creative tasks. Such players are expensive and hardly anyone available, if yes, Spurs either have to trade Berbatov or expect them to spend a lot again.

can i start a wholly unsubstantiated "ronaldhino for spurs" rumour then?

Diego would be good enough, wouldn't mind Ben Arfa, as of Ronaldinho I would rather stay away from him, Bale is good enough on the left, the Brasilian will only mess around . Funny as it is , come summer I am sure Xabi and Iniesta will be on the Ramos list, if he is still at WHL........

I'm sure that if at all possible Ramos would love to keep hold of Berbatov. Selling him without good reason ie bringing in a direct replacement would smack of a lack of ambition and would be seen as selling out by the fans. I think that most of us were disappointed when Carrick left, even if by his choice that even more would be gutted if Berbatov went. Plus I could never wear my Spurs shirt again seeing as it bears his name on the back!

As for Iniesta or Xavi... yes please!! Either one would be fantastic as they have definite class and I'm sure better clubs than us would be sniffing about if either of those two were to be made available.

Been told this from a reliable source at City.

Manchester City have agreed a deal with Herenveens Alves and he has agreed a contract. Only problem is down to the work permit but it is likely to go through.

Boro have been told Crouch and Defoe are not available full stop for transfer. Southgate is likely to bring an experienced striker in on loan if he can't seen Counsins from Rangers.

I would expect Davies to go to Southampton on permenent deal from Boro. The club are very keen to offloead Mendieta who does not have a shirt number and only 6 months of his contract left.

Villa are gunning after a targetman to replace John Carew. I've heard Eidur Gudjohnsen is the most likely target.

Louis Saha and Wes Brown and 6m to Spurs, Berbatov to Manchester United would seem a likely deal, and good for both clubs

deal reported to have been struck - amounts vary between £3m-£4m from reports but looks like it will be a good sum up front with further add-ons for various achievements/developments.

You don't mind if I kill myself laughing at that last statement do you? A good deal for both clubs? So Berbatov a striker who is amongst the most talented in Europe to be swapped for £6m plus 2 players who don't make Man U's starting line up!! Add in the fact that I believe Brown's contract expires this summer, or at least within the next 18 months and the standard of the deal just gets better! Now add in the fact that Defoe is probably a better striker than Saha especially bearing in mind how injury prone Saha has been lately. If you think it's a good deal it seems you are more or less suggesting Berbatov is worth no more than £15m?

Is he worth the money? Heard different rumours between him being another Bale in the making to the fact that he's playing more times for Wales than for Cardiff. What's the truth?

difficult to really know how he will progress as he was just another academy player a year ago. He's certainly held his own in the championship this season and i think the only reason that he's not played more for us was Jones' resistance to dropping players he signed in the summer. He's taken advantage of the fact that Wales have poor strength in depth and when injuries mounted up, he stepped in and did well (including being part of the defence that kept a clean sheet in Germany). he's got something that the scouts like and we turned down 2 7-figure bids from everton in the summer.

imo, its a bit difficult to compare with Bale - Bale has more LWB qualities and is more confident going forward on the ball, whereas Gunter is more a defensive full back. however, at this stage in his career, he can certainly be coached into a slightly different role.

i'm not sure about him walking into the spurs side though - more one for next season perhaps. i just hope that he gets a chance if he goes to you - i wouldnt want to see him drift into the reserves and onto the forgotten men list.

Thanks for the write up Aliando. One thing with Spurs is that if a player is good enough, then he's considered old enough.

That deal stinks for Spurs! Saha is shite, Brown isn't much better and out of contract in the summer. Berbatov is a class act, I don't see it happening.

January

Wenger went on to explain that he will not be bringing in defensive cover during the January transfer window, despite losing Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Eboue to the African Cup of Nations.

"We could be left short. Even with Johan [Djourou, coming back from loan] we would then be left with just three specialist centre-backs," he said.

"If I signed another one we'd have too many after the African Cup of Nations. Sometimes you just have to suffer during the tournament and let your players play."

Thanks for the write up! Seems like we're following a definite youth policy right now, signing players that will turn out potentially great as perhaps we feel we can't sign players at the top of their game right now whether that's a case of finance or losing out to other clubs. I think it's a tactic that can prosper especially when we're continually showing that we're not afraid of blooding young players, especially if they have enough about them to warrant selection.
