| Skybets books are out for Saturday's FA CUP 2nd qualifying round, if I knew how to I would post them on this thread!!! Perhaps you could do the honours Ships? 4/9 is skinny odds on an away team, even tough a first glance at the coupon and I was straight on Salisbury City to win at VTFC in Southampton on Saturday. In this case 4/9 is value. It is Wessex leagues VTFC's first venture into this competition in recent years and they have done exceptionally well to progress this far. 3 away wins, all significantly at VTFC's level 5 or below (Frimley Green, Hythe Town and North Greenford) so far have seen the club paired with the local big boys who's ever growing travelling support will swell the usual sub 100 crowd to a scary level for the home players. Their FA CUP exploits have ensured that VTFC have only played 5 league games so far. As mentioned before in threads the Wessex league have 2 or 3 teams who will always win the section, a large bunch of also-rans and 5 or 6 who will be happy to survive come the end of the season. VTFC are an also-ran. Wins against Ringwood and Brading IOW, with respect had to be expected and the only real challenge the club has come up against is Wimborne away, which they duely lost 4.0. A 2.3 home defeat to Bermeton Heath Harlequins (who are Salisbury's second team) will have the City strikeforce of Tubbs and Matthews licking their lips in anticipation of increasing their already impressive strike partnership. Salisbury head the Level 2 Conference South with a team capable of going all the way. City are an attacking team, not frightened of taking the game to the opposition, this has reaped rich rewards as home teams struggle to cope with this ethic from last seasons Southern premier winners. The results away are impressive to say the least, wins at Bedford 2.1, Farnborough 1.0, Thurrock 5.1 and Yeading 3.1 were only broken by a defeat at early pacesetters Histon. At home they have won 5 and drawn 1 I am pretty convinced this 4/9 wont hang around for long VTFC v Salisbury City 4/9 Skybet 5 points Points ratio 0-10 mdp

| cheers Mid Devon Boy, im a Bedford Town fan myself, and looking at our own odds of 4/9 also, we're playing Dunstable Town, who are at level 4 of the non-league pyramid, whereas VTFC are at level 5, so its rather odd that Salisbury have the same price. Salisbury are also top of the Conference South 3 points clear of Histon, i can see nothing but a nailed on Salisbury win there. If they dont win, this will be one of the biggest shocks of the season. |

| Grim Reaper: My own team, Bishop's Stortford, visited Oxhey Jets for a County Cup game last season. We scraped through 3-2 after extra time!! They are doing reasonably well in their league and are based in a rough part of Watford with a good team mentality. |

| Bit more on the cup picks - stuffed for time once again, so this will be a bit brief... Adding my usual rider: I'm rubbish at cup games! Banbury U at Tonbridge Angels (9/4 Skybet 1pt) Looks like Andy Baird is playing some part, so with him and Howard Forinton up front and Jermaine McSporran probably being deployed as an attacking right midfielder (assuming he's playing) I think they'll have plenty to keep a Tonbridge rearguard busy - a unit that has conceded seven in the last four in the league. A tight game, with all results possible, but the price on Banbury is attractive because they are undefeated away. The betandwin prices have all been trimmed... Durham City are now 1.7 to beat Hallam. Ambitious Durham - one of the Arngrove sides seeking promotion to a revised Unibond - saw off higher-ranked Alsager last time out in the cup, despite being a man down from just before half-time. Hallam have beaten two Northern League sides to get this far - Div 2 Guisborough and, impressively, Div 1 Sunderland Nissan 2-1 at home. But I think this is a step too far for the Northern Counties East side. There's not great value in 1.7 mind. (The match is being played at Esh Winning's ground). Leatherhead are down from 2.7 to 2.35. Cray had a crop of injuries last week at home to Fleet and it showed - 4-0 down in half and hour. This will be much tighter, but Leatherhead are tucked in nicely in the league, winning 3-0 at Horsham YMCA on Saturday. After winning their first three, Cray have gone 0-1-2, conceding five and not scoring a goal. The price still has some potential, though I doubt if I would take it. Taunton Town are 3.1, chopped from 5.25, for the trip to Bashley. These are two up-n-at-em sides and I wouldn't be surprised if it ended 4-4, although Taunton are looking very solid defensively - two conceded against Bashley's ten. Back in the summer I made Bashely among the favourites for the section on the back of good signings like Craig Davis from Salisbury, and a solid core to the side, with young striker Richard Gillespie catching the eye (and perhaps destined for a move up the pyramid). Taunton lost key strikers Aaron Blakemore and Ryan Havard in the summer, and I didn't rate them at all, but Havard is back (and scored in a superb 4-1 at Oxford City on Saturday). Manager Gary Domone is shuffling his young pack well, despite money being very tight - they won an FA Cup prelim tie at Poole despite four players (and the boss, who later fined himself) stuck in traffic and having to play with ten men until the 80th minute. Team spirit is not in question, and I think this will be a very close match. 5.25 was a stonking price. I'm less attracted to 3.1, but it probably has some legs still. MDP's pick (and analysis) of Salisbury is absolutely superb too! (1-10 scale) |

| The mention of Wimbledon on this thread is an interesting one "license to print money" is a risky tactic, one I would not normally follow, but the 1/4 offered on a Kings Lynn victory at home to Midland league Causeway is definately better value than Wimbledon IMO. Causeway are a poor Midland league, level 5 side, and will have to have a remarkable "miracle" to prevent free scoring Lynn going through with room to spare. Currently without a home ground, Causeway are struggling near the foot of the table, with just 2 league wins to their credit. Sub 100 crowds and little in the bank, they won't be used to the 600 to 700 crowd in Norfolk. Their away form is poor, defeats so far at Romulus 5.0, Bolmere 3.1, Oadby 2.0, Tipton 4.1 tell it's own story and a 3.2 win at Westfields should not be a worry against a team with only one win this season. They have conceded a spectacular 25 goals and now come up against an attacking team pushing for promotion to the Conference South. The Linnets have scored an amazing 17 goals in their last 6 games and are scoring from all sides of the pitch. Of particular interest for the punter, is their impressively clinical 5.1 win at Tring in the last round. They will not be allowed to understaimate Causeway, but I will put my head on the line and say even at such a skinny price this is value odds. "Lincense to print money?" probably not! Will I be having a punt ? probably yes! Kings Lynn v Causeway 1/4 Skybet 7 points points ratio 0-10 mdp

| I've had a specualtive punt on Dover Athletic at 4/1 with a saver on the draw to overcome Thurrock. It is pity to see Dover playing at level 4 football in The Istmian South. But they are having a sound season and are looking good in areas of the field that could well frustrate Conference South, level 2, Thurrock. Dover have a strong defence, just 4 goals conceded so far and all 3 away matches won at Chatham 2.1, Molesey 3.0 and Sittingbourne 2.1...perhaps away results will become a habit on Saturday ? Thurrock are having a torrid time this season. A very leaky defence (worse in section 24 goals conceded in 11 games) will give the Kent team hope of breaking down the defence at least once Thurrock's Home form has been shocking starting the season with 4 straight home defeats, 2.4 Eastbourne , 1.5 Salisbury , 0.1 Braintree , 0.4 Histon. A couple of asstute signings have sheared up the defence a little and 2 straight home wins against Lewes 3.2 and Yeading 1.0 (last time out) have seen Thurrock steer clear of the relegation zone. However reports indicate a 30 minute purple patch in an otherwise poor performance against Lewes and a dour match against Yeading with a penalty sealing victory. In fact a penalty sealed victory in the Lewes match as well The ingredients are there for a potential upset, I think Dover and their travelling masses will relish this match...Thurrock will be fearing it, that's good enough for me for an outside punt. Thurrock v Dover Athletic 4/1 Skybet (plus saver on draw) 1 point points ratio 0-10 mdp

| What do you think to the Lymington & New Milton FC v Basingstoke game MDP? Basingstoke also having a horrid time in the Conference South and have a goal difference of -10 and should be bottom had Farnborough not been on -10 points. With Lymington having reached the 4th qualifying round 3 times since 1999, and having the largest goal difference of +12 in the Southern League South/West so they can score goals? Also with Home advantage. What seems strange with the odds in this game, is the fact that Thurrock and Dover are exactly the same number of league positions apart from each other as Basingstoke is to Lymington, so thats another anomaly there as far as the betting is concerned. The bookies seem to be showing an interest in this particular match (Lymington v Basingstoke) as one of the most likeliest shocks? Lymington is 13/8 to win on skybet. |
