Despite the fact that weather is likely to have a considerable say this weekend a couple for me on the early shows;

11/10 Barrow at home to Redditch United (Stan James, Bet Direct)
Redditch have perked up at home this year until the defeat to Solihull last week, but away they continue to be poor. The win at Leigh was thoroughly undeserved. They'll turn up for a point, but I think Barrow have enough to unlock a tightish but paceless rearguard.

7/4 Havant & Waterlooville away at Hayes & Yeading United (Bet 365)
Flavour of the month side Havant have been struggling away in the league, but it hasn't been the easiest of seasons - the disruption caused by the departure of Ian Baird should not be underestimated, and then there was the distraction of the cup run. But they showed to an audience of millions what devotees of the Punter's Lounge non-league threads have known for a while: they are a side with the players to get them top five. H&Y have had some impressive results but man for man they are not in Havant's class. If Havant turn up - an 'if', but their solid home form suggests they haven't had their heads turned totally - they should give us a decent run for our 7/4.

Just a quick note regarding the Kettering - Southport game... it looks like Kettering's injuries and suspensions may have an effect....I believe that Luke Graham and Mark Rawle are out injured and Gary Mills, David Bridges and Tommy Jaszczun are suspended. Any team in this league would miss 5 players and unless Kettering get some last minute transfers or loanees it looks like a closer game than the 3/1 odds would suggest.... added to that, Southport really need the win more than Kettering do in order to keep in touch at the top.

Agree totally, Stodin. Last night's result gives Southport a now-or-never opportunity, especially as they also have Kettering to play at home. Southport are perhaps less capable physically than Kettering, but they have much more creativity from out wide and in the box - that could be an important factor. 3/1 is far too big in the circumstances.

Ships - Any view on Gainsborough at home to Hinckley as 4/5 looks quite big based on current form.

Looks a good price, ford. Gainsborough are flying at the moment, and Hinckley are not in any sort of form - as I found to my cost when I backed them this week!

Barrow in to Evs and Havant to a best of 13/8. Both, I think, still offer a bit of value at those prices.

An interesting thread on the Conference South forum has been discussing the Basingstoke/Fisher game from a betting point of view. It's certainly an interesting one: Basingstoke were opposed on here last week, and they suffered a severe thumping at Eastbourne. I'm not sure if they'll field quite as inexperienced a side on Saturday, but it is one to watch. It's six straight wins since Boxing Day for Fisher, and they certainly have the momentum, with or without Jeff Goulding who has been on trial at Orient. Personally, I have my doubts - I think Fisher have had a few slices of luck with that run, and Basingstoke - despite their off-the-field distractions - are clearly better than last Saturday. I'd be interested to hear the views of others on this one.

I post and read on their myself and saw that and have had a little go. Fisher beat us 4-2 recently with the 4th late on with us pushing for an equaliser. They didn't look especially impressive but do counterattack at pace very well and can certainly be dangerous to many teams in this division on their day.

Couple that with the financial issues going on at The Camrose, with the players seemingly still not having taken the 20% pay cut and the question marks over their ground being up to scratch so as not to get demoted, i think Fish are in with a good chance.

I'm still torn, Chalmers. Not sure who'll be up front for Fisher this weekend, though it does look like a pretty ramshackle Basingstoke side. It's a real shame what's happening there - that club should be such a non-league force.

Well McColin the then 3rd choice i think look quite capable in scoring all 4 against us so if he was to play i think he could trouble. Not worth having a go though if you can't convince yourself about it.

True enough, Chalmers. They have some real talent there, and a surprising turnaround from events last season. I can tell I'm going to regret my indecision come this time tomorrow!

I think that you have to fancy the fisher tomorrow ships. They come off the back off a great one win win at bath city, long journey and all against a good team, and 1- o which is a nice thing to see because you do assocaiate burnet's teams with 4-3 type of games;but after the bad run earlier in the season,he has worked really hard on the defence.Simon overland is getting better by the day and the main plus for the fisher as i see it has been the form of scott gooding in the centre of defence.A no nonsense ,been there seen it done it centre half who has really brought on the talented youngsters that burnett always has an eye for.And to boot they won 1- 0 away against welling recently,so they can grit it out now.

Long term i still see no long term future for the fisher above this level, but that is a discussion for another day.

Basingstoke got shellacked by eastbourne and will be looking to bounce back but they do have 4/5 key players out still and morale generally seems light around the camrose.

Fisher do give you a chance and they are young but they always have a go away from home and that really is all you can ask for a team at 13/8.Mind you, do you factor in the famous camrose slope into your equation. ?Definately one for the accas,if not a decnt single with draw saver.

Elsewhere i like the look of eastborne at stortford, strong funtional and direct as they come, great set piece presence and they have serious goal threat.Stortford are a good side themselves but i expect gary wilson's boys to come through here

I MAY GO TO HAYES TOMORROW WHERE derek from the board still owes me a pint in that lovely art-deco stained club house.Good luck to one and all.

The Racing Post is tipping Fisher Athletic at Basingstoke today... Best odds are now 6/4 at Boyle. The whole world is on this punt apart from me!

Well done to those on Fisher today - and hats off to Chalmers and Ivor for making the case! I'm sure plenty PL members helped themselves.

Havant lost today, but at least Barrow landed nicely at a very decent price.
