SelectionLiverpool (Lay)

Bookmaker/PriceBetfair @ 1.77 (Lay)
ReasoningLiverpool look a touch overrated here against a Sunderland side who are certainly no mugs at home. A glance at last seasons table shows that Liverpool won less than half of their away games, so to price them up at around 8/11 looks short. Sunderland appear to have bought well enough. Diouf is always a handful and will soften the blow of losing Kenwyne Jones for 3 months whilst Malbranque will add some much needed creativity to their midfield.

Whilst Sunderland have bought well, i'm not convinced Liverpool have. Will swapping Crouch for Keane improve their attack? I dont think so. Dossena in for Riise at left back? Not really. Liverpool were poor midweek and shouldnt be less than evens here so a lay of the 1.77 available with betfair seems sensible

Sunderland vs Liverpool

First round in premier league and Sundeland will have realy hard job to stop Liverpool at home. Both teams didnt make big changes in their team.Sunderland in this game will try to keep Liverpool ofensive line and take at least one point from this game.In other side Rafa travel to Sunderland for first three points in new season. In head 2 head games Liverpool is much beter then Sunderland. In last 3 years all 4 games won Liverpool.Last year in this stadium was 0-2 for Liverpool.Last time when Sunderland won Liverpool was on 15.12.2002 when Sunderland won 2-1.I think that Liverpool have much beter team then Sunderland and in this game for me they are favorite and it will not be easy game but still Liverpool can take three points.Away win for this game and first 3 points for Liverpool in new season.

Bolton-Stoke
Stoke have been away from the top league for the last 23 years and their goal will be to avoid relegation. I do not expect them to get many points away from home during the entire season.
Bolton are a much more experienced side and I think this is a good price for a home win.
My pick: home win (1.86);

W. Ham-Wigan
IMO these are teams with similar value in terms of quality and capacity.
Playing at home is always an advantage (and the crowd is looking forward for the season kick off) and I see good value in taking the home win at this price.
My pick: home win (2.02);

Good luck!

Always good to start the new season with a profit:

1. won
2. won

Im going to lay my side West Ham against Wigan on Saturday. Theres no form going in to the season so im going to keep stakes low but I cant understand why we are Evens to beat them. Theyve got a brilliant record at Upton Park in recent years and Bruce will know how to frustrate us. Bellamy and Dyer have picked up long injuries and with Ashton looking completely out of sorts in the recent friendly against Villarreal, Cole looks our only player likely to score a goal. Behrami and Etherington looked creative on Saturday but that was that in what was a lucklustre performance. Wigan have made some shrewd signings in the summer, bringing in young prospects De Ridder, Kapo and Cattermole to what was already an able squad. I cant see where a West Ham goal will be coming from so this looks a brilliant laying opportunity to me.
I just cannot believe how we have come away with anything for todays game. We scored 2 goals in the opening 10 minutes which eventually ended up winning the game, but apart from that Wigan played us off the park. Zaki pulled one back early on in the 2nd half and I was waiting for the 2nd to go in and my lay to win but I was in a win-win situation as we ended up winning the game so im happy but I have done a lot of money on laying us today. Good start to the season for the team though

ReasoningNo value in a United win here but with United missing Ronaldo from todays game and Rooney not being 100% I don't think United will bag goals like they did last year against Newcastle tomorrow.

Newcastle are without there best forward Owen and its hard to see them scoring today.

I see this being 1-0/2-0 United and the 2.10 on offer is more than a fair price for unders.

Chelsea - Portsmouth under 2.5
Chelsea are missing their main attacking threat in Drogba and will find it hard to score against a Portsmouth side that will ensure it has plenty of players behind the ball. While Pompy have several injuries, but have added Crouch to their lineup, look to Terry to handle this aerial threat. Should be a close fought game as both defences minimise chances at both ends, and whil eChelsea may edge this, Pompy could come away wiht a point here.

Aston Villa
Villa have ahd a very good preaprtion for the start of the season and should win this from a a City side that were very ordinary in losing their UEFA Cup tie midweek, and with the controversy surrouding thier owner looking like affecting their preparations, Villa will be ready to take advantage of this. Carew and Agbonlahor should cause the City defence plenty of problems while City have little up fornt to casue the Villa defence much concern

Man Utd - Newcastle under 2.5
Man Utd kick off their defence of the title missing the player who was the main reason for their success. It will be interesting to see how United respond wihtout Ronaldo, and while Rooney will partner Tevez up front, they will be missing their main supplier. The Man Utd defence will be rock solid and shouldn't have too many problems especially as Newcastle don't have Owen or Viduka up front to trouble them. Newcastle will come to Old Trafford to close down the spaces for Man Utd, who will then becoome frustrated as will their crowd. Can't see them getting a big victory but more like a narrow one

Man Utd v Newcastle LAY OVER 3.5 GOALS @ 3.45 Betfair. Really can't see this being a goal-fest. No Ronaldo and with Rooney not 100%, I can't see Man Utd destroying us as they have done a few times. They look solid at the back again, and with Newcastle missing Owen then I can't see us scoring. We should play attacking football under Keegan this season, but today I think this will be a tight one as we really don't want to be hammered first match. 1-0 or 2-0 to Man Utd.

Chelsea v Portsmouth UNDER 2.5 GOALS @ 1.99 Betfair. Another game I can't really see being very open. Portsmouth have a good strike force with Defoe and Crouch and should be looking to play some good football, but Harry knows these games need to be tight to get a result and Portsmouth are very solid at the back. I'm not really sure how Chelsea will play under Scolari, but I think it could take them a little while to start playing good football, and they'll have to grind out a few results first.

Aston Villa - Manchester City,

i have a few picks for this game,

Aston Villa (-1) @ 23/10 with Bet365,

and my main bet is just a straight Villa win @ 7/10,

City are in a mess at the moment, and are missing Dunne at Centre Back (sent off in their last game of the previous season),
and Jo is at the Olympics, and Darius Vassell is injured,

and on the other hand Villa have welcomed 7 new players, and have really locked up the back line with the capture of Friedel, Shorey and Luke Young,

and Laursen is set to start with Cuellar,

and with the likes of Ashley Young (second highest assists last season ) flying them in from either side,

and we have the likes of John Carew to see them home,

and i think City are in trouble, their Chairman has a arrest warrant on him,
and this can not help the club,

and also they lost 1-0 at home in the Uefa Cup 2nd round,

and Villa had a nice 4-1 away victory,

hope that helps...

2 for me today.

6pts A.Villa to beat Man City 1.72 Bet365

My biggest bet of the season so far across the 4 divisions. Things are looking a bit awry at City at the minute and Mark Hughes may just have realised that the task in hand is tougher than he thought. No such problems at Villa though. They continue to go from strength to strength it seems and even this Gareth Barry saga doesn't appear to have upset them too much.

Villa will give a debut to Luke Young this afternoon but will have to wait to give Carlos Cuellar his debut so Curtis Davies is likely to start. Steve Sidwell and Brad Friedel are likely to make their debuts. City will be without their captain Richard Dunne who is suspended. Darius Vassell and Benjani are both injured and Jo is in Beijing so City could be a bit light up front. City looked really flat on Thursday night and assuming the travelling on Thursday hasn't taken it out of Villa I expect them to win this one fairly comfortably.

4pts Man Utd -1.5AH vs Newcastle 2.00 Bet1128

Man Utd might not have Ronaldo here but they will still have a strong side out. Rooney being fit is a big boost and he's likely to start up front with Carlos Tevez. Newcastle have plenty of injury problems. Owen, Viduka, Ameobi and Joey Barton all miss this match for various reasons. New signing Fabricio Coloccini is in the Newcastle squad. Newcastle's defensive frailties won't disappear overnight though and Man Utd have taken advantage of that more than most down the years. Newcastle don't like going to Old Trafford and I think the champions will open up with a comfortable win today.

ReasoningAll things are going off at Manchester city of the pitch and I don't think they will be fully focused on this game. Its been reported that new manager Hughes is ready to quit City.

Villa has strengthened at the back over the last week, Signing, Shorey, Luke Young and former Rangers defender Carlos Cuellar for 8m on Monday. They managed 9 clean sheets last season but should get a few more than that with these signings. No problems scoring and have a good front line.

I have taken Villa to get off to winning ways on what looks a promising season for them

ReasoningBoth teams will struggle this season, Bolton I can see just staying up but imo Stoke has no hope of staying in the Premiership.

Bolton will need to win games at home to sides like this, This is where they will pick up there points this season. Obviously Stoke will be right up for this seeing as its there first game in the Premiership but I expect Bolton to take all three points here.

ReasoningSunderland entertain Liverpool at the Stadium of light today and I think Keane's side could well cause an upset. Liverpool didn't look the side they should be during the week in there champions league qualifier, They will be relieved to come away with the 0-0.

Sunderland under Keane are a good side, Managed to keep them up last season when in previous seasons in the premiership they have been terrible. Keane has made some good signings this summer, Chimbonda, Tainio, Diouf & Malbranque all have premiership experience. They will add

On Liverpool's performence during the week I don't see how they can be backed here at the price and are well worth a lay.

3 out of 4 for the new season, Glad the premiership is back. Liverpool were a tad lucky to come away with the 3 points so positives to take out of that lay. Not the way I thought the United game would go but hey a winners a winner even if I am a bit gutted about the result!

some nice work their Spooner, bet you were slightly concerned at 1-1 in the Man Yoo game on Under 2.5 goals, shot out to 9.2 on BF straight after Fletcher scored aswell.
