I have taken a point on Great Wakering to beat Aveley in Ryman 1 North on Thursday night. Since the money ran out in the new year for Aveley and they lost a few players (including a couple to the Abbey ) they have hardly picked up a point. Early season thoughts of promotion have disappeared with a run of 3 draws and 7 defeats in the 10 games since Feb 3rd. Thankfully for them it is that early season form that keeps them safely in mid table. Their odds are generally artificially high for any given game imo, reflecting the league position rather than the reality, and this has made opposing them a good option recently and remains the case here. Whilst GW are not the strongest of teams they have built some momentum recently compiling 5 wins from 7 games albeit against some of the sections' weaker sides. Still, momentum is momentum and having spoken to one of the abbey lads over the weekend I'm told that GW are up for achieving thier highest ever step 4 league position of 13th and that's good enough motivation for me to back them.

Good result for Braintree tonight - a team you'll remember that have done very nicely for us until the poor showing at Fisher. I'm putting 2pts in their direction at the weekend - 11/8 with Stan James and Bet365. They travel to Yeading, whose only win in 11 was at Bedford. They're a free-thinking side, often let down by basic errors at the back. I think that Braintree, with plenty to play for, are not a palatable side for them to be playing at the moment - well drilled and disciplined. It's a long time since Yeading managed a clean sheet. This may not be Braintree's year, but they are young enough to come through stronger next season, though there will inevitably departures to teams higher up the food chain.

I have a fraught few days at work, so I have to make the most of what's available tonight (Skybet and Bet365). Here goes: 2pts Corby Town at home to Cirencester Town 11/10 Skybet 2pts Prescot Cables at home to Matlock Town 15/8 Skybet 2pts Lincoln United at Ashton United 13/8 Skybet 1pt Ramsgate at home to Horsham 10/11 Skybet 1pt Walton & Hersham at home to Tonbridge Angels 15/8 Skybet Be very interested to hear what Piranha thinks about Cheshunt's chances on Saturday - 15/8 at home to Halesowen with Skybet.

Im interested to know what you think Bedfords chances are at Bishops Stortford on Saturday Shipsupstreets, with the pressure off now our fate has been sealed, the lads won against Weston Super Mare, although another poor team, we have beaten Bishops at home this season, (before we became crap!) just want your opinion about teams chances with the pressure being off. Nows probably a good time to stop betting on Dagenham for example because now they have been promoted theyve stepped foot off the gas and lost twice.

It's a very chunky price, Eagle Boy, and it may well have legs. You're right to say that a team's psychology is often altered at this time of year. I think it's fair to say that Bishop's are struggling to deal with the pressure at the moment. Dagenham, I'm guessing, had a cracking night out last Saturday! It's not one for me, but if you feel even slightly confident about Bedford's chances - and you'll know their line up, personnel and potential better than anyone on here - then have a late-season dabble.

A couple stand out for the in th Southern Prem: Yate look very good value at 2.87 away at a listless Hitchin who are really struggling for goals at home and away. Although Yate have gone off the boil a bit since I saw them win impressively from 2 down at Cheshunt recently, I think they have enough guile up front to get past Hitchin, especially if Reid finds his range. A little speculative I guess with nothing much on it for either side but a good price nontheless. Northwood to beat Clevedon. Again I will talk up Northwood as their young side is showing spirit, fight and a desire to stay up. Clevedon are showing just the opposite and have not won in 8 games to put themselves in amongst the relegation battlers. Clevedon also face a tough trip to Hemel tonight (their 7th game in 19 days, saturday makes 8 in 20!) and if that proves fruitless, as I expect it will, then they really are on the edge. A six pointer that could go either way but I will take Northwood at 2.25 against their jaded visitors. Cheshunt at home to Halesowen. I will not back Cheshunt at the moment but 2.87 is very tempting as it is far too big imo. I don't want to get too carried away by Mondays' win over Hemel as the visitors did get through the amber defence but had a real off day in terms of onion bag location. But Chessy got stuck in really fought for a much needed win. Another 3 points here and then repairing the damage of Saturdays' reverse at Corby back at Theobalds on Tuesday will see Chessy home and dry. A couple of weeks ago the Yeltz beat Chessy 1-0 in what is being talked about as Chessys' best performance of the season and was, by all accounts, a very unfair result for the ambers. Martin O'Connors' promo chasers will not lay down for us and I would expect a very physical game with the contribution of Obeng and Allen in midfield being key to any Chessy success. If they battle hard, win the ball and get it to Cox and Opara then I see no reason why they can't prevail against a side that has looked nervous and unconvincing in the last couple of weeks. I would say this game is a lot closer than the odds suggest and I have Chessy down as narrow favourites. If it wasn't Chessy then I would be on at that price, but no bet for me again. MDP - would be interested to hear your thoughts on Tivvy for the weekend with 2 tough away games in 2 days, both at decent prices. With safety assured and games coming thick and fast does this look like a blank weekend or do you think your recent form will hold? Hopefully your boys will be knackered by the time Chessy come to visit on the 26th!

| The far East of the country is not generally a happy hunting ground for Tivvy, Kings Lynn itself is a 500 mile round trip, which is quite a joke considering the crowds are usually in the low hundreds in this section. There is no doubting Tivvys recent form Yesterday saw a comfortable 1.0 win at Yate, which followed a 2.0 win at Clevedon on Monday and a 3.1 win at home to Cirencester last Saturday. However, all 3 teams they played were quite simply dreadful and there is no doubt that both Lynn and Stamford will provide much tougher opposition. Chris Holloway leaving the club has been the catalyst for change, the team are obviously much much happier and I cannot help feling sorry for our friends in Merythr. This weekend Nathan Rudge misses both matches through his 3 match suspension following the head butt of Kings Lynn captain. Lynn lost their head completely at Tivvy and there is history at this match, including a bit of crowd trouble last time we played up there. I would be looking at 2.8 to 3 to back Tivvy Incidentally this run of form is not sustainable, as mentioned previously 5 of the current squad are loaned from Exeter, Plymouth and Yeovil. mdp

It was not pretty at church road ships but the county done a very professional job on the misioners. They took the lead after 20 mins and that was bascially that, despite plenty of effort form the hayes boys.In the second half jacob giles did not really have a serious save to make,so well marshalled by his defence, was he! It was like watching a george borg side.It looks like peter beadle has really got the team nice and solid for the run -in,and playing as one unit.I do not see why they cannot beat a very good salisbury side this weekend in gwent. The county's home form is superb this season and they may as well have a go for it now. They have nothing to lose, and a win here and one on monday at thurrcok and the boys in amber are right back in the race.So at 11/8,with bet 365 and stan james,i will be having a dabble.

I think that's a good shout, Ivor. A number of teams in the play-off zone are looking eminently opposible at the moment, which will fire up anyone just outside. Now that BlueSQ are sponsoring the Conference Nat, North and South I hope they return to offering odds on the Step 2s - they pulled the plug the season before last. They do have prices for the Blue Square Premier next season - that's the Conference to you and me. Wrexham at 18/1 anyone? Apologies to all, but I'm an irregular visitor at the moment. I see there has been some tightening of the prices on Braintree and Corby, which I posted here last night. Corby at Evs still looks a bit of value at Coral. Braintree at 11/10 with the same firm is the best price.

I like the Braintree one and managed to get on before prices shortened. The 2 others that sprung to my attention were Chelmsford at home to Margate and Morecambe away at Weymouth. Chelmsford at 4/5 with Bet 365 are too big considering their home record, and Margate are struggling away from home. I expected Morecambe to be odds on given their current form so 11/10 is good value. Altough their away form is not as good as before Xmas they are scoring goals for fun and should be too much for Weymouth who have conceeded 16 goals in 4 games.
