| It'll be interesting to see how Grays get on tonight, not least because they are a 11/10 to beat Woking on Wednesday. Marvyn Morgan's great strike was enough to get a point against Rushden, and they performed with undoubted guts, but they were largely second best. I think if Grays put in a decent 90 minutes tonight, I'll have another look at that price. |

| Grays did enough tonight to tempt me into taking the 11/10 against Woking on Wednesday night for a point with Stan James. Hopefully Dennis Oli will be back, and the likes of O'Connor, Kedwell and Hearn should get more chance to express themselves. |

| A couple of spread punts for me tonight. Firstly, a sell of the time of the first Droylsden goal at Northwich tonight, set at 56 with Sporting Index. Given the Vics limp performance at Ebbsfleet last Saturday, I think they'll come out with an attacking attitude (although Kevin Townson is suspended and Lee Steele not yet fit), which should make for an open game. Droylsden's best asset is their strength going forward and if the match is open I think they have a decent chance of scoring earlier than the spread. I've also bought the time of the last match goal in the Halifax/Alty game at 64 with Sporting Index. The widespread agreement is that Exeter were able to take Altrincham apart late on at the weekend because of the part-timers lack of fitness. Assuming Halifax have some stamina in the tank, they have a speculative opportunity of notching a late goal. Small stake for this one: the downside is not very attractive. (I toyed with the idea of a total goal minutes play, but as a buy at 135 the make-up for this market can be punishing if it goes against you. I know. I've been there!) Very tempted by a buy of total goals in the Burton/York game at 2.4 with Spreadex. Both sides have questions marks over their defences and a make-up of 3, 4, or 5 is a possibility. Will mull this one over during a particularly dull meeting this afternoon. I looked at selling total goals in the Salisbury/Ebbsfleet game, but I'm put off by the damage done to Ebbsfleet's defence by that win against Northwich. |

| For me, Gitarra, it's a very evenly matched game, although like you I'd make the Harriers favourites: they have the better forward line and have are a settled squad. Stafford have seen a lot of players come in recently, and they may be a good side waiting to get out, but it might be a while before they gel. They missed two penalties at Farsley, and they created chances there too, but they did allow the home side plenty of space: if the Harriers are not as wasteful as they were against Aldershot they should do fine. On balance, I'd side with Kidderminster, and sound arguments can be made for the 13/8 with Skybet. |

| Eng Conference Soccer - Burton/York - total Over 2½ (+116) for the regulation time held on Aug 14 at 1:45pm [pending] "Can't believe this line" is what I always say in this situation, only to find out why later. Well, I can't believe this line. Burton Albion ended last season with five of six overs, York was mixed in that department but in the right matchups would go toe to toe with most teams (if it wasn't 1-0 it was 3-2). As for this seasn, this is game 2. In the first game, Burton went to Histon, a promoter from the lower leagues, and played a 2-2 draw. York hosted Cambridge and lost 1-2. H2H last year, these two played 1-2 at Burton, and 3-2 at York. If there's a reason why this one is set at plus money for the overs, I don't see it.

Just a note. They only missed one penalty on Saturday the websites were wrong. The penalty was taken by Macca the centreback. He might have the hardest shot but not the most accurate. The fans were surprised he took the peno TBH. The Stafford side is full of new faces but they have had a good pre season. Time will tell on where the season is going for them but I am confident of a result tonight.

| Gitarra - I don't think Stevenage are great value at the prices offered. They should be biggish favourites, but Histon will be committed, dogged and frustrating. Staffy - The Non-league Today report says two pens, but the Non-league Paper says one! Should be a decent match tonight, now that both teams have a bit to prove. |

| I think your buy of the time of the last goal at Halifax looks very sound, Ships. I couldn't believe the downbeat comments (reported in The Non-League Paper) of Altrincham's manager, Graham Heathcote, after their defeat by Exeter on Saturday. I'm playing safer by simply backing a home win at 10/11 with Betfred. Halifax always tough at home and can see them opening their account for the season. Also gone for a double with Rushden (v Farsley) and Exeter (v Crawley) that pays almost 2/1 at Stan James. |

| I strongly believe that Exeter City v Crawley Town has many chances for a good over. Their first games were over and their history results aren't bad. Their latest news cannot let me down either..So i am on over!! GL.. |

| Very good work from everyone on this thread! Allthethings - the PL overs king - did the business with Burton/York. And yes, total goals was a tempting buy in that one! A very nice double for Labrador, too. I hope Gitarra took Kidderminster and wasn't put off by my analysis of the Stevenage/Histon game. A decent night on the spreads for me. A sell of the time of Droylsden's 1st goal was my main bet, and that landed very handsomely, as they scored on 22, though some of that was taken off with a loss on the trade of the last goal in the Halifax game. Glad I talked myself out of selling total goals on Salisbury/Ebbsfleet. And then there's Grays at home to Woking tomorrow night. That still looks pretty decent at 11/10. |

Was defo only one mate. Unless I missed it. Very good game tonight. 1st half both teams played some fantastic football. Grayson had 4 chances 1st half. Shame they didnt drop to mcniven he might have scores. 1 v 1 at HT a fair reflection. Stafford played some of their best football I have seen for a long team. If they play like this then they will survive. Second Half Kiddy were far superior mainly due to fitness. Robbo made late subs but it was far too late. Kiddy will finish top 6 or 7 I would have thought. Stafford hopefully top of the bottom half. Once Stafford fitness levels increase hopefully we will start winning. It would appear that due to lots of trialists in pre season most players only played one or two games. Although Stafford lost very promising for me.

| Not a surprise about the reports, Staffy - the papers couldn't agree whether Leigh beat Hinckley or drew with them! Agree with you about Stafford Rangers, too, though it might be a bumpy first month. |

| Well that was one hell of a game...not too many teams down 1-3 and a man down on the field can score 3 goals in 10 minutes for the win. By the way, does the York coach still have his job?

| I think tonight's Grays/Woking fixture is priced up on - not suprisingly, perhaps - on last season's league positions. Grays have changed personnel quite a bit, and the early signs at Torquay were that they look a lively and capable outfit, definitely more organised than last season. Central defence is very solid - Jamie Stuart and Jon Ashton will kick lumps out of the opposition all afternoon. Left back was a problem on Sunday, with midfielder Ernie Cooksey filling the gap, but he did okay. Stuart Thurgood needs a few games under his belt, but with Charley Hearn in midfield they have a useful contrast. They've options wide, too, with Dennis Oli or Karl Murray on the right and Mark Marshall or James Lawson on the left. Up front, Danny Kedwell and Aaron O'Connor - a player that Punter's Lounge mentioned quite a bit in last season's Step 4 threads in his time at Gresley - has made the step up well. Woking, equally, have a new set of players under Frank Gray. Yes, they've youthful talent in abundance, but at the moment that's all they have. Apart, that is, from the talents of Marvyn Morgan up front, who is always capable of scoring in those games when you are being outplayed. One danger tonight is that Woking - as at home to R&D - will play on the counter, looking to exploit their pace up front, and Grays may be found wanting. But they'll have plenty going forward themselves - though I'm keeping the stake to a point, the 11/10, at BetFred, BetDirect and Stan James, on balance looks decent enough. |

it will probably be a bumpy ride throughout the season. I think we should be favorites to go down. If we finish 5th bottom again ill be happy. 6th bottom and its an improvement.

| Disappointing result at Grays, but still a decent week for me. Just back from Aldershot/Torquay, and what a performance from the visitors. They were faster and stronger in every department, and it was a complete contrast to the first nervous, then frantic show they put on against Grays. Rhys Day had a bit of a mare against Tim Sills, who was finding space at will and it was no surprise when they took an early lead with Stills' shot was defelected in. Aldershot, to be fair, put up a decent show, but were never convincing. Their best chance was when Grant was one-on-one with the keeper, but Rayner blocked. Other than that, it was snap shots when better balls were available. There was a lot of running into cul-de-sacs. Torquay, in contrast, were remarkably unselfish - it was a great team effort so early in the season. Tony Bedeau limped off and his replacement Danny Stevens - a five-foot-one cult hero in the making - found himself some space and curled a shot in on half time. There was no second half onslaught from Aldershot, and once Chris Zebrowski headed in for the third it was game over. There were scares at both ends after that, but Torquay looked thoroughly relaxed in the torrential rain. There were some decent performances for the Shots. I thought Anthony Charles did well at centre back and he largely won his battle with Lee Phillips, at least in the first half, but on the whole they looked very inexperienced - they are missing injured Ricky Newman and Ryan Williams badly. All the Torquay goals came from basic errors - a misplaced pass from Scott Davies for the Sills opener, a failure to close down the tricky Stevens for the second, and a weakness in defence when facing the on-rushing heads at a corner for their third. In spells, they were lively - Davies contributed some silky runs, and Lewis Chalmers did his combative best in midfield - and I don't think they really played as badly as the score suggests. But in key areas around the box they were found wanting over and over again. Torquay are a youngish side themselves, and even 'newer' than Aldershot, but they are the team who looked clever and more streetwise. They may struggle against very tight defensive units at home, but away from home they look a decent play for punters if they stay in this nick. |
