I wondered how long that 12/1 would last about Rotherham. Answer not very long . It's pretty fair to say they'd have won this league last year but for their points deduction and they should go close this season, unless money troubles step in.

Agreed....although the renewal of Drewe Broughton's contract might imply there are problems!

Drew Broughton is a very consistant player in my eyes; in that he's managed to be cak everywhere he's played. However, he did play very well against Chester last year when Rotherham slaughtered us so Mark Robins might just be able to get something out of him that other managers can't. Rotherham have also signed Kevin "The Liability" Ellison from Chester who is normally good for a couple of sending offs per season. Having said that, he's not afraid to put it about in this league and will probably be a good addition to the Millars who do appear to be putting a strong squad together.......

My other early selection is the 10/1 at Bet £3.65 on Grimsby Town to gain promotion. Its not unheard of in the lower leagues for teams to show a big improvement from the previous year and I think the addition of Barry Conlon towards the end of last season may be the catalyst for Mike Newell to get his team into a play-off spot.

Lunchtime news on the radio is that a consortium from the middle east are interested in buying Notts County, and the chairman has put together a proposal to the shareholders.

In this goddawful league, with a bit of investment, they be worth a little bet at 5/1 for promotion with Corals.

Rotherham will do better i agree under an excellent manager, but they may do a Leeds as they don't have a siege mentality like last season. Think they will be there or therabouts. Bradfords wage bill is being chopped, wouldn't touch us with a bargepole for the title, promotion via 7th may be the best we can hope for this season. Shrewsbury need to work on their terrible away record.

So all in all, the league looks pretty open at the minute and with a few good signings Notts County may have a chance of promotion.

Notts County continue to shorten and all the money has been for them this afternoon in wake of the recent news. They're now into a best priced 18/1 (Tote) for the title, generally avail at 16's, and are a best priced with Sky for promotion after Coral slashed their odds from 5/1 to 3/1. Its a bit of a shame there is no promotion market on Betfair as this would have been an easy arb.

I'm waiting to see what happens with Bournemouth, if they don't get wound up or get points deducted etc they will have a good chance, impressed me both home and away. Also watching to see if Pitman stays there, he was quality at their place and finished on about 18 goals despite them being near the bottom of the table all season, might have a bet on him being top scorer.

A very open league next season and I feel Bury will do well again. if it wasn't for the efforts of the opposition keeper in the play offs they could have gone to Wembley. Bishop has proven consistent each year and a few additions to their squad could see them mount a real serious challenge.

Baker has accepted a bid from an unnamed bidder who wants to remain anonymous . Been there, done that. Any Bournemouth fans who think that sounds good, think again .

As long as you didn't look at Hills prices when making your decision on Bury, opened at 8/1, still only 9/1. Ridiculously short price, but 14's is fair. Before any of the odds came out, the only two teams that i really feared were Rotherham and Northampton. The early value on Rotherham has gone but can still get 11's on Northampton. I was very surprised that they came down last year.

You can still get 33.1 on Notts county at Ladbrokes but you have got to go in the shop.Plus they have a limit of £50 anymore they give you the internet price of 14.1!

Payney , just go to a few different shops then mate

I like Rotherham aswell, done well to finish as highly as they did after the points deduction. Northampton should also be feared as they have some decent players but Bury must be respected. God only knows howthey didn't get past Shrewsbury in those play offs and in my opinion they would have beaten Gillingham in the final. Have a prolific frontline and a shrewd manager , if they keep the same squad as last year they will be dangerous.

Bury have signed Ryan Lowe from Chester on a two year deal to improve that front line after releasing striker Glyn Hurst. I've decided to have my first bet on this league on Bury at 14/1 each way. The main core of the team has remained with a few of the weaker players released. In the local papers Alan Knill has suggested that he is only looking to bring in about four or five players, but states he wants quality rather than quantity. Ryan Lowe is a good start to what he stated.

Correct. There is always talk of a side who sign 8/9 players and everyone seems to fancy them but it never works so I like what Knill said. 4 or 5 players could work and Lowe is a very capable player at this level . I am having a bit E/W on Bury and i'll possibly back Rotherham aswell as I fancy them to be strong.

The Lowe signing is a cracker, will be getting on Bury at 14's outright and will go ew on that one along with Rotherham. They have just signed Nicky Law from Sheff Utd, we had him on loan for the season and he is different class, only small but great with the ball at his feet, has a good shot on him and we are gutted at Bradford that we didn't sign him. He will be a key player for Rotherham next season.

I'm in agreement with the general concensus that Ryan Lowe is a very good signing for a Bury side that should be able to make the play-offs again. He was Chester's player of the season last year and is definately a quality buy. I believe that he had several other offers on the table but I think that he has a young family so has probably gone for the local option so as not to disrupt them.

Just one observation. Be careful with the goalscorer market as Lowe isn't an out and out goal scorer and is better suited to playing behind a front two. He only scored alot for Chester last year as we had no other striker and as such he had to play up font all the time.

i only risked £10 e.way at 33.1.they would still have to get a new team together at short notice!its now been cut to £25 in shops but still taking bets!

I like the look of Bradford City. They were challenging up until the final quarter of last season when they fell away completely and even missed the playoffs.

However, the fans seem to still be right behind Stuart McColl which always helps if the Management team is settled.

Bradford should be eager to make up for last years disapointment.

Thoughts?

I've had £5 E/W on Burton Albion @ 40/1 as a bit of a flutter.

As Exeter proved this year, teams coming up from the BSP can do well enough in League 2 if they are good enough, and I think Paul Pechisolido will be a good solid lower league manager.

Worth a punt anyway imo.
