2008-07-27 Croatia Sesvete - Osijek

I'm not quite sure why is Croatia Sesvete a slight favorite here. They were promoted from 2nd league where they justified a label of 'favorites to enter the first league' others gave them to. Croatia S. has a mix of quality (but old) players who played in first league (some of them for big clubs) and not very well known 2nd league players and their main aim is to hold on in the first league ofcourse. Ambitious club who is being led by good coach, Ljupko Petrovic (Winner of the European Cup in 1991 with Red Star Belgrade) but we have yet to see what will he make out of this team. They are facing Osijek who is wealthier for one year of expirience. Why? Because young players gained that expirience, older players are still here...basically they haven't changed at all from last season and I think they could be bigger threat to others compared to last season. Match is being played in Velika which is halfway between Zagreb and Osijek due to problems with obtaining the licence for their ground. Having in mind that Croatia is from Sesvete, town next to Zagreb so home advantage does not exist in this case. Away win, low to medium stakes. After all, it's the begining of the season so no need to rush in with bigger stakes.

Looking at first glance I like the look of HNK Cibalia at 6/4. Generally were good at home and Slavens weren't the real deal away last term. Add to that Slavens busy schedule with the UEFA Cup only days apart from this league game. I will take Cibalia at 6/4 with willhill.
