Arrow European and Worldwide Football Competition (VI) Information Thread and Rules

Introduction and history
Around January - March 2006, we piloted the first ever European & Worldwide football competition. This was run from within the European forum itself and proved to be a great success. The eventual winner was Psilocybin, with Archaeus finishing as runner up. It was always said that something would be set up for this season as well, and this is it located now within it’s own forum.
The competitions success was enough so see if back on a permanent basis and Archeaus won the 2nd one with Johnben finishing runner up. In the 3rd competition Cloud claimed success with Kevshat runner up. Christo85efc won EWC (IV) and came very close to defending his crown in (V) but was eventually beaten in the final by Jockprop.

The Participants
All those who finished in the top 16 of the last competition will always be welcomed back into the next one. It is up to that person if he choses to accept of reject the invitation. 16 other playes will always be available for new people, and those positions will be decided by qualifying rounds. Eventually we will have 8 groups of 4 players in them ready to participate in the group stage part. This competition will follow in exactly the same way as the UEFA Champions League in that there will be 2 legged 2nd rounds, Qfs, Sfs and Final.

Default Re: European and Worldwide Football Competition (II) Information Thread and Rules

Points System

Each match day, every tipster will have 3 picks (listed from the markets below) on any European, Worldwide or international match with the exception of UK leagues (Republic of Ireland allowed) Each tipster must research the odds from the bookmaker that sponsors the competition (betfair) www.betfair.com. At the end of each match day, each tipster will have obtained a total tally of points. The number of points they will obtain would depend on how successful their selections are, and what odds they were at.

For this competition, selections at odds of less than 1.50 will not be acceptable.

For winning selections at odds 1.50 - 1.99 then 1 point would be obtained

For winning selections at odds 2.0 - 2.74 then 2 points would be obtained

For winning selections at odds of 2.75 or greater than 3 points would be obtained

Home advantage

A new rule will be brought into the group stages of Euro & WW competition (VI) where tipsters have home advantage. In the group stage ,everyone will play each other twice - at home and away. If you are at home then you will start with an automatic 1 point head start against your opponent.

So each match day, the maximum number of points capable of being obtained would be 10 if you were at home, and 9 if you were away. The one exception to this rule is in extreme circumstances. If both tipsters in a match produced 3 winning 3 point selections, then the match wouldn’t end 10-9, but would end 10-10. This rule guarantees than anyone who does score the maximum points in a match, would definitely never lose. However it is very unlikely that this rule would ever come into effect, although you never know!

Basically considering home advantage whoever gains the most points in a match out of the two tipsters would win the tie. If the scores end level, then the tie ends a draw.

For group stage - 3 points will be awarded for a win and 1 for a draw. 0 for a loss

For the preliminary qualifying round (1 leg) whoever outscores the other will progress - if scores are level then a tie break used

For the Final Qualifying round, and later stage knockout rounds, then there will be an aggregate of over 2 legs which will determine who will progress. If scores are still tied after the 2 legs, then a tie break will be used

The markets available to chose from will once again be the same. As before, everyone must obtain prices from the bookmaker that sponsors the competition. (betfair)

Having betfair as a sponsor enables us to offer a much wider arrange of markets. Basically you may chose from any market they offer as long as it isn't

Asian Handicap

Also Lays are NOT to be used in this competition. That might come in the future but not this one.

There must be at least £10 available to back @ the odds you chose (at the time of posting)

Basically, if betfair offer the market then you are able to chose it. The only one we cant use for this competition is Asian Handicap really.

Postponements

There isa ‘postponement’ scheme where it can be prearranged to cancel a game to another date, if someone knows they will be away or on holiday etc.

Postponements will not come into play for any of the qualifying rounds, if you fail to post, then you would no score for whatever round you were in. However, once the group stage gets underway, then people may apply for postponements for whatever reason.

A thread will be set up ready to deal with postponements. When the draw for the group stage is made, then a complete fixture list will be brought out. Everyone will know the exact dates of when they are playing (basically every weekend for 6 consecutive weeks). You may request a postponement for a match 5 weekend in advance if you want, that’s not a problem.

On a more short term scale, the deadline to request a postponement before a weekend matchday is Thursday morning at 1AM BST. If you submit it before then, then there is no problem and your opponent will be notified as soon as possible.

For the knockout rounds, it is a little more complicated as we are unaware of the exact dates yet. However, there is ample time available and rescheduling wont be a problem.

Qualification from the group stage

If you finish within the top 2 positions of your group then you will qualify for the round of 16. If you finish as a group winner, then you will definitely not face a fellow group winner in the last 16 round. If one or more tipsters are tied for any group position, then the placing will be decided by these variants in the following order.

1) Goal difference
2) Goals scored
3) H2H record
4) Play off match

UEFA League

It will contain all of those who finished 3rd in their respective groups of the main European & Worldwide Competition.

Everyone will play each other once. The winner of the 'UEFA League' will receive a £10 betfair free bet and also gain direct automatic entry into the next European & Worldwide Competition group stages.

Those ending up 2nd, 3rd ,4th and 5th in the table will participate in the 'play offs'

The winner of the play offs will receive no prize, but will gain direct automatic entry into the next European & Worldwide Competition group stages.

Continuation

Plans are made for this competition to continue throughout the whole year. Basically, we will have 2 of these competitions each season. The first will be form the months August -December and the second from late January - May. If you qualify from your group in this competition then you will automatically be invited back into the group stages of the next competition. If you make it to the quarter finals or better, then you will be a top seed for the next event. All those that fail to qualify from their groups, will have to make it through qualifying rounds should they wish to participate in the next one. This means that there will always be 16 places available and new people would have the chance to qualify.
