After somewhat upsetting the apple cart I changed my post.

But I do see huge double standards from our green and white friends here... Its fine to label myself and other fascists, but when a joke is made then they get on their high horse...

And as for Martin - I don't think so buddy.

In the 60s and 70s there was what appears to be rampant sexual abuse comitted by coaching staff at the Celtic boys club, against teenage boys.

The allegation is that former Celtic and Scotland manager Jock Stein, was aware of this and did nothing and protected the guilty from the police. Making him an accessory after the fact, and morally guilty.

Alex made a joke on this subject and linked it to the Shannon Mathews case, he accepts this was in poor taste and removed it. This was the comment that provoked the outbursts.

Jock Stein is the greatest ever Celtic manager and is revered by the fans, jokes on this subject appear to send Celtic fans crazy, it's the nuclear option.

To be honest, this kind of thing makes me think the idea of a Old Firm thread was a bad one

Maybe its a good idea just to try and keep this thread about football - after all, thats what we are all here for....

I am not going to bother posting in here any more mind, it just seems that people are on the wind up deliberatly....

shame that two of britains biggest football clubs with huge histories and some fantastic nights behind each of them has an element of kindergarten as vocal support.

perhaps i'm missing the point as an outsider, but you'd look much bigger standing proud together than throwing your toys out of the pram.

looking forward to this thread being built up by people who want to talk positiviely about their team rather than those with nothing more to their personality than hatred for others.

imo, whilst there has been a dominance of the old firm in scotland that some have felt has damaged scottish football, its interesting to see both rangers and celtic improve in europe over the last few years and also that they dont seem quite so untouchable on the domestic scene. Wasnt too long ago and teams like clyde and partick wouldnt have got the results they have in recent times. Would still like to see more rangers/celtic vs. eng prem games though.

Scottish football does appear to be on the up.

Also worth pointing out Alex was badly wound up over a period of months and was big enough to recongnise he made a mistake and withdraw it, unlike others who hidden behind pms and made crazy threats.

Takes a big man to stand up and do this, and Alex has gone way up in my estimation for the way he has handled this incident, and the procedding threads over the past couple of weeks.

Cheers AJ. As most of you know (ie those that have been members of the PL for a while), I am more than capable of praising Celtic for good performances etc. I am not one to go in for bigotry or anything like that, but in recent weeks some newer members have decided that they can post what they want and then get annoyed when they are given a taste of their own medicine.

I retracted the BJK 'joke', as it was in bad taste - but IMO, it is not half as bad as what has been directed towards myself and others over recent weeks.

Lets just calm this whole thing down and get on with supporting our respective teams and hopefully winning some cash along the way.

Thanks for the explanation. I didn't know the history behind it or why it wound people up so much. A mate of mine went to a Rangers V Celtic league game and said he had never experienced anything like it for tension and atmosphere.

I don't think child abuse is anything to joke about or use to score cheap points with rival fans. Child abuse is a cancer in our society, and probably every society.

Not just me.

Why does being referred to as something which means the enemy annoy you?

Ferguson was booked in both legs against Sporting, paranoia?

Not just me either
