lol, created a greater buzz for the fans?? You couldnt even sell out the stadium for the last european game at ibrox!! When you got knocked out on that infamous night against lyon did you honestly think you would make it this far??

We know we are nowhere near the level of some of these sides but if we get anything less than a win everyone connected with the club is disappointed. Rangers were happy with their point because of what happenned in Lyon.

I have nothing against the parachute to the Uefa cup, in fact some of our greatest eurpoean victories have came because of that (ko barca 1-0 in 04 I think) but I think we would both agree that we would rather qualify from the group stages of the cl than fall into the uefa cup?
I would honestly say that I would prefer earn the payday in the group stages and then drop down to a competition we have a chance of winning. I've always belived that and it has nothing to do with our run this year.

I much prefer winning games or at least having a chance of winning games as opposed to playing against a team of world class superstars. Lets face it: broadfoot vs messi? Theres only going to be one winner and he's not from paisley.

I'm only taking my opinion on listening to the crowd at ft in those games at Ibrox, trust me if you never managed to get a result in the away leg many questions would have bn asked of Smiths tactics at Ibrox.

I totally appreciate where you are coming from, like I said many of Celtics greatest European nights have came from the Uefa cup so I wont try and belittle it as a "diddy" competition. But as a club you want to see constant progression, and the only way you can truely do that is in the elite competition. I would say making it to the QF or SF of the champions league would be seen as a greater achievement than winning the Uefa cup. (and before you say anything, I was saying the same thing in 03)

Er, no it isn't.

Lets face it. Neither side of the Old Firm are EVER going to win the CL. How you progress more by getting pumped by the likes of Inter/Barca etc is beyond me.

Of course you progress more with a run in the UEFA.

That wasnt a dig because we've made it through the group stages the last 2 years. Its the way many people whom I've had this conversation with think about progression in Europe. And before you forget Celtic have won Europes premier competition, something which you have never done and you never will.

If you gave me the choice of progression into the QF of Champions legaue or SF of uefa cup, theres only ever going to be one winner. Champions league every time.

You lot are worse for that than the English are for mentioning the World cup.

Aye. I am sure you were saying that when you were in Lisbon along with however many millions you took...?

You are having a dig by admitting that Celtic are pish, just to belittle Rangers achievement - and dare I say it, PROGRESSION this season.

It is pathetic.

Yes, well done for winning the European Cup 40 years ago - when it was a TOTALLY different competition.

Nice one Bell. It was more than 20 years before you were born that you won it!!! And you still use it as ammo, brilliant!

I'm not belittling Rangers achievement, I'm trying to pont out that they are a poor side, and I cant for the life of me figure out why no-one here is willing to see that.

Its the greatest ever period of the team which I am proud to support, so of course I take great interest in its history. I have seen the tapes, listened to the stories and there is no doubt its not the fact we won it, its the way we won it which makes it so special to celtic fans.

I think we'll agree to disagree there. I still maintain you've had a fair bit of luck in europe this year, and that celtic have thrown this league away. I definitely stand by what i say about this being the worst side in history to win the treble, and I find it hard that others insist of argueing this point.

There are actually Celtic fans on here who admit that their team is 'pish', just to get a dig in at Rangers. That makes me laugh fcuking hard that does! Total sour grapes all round I would say.

As for Fiorentina's new supporters here - all I can say is, get a life. Much ad I hate to admit it, if Celtic were the only 'Scottish' team left in Europe, I would be siding for them - anyday. After all, the better Scottish teams do in Europe the better the co-efficient etc.

Total immaturity to be supporting the Italians IMO.

If Rangers were a Scottish club I'd support them in Europe
