Default What were the surprises of the season in your opinion.

3. Boro 8 - 1 Man. City My reaction was WTF.

2. Zenit 4 - 0 Bayern Munich I wouldn't say that the win itself was a surprise, but 4 goals with no answer from Germany's champions and Cup holders got me thinking about the quality of the german football. Some would say it was coming since Getafe deserved to go through but still, 4-0...

1. England 2 - 3 Croatia I felt like if there was a bet of the season then it would have been that England will at laest draw against Croatia at Wembley. I think it was the bookies' payday of the year. Personally, I had them under 5.5 when it was 2-2, so I can't complain but...I thought that although playing worse, the home support and ref would eventually settle the things according all logic. I was wrong though.

i have to say cardiff getting to the fa cup final - fantastic! kinda summed a complete WTF fa cup this term, with so many shocks, most notably barnsleys wins against liverpool and chelsea.

also fulhams escape to victory from the premier - amazing!

Just the FA cup final itself was a pretty big shock - 1000/1 I think the bookies had it at! Agree with Ali too, Fulham's survival was an immense achievement.

Was it Pompey 7-4 Reading? That was pretty mental too!

My idea was about single games but you are absolutely right. I remember reading that since Cardiff is a welsh team they wouldn't be allowed to play in UEFA if they won. Eventually, the Football Association did at least this right(on the backdround of the "Who will be the next manager?" farce and gave them exclusive right to get to play in UEFA if they were to become FA cup holders.

For me it was also Barnsley beating Chelsea. I made the mistake of watching this with a few of my mates who are Liverpool fans after giving them a load of crap about getting knocked out by Barnsley.
Also one of the first games of the season on tv was a suprise, spurs expected to be challenging by most against relegation fodder Sunderland.

The FA Cup in general.

Arsenals great start to the season.

Rangers run to the Uefa cup final.

Englands failures.

Jose leaving Chelsea

Newcastle appointing Keegan

For me the biggest single shock was Wigan staying up - At the start of the season I had a big bet on them going down. They survived and it did cost me. Throughout the season, the big one for me was Liverpool still having Benetiz (If I was him, Id have fcuked off as quick as possible) and for a single game, it had to be Derby v Newcastle 17th sept. I was gutted with that!!! 1-0 Derby BTW

For me it was Chelsea sacking Mourinho and replacing him with Grant....

I wouldn't say Mourinho's sacking was a surprise for me, there were many tentions between him and Roman(I think) but putting Grant on his place...My initial reaction: Who the fcuk is he?

How can people ignore Stoke?

Tremendous achievement for Pulis to manage this and I can honestly see Stoke go from strength to strength here. Pulis has the full backing of the chairman, and even if they do get relegated I doubt that we'll see Pulis leaving.

Well done you lardies.

1. Ince not getting manager of the year (Lg 2)
2. Man City doing the double over Utd
3. Keegan going back to Newcastle

For me Glasgows third team making it to the Uefa Cup final with the team and tactics they employed

Scotland beating the French in their own back yard what a result!

I went to Tottenham 6-4 Reading and was surprised as I thought they'd sit back and we'd struggle to break them down!

I was stunned by the scoreline too, there is another reason though why I found it annoying not to be there.

The weekend before Portsmouth v Reading, I was talking to a Pompey mate and suggesting that we go to see the game. I live on the Isle of Wight so Portsmouth are the most local Premiership side for me. As it turned out, as a Spurs fan my heart wasn't in it to try and get the tickets so I left it and missed out on an 11 goal cracker!!

Then for Spurs v Reading, mate wanted us to go see the game, this time a Spurs mate. At the time I was skint, with the game being played around Christmas time and said that I couldn't go. Anyhows, made a lot of talk about how the game would be boring, dour and low scoring... looks like I was wrong again!

As for other suprises well most of the above, excluding the Mourniho being sacked one. Martin Jol being sacked in the way that he was by Spurs, watching the game against Getafe and the news filtering around that Jol had been sacked and that the game would be his last in charge. Was a weird atmosphere that night!

Barnsley's fantastic cup run, beating Chelsea and Liverpool was some achievement, even if sadly they didn't have what it took to get to the Final.

Wigan snatching a point from Chelsea in the dying moments of the game with a goal scored by Heskey. That goal was arguably the goal that ultimately killed off Chelsea's title ambitions. If they had taken an extra couple of points in to the last day of the season then the result could have been totally different.

The favourite horse winning the Grand National! Makes a change that the favourite should take it, a year after SB (cant remember full name, just initials ) won it!!

Derby actually managing to get worse after they got relegated.

The old adage of they'll play better once the pressure is off....

Also, Hull, Bristol City and Stoke all finishing in the top 4 in the Championship, Cardiff to the Cup Final, and those magical cup wins by Barnsley.

Zenit winning the Uefa Cup

Rangers getting so far in Uefa Cup having scored so few goals

A Pompey v Cardiff FA Cup final

Fulham managing to stay up after looking doomed

Hull and Stoke being promoted to the prem

Avram Grant being sacked last week after nearly winning the double

The amount of injuries West Ham picked up and still managed to finish 10th
