Default Sven

Looks even more likely he's on his way out of City despite taking them to 10th............their highest position in many years.

It appears he's been forced out by yet another mega rich tycoon who decides to take over a football club as if its a toy. I wonder how many other Prem managers must fear the same fate.

Still at least he'll get a good payoff and probably plenty of offers from other sides

And yet again the fans get to suffer when the twat of an owner shows he hasn't a clue about how to run a football club. As I said in the other thread its a joke really.

It just goes to show the perils of selling your soul.

I wonder what the expectations at City were and what Sven's targets were?

We've seen the turmoil at Liverpool and it's credit to Benitez that he's done as well as he has.

Chelsea are basically insolvent and keep going on one man's whim. What happens if he gets bored of it?

Arsenal are fighting off the attempted takeover and credit to them for that. It will be interesting to see what the developments of Edelman saying he was leaving will be. He is bitterly opposed to a foreign takeover.

My club Tottenham appear to be being touted about to whoever shows interest.

The Glazer issue at Man U appears to have quitened down, but they're doing well.

It will be interesting to see where all this leaves the game in the next few years.

These people, with the possible exception of Abramovich aren't in it for the love of the game.

They've got no reason at all to sack him. City fans thought the league was on under sven, they'll think the treble is on under 'big phil' , and the next after him, then after him ........

So much for getting them to their highest position in years.

Still he'll come out a winner. A good payoff worth a few million to add to what he got when he was in charge of England and no doubt he'll walk into another management job.

The term laughing all the way to the bank springs to mind

Latest reports in Portugal are that he might be on his way back to coach Benfica !
Club president Luis F. Vieira and player Rui Costa (at the end of the season he'll take over as Director of Football Operations) flew to Manchester today in a private jet and met Sven.

Eriksson started his career with hometown Swedish Club Gotemborg where he won a UEFA Cup beating Hamburg (Germany)...huge upset at the time.

He then moved to Benfica the following season to leave a HUGE mark at the club and in Portuguese football at the time (early 80's).
He won two Portuguese Leagues (1982/83, 1983/84) and one Portuguese Cup (1982/83) and Benfica lost the UEFA Cup final to Belgium's Anderlecht (I was at the stadium ...) that season.

He moved to Italy to coach AS Roma and Fiorentina and later on returned to Benfica.
In his 2nd spell in Portugal, he won a SuperCup (1989) , a League (1990/91) and took the club to the Champions League (different nominations at the time) final where he lost 1-0 to AC Milan.

Most of the fans just love him at Benfica and I do hope he returns.

Surley an 8-1 defeat must confirm his departure. IMO its not his fault. I think the players want him to stay but due to his iminent departure the players vented their disgust by not trying

No, Sir Alex was refering to a London based team that plays in blue, apparently.....

Looking at the match report for the 8-1 game, seems clear that after the sending off, the City players realised that bookings could cost them a place in the Uefa cup next season, and decided to make no further tackles or challange for the ball.

It's totally risk adverse, but makes sense. Pisses all over the concept of competative football though. I don't like the idea of rewarding fair play teams, it's a results based business, sometimes a booking or a sending off is the correct thing for your team. I remeber Ole getting sent off at Newcastle years ago, saved a certain goal and was doubtless the correct move.

This really does sound insane - the story has been carried in today's papers over here. From the Telegraph:

Quote:
In another bizarre twist to the ongoing saga at Manchester City, owner Thaksin Shinawatra has indicated that he wants to start afresh next season by putting his entire squad up for sale.

Shinawatra is reportedly unhappy with the team's downward spiral in the second half of the season with young players such as Micah Richards, Michael Johnson and Joe Hart on the clear-out list.

Manager Sven-Goran Eriksson, whose job is on the line after one year in charge, and Shinawatra were pictured together at yesterday's launch of the club's 10-day tour of Thailand.
But Manchester City's owner is ready to further incur the wrath of the club's supporters who are firmly behind the Swede staying at the club.
The supporters are so incensed that many are believed to be withholding the renewal of season tickets until the manager situation is resolved.

According to the Express, Shinawatra has written a letter to every squad member outlining his intentions and there will be a host of clubs lining up to buy City's stars.
Johnson, 20, is attracting interest from Liverpool and Tottenham, while Manchester United are looking at Micah Richards in a possible £18m offer.
Richards signed a new four-year contract earlier this year with the view of securing a long-term futire at Eastlands.
Joe Hart and Richard Dunne have also been linked to Spurs.

Eriksson confirmed yesterday that he had been approached by the Mexican FA but it is unlikely he will take up the national job offer.

Well, Sven is not joining Benfica, that's for sure (Chelsea? Mexico National team?).
Benfica got tired of waiting and decided to hire Spanish Quique Flores (former Valencia coach) as a new head coach (he was presented today in a press conference).
