Default Panionios v Tblisi

Rumours were circulating yesterday that this game was going to be bent and the events of last night seem to add considerable weight to that theory.

Had Sky Sports News on this morning and they interviewed Bruce Millington who was on about the markets that had been heavily backed on Betfair:
Fulltime Result
Any Other (Correct Score)
Tblisi HT - Panionios FT

He was saying that the bookies smelled a rat and suspended early, but load sof money was matched on Betfair.

Its this last thing that strikes me as being funny - In order to get these massive sums matched on Betfair there need to be layers - so if a game is bent who are these people who will put up these bets.

Are they greedy people who can't resist laying 6/1 on Away - Home when they know it should be 28/1 - 33/1, hoping that the info is wrong.

I can't imagine that these people are laying off having backed at a bigger price.

Any thoughts?

Maybe the people who are laying actually now the people who are backing the bets? That way they may have organised a split of the profits, does that make any sense? Absolutly shocking that fix last night, how can this still be allowed to happen. Georgian teams = Dodgy.

I think it's a money laundering thing rather than attempting to make a profit, i.e the backers and the layers are the same people, so they put their money in one betfair account, lose it to themselves under another name and hey-presto it's clean. I might be wrong, but thats how i imagine it working.

Yeah, I heard that too a.f.u. From what I heard the game was 4-2 for a while, and they played until it was 5-2, ths making the 'correct score' bet come off? Who knows?

Rumours abound about Lazio tonight, I must say I have taken some of the 1.50 on offer at Hills. We shall soon see what happens...

11 minutes of injury time.. you can imagine the ref not wanting to blow - coz he knows he's for it if he does.

Bet the ref was tempted to welly it in himself... ha ha - wish id seen it

A bloke in London walked into Corals with a grand and he wanted first half Tblisi second half Panionios @28/1
but the bookies would only let him have £50

no i dont think it does Alex!
It's like me laying you a bet, one of us will win and the other will lose but between us we'll still have the same amount of money once the bet is settled (and minus comission to betfair in this case!).

The reason people lay is because they don't believe the theories of it being a fix and the low odds compared to the usual price on such an outcome makes it tempting to lay at this price.
Sometimes I lay the draw in Italian games that have ridiculously low odds on the draw just because I feel it's a value bet to do so.
