Manager Sanchez sacked by Fulham

Fulham have won just two games all season under Sanchez

Fulham have sacked manager Lawrie Sanchez with immediate effect.
The club are struggling in 18th place in the Premier League, having won just two games all season, their last win coming against Reading on 3 November.
"Losing Premiership status is a proposition that simply can not be contemplated," said a club statement.
The 48-year-old's departure comes just a day after former Fulham midfielder John Collins's sudden resignation as Hibernian manager.
The ex-Scotland midfielder's exit sparked a flurry of rumours that he may return to Craven Cottage.

Your thoughts on Sanchez's sacking

Fulham have announced first team coach Ray Lewington and reserve team manager Billy McKinlay will take charge of the team for Saturday's home game against Wigan.
"The club is confident that it will find the right replacement to increase its chances of remaining in the Premiership, which is of vital importance," said the statement. Sanchez becomes the seventh managerial casualty of the Premier League season. The former Northern Ireland boss had been under pressure following a run of four defeats in five games, which saw Fulham drop into the relegation zone. Sanchez had been given the job full-time in May having replaced Chris Coleman on a part-time basis last season.

Never liked the bloke and didn't buy well with £20 Million, and Fayed was never gonna keep backing him.Always seemed smarmy when interviewed and seemed to always blame the ref at every game.
Now we really do know why Collins left.

looks that way sharp, though I was just reading the bbc web report in work yesterday and if you click the related links the previous days hibs news is John Collins standing with the chairman full of enthusiasm opening the new multi-million training comlex hibs have just opened with a hearty quote regarding hibs future. Whatever his reasons for leaving it looked pretty knee-jerked, possibly over money for players in January.

Rubbish manager.

Fulham are always going to be crap if they keep on trading in one unproven manager for another.

Still, at least Sanchez has a good day job in telling women that they look good naked.

I wouldn't say he was a rubbish manager considering what he did with Northern Ireland. But I'd say he was suited to managing at small International sides where he has to get them all together battling for every single point.

It was clear to see from what he spent his £20m+ on that he didn't know how to buy a player. Could he have bought any more Northern Ireland players?

Collins (former Fulham player) must be a dead cert for this job imo. However surely something has to be done to stop managers just resigning from one club and signing for another a couple of days later. Players can't do it, so why should managers? At the very least there should be some transfer fee involved.

Must admit there's been some pile of sackings this year.

Still I'm sure Sanchez will get a decent payoff although a free shop in Harrods would be better.

Hardly the surprise of the year.

He saved Fulham from the drop which got him the job. Who couldn't have though?

Spent just shy of 30M, they have looked like a poor side this season. The man I feel for is Chris Coleman who earnt Fulham a lot through transfers and had most of his best players taken away from him.

Don't hold a grudge on Lawrie for leaving NI to try his luck in the premiership, huge pay rise (600% or so I believe) and wha he wanted to do. I'll bet when he thinks about it all now he has some regret for leaving us, he could be looking forward to Euro 2008 but instead will have to sign on.

Coleman must me laughing his cock off. Like you say, he was crippled by injuries last season and was harshly treated with the sack.

Looks like a few new faces will be with us in the new year

"
Further to this morning’s announcement of Lawrie Sanchez’ departure from Fulham, we can confirm that First Team coaches Dave Beasant and Terry Gibson have also left the Club.
Fulham Football Club would like to thank Dave and Terry for their services to the Club and we would like to wish them every success for the future."

Please don't bring Maclaren in

Fulham appoint Hodgson as manager

Fulham have announced Roy Hodgson as their new manager.
Hodgson has signed a long-term contract which will start on 30 December, with caretaker boss Ray Lewington in charge of Saturday's game at Birmingham.
Fulham sacked Lawrie Sanchez recently after the club fell into the Premier League's bottom three and they are still in the relegation zone.
"I am determined that we will overcome the current position," Hodgson, 60, told the club's official website. "I understand that it will be a challenge, but one that I will relish." Hodgson will be at Fulham's game at St. Andrews on Saturday before taking training with the Craven Cottage squad on Sunday.

Well I never saw that one coming, good appointment for Fulham and with Hodgson's connections some good players and a solid defence strategy will be on their way.

I don't think he's bad, but at over 60 years old would surely have been more suited to the International scene.

I know that Fulham were wanting people with proven track records after the inexperience of Coleman and Sanchez, but they've gone from one extreme to another.

One thing I would say about Sanchez is that with N.Ireland, there was never any pressure: there were no expectations to get results. The same could be said of his reign at Wycombe. All that people remember is the FA Cup run (an outstanding achievement) but the bigger picture is, Sanchez joined Wycombe when they were in League One and left them as relegation candidates to the Conference.

Hodgson will keep Fulham up but only by virtue of how rubbish other Premiership sides are. Hardly a long term appointment though, he'll be out within three years.

Maybe that's the plan though, see this season through, then get a platform to build upon.

I must be the only one then who thinks it's not a fantastic appointment. I suppose if he keeps top flight status then it will be a good move

I like the appointment. I thin Hodgson is a good manager, did well in his first season at Blackburn and will be back to prove something following his nightmare the second season.

Certainly a damn sight better than Joan Collins if you ask me.
