from the bits i saw in work last night, what a cracking game (even if i did see a different one from the chelsea dugout!)

havent had enough chances to see kuyt this season but he really impressed me last night with his hunger and his drive - hopefully we can get another quality striker in in the summer to replace fowler.

Liverpool goalkeeper Reina burgled during semi-final

LONDON (Reuters) - The home of goalkeeper Pepe Reina was burgled as he helped Liverpool reach the Champions League final on penalties, Merseyside Police said on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old Spanish international, who saved two spot kicks in the semi-final shootout against Chelsea, had a number of items stolen from his home in Woolton, Liverpool.
The player's Porshe Cayenne was taken and found burnt out in Fleetwood Walk at about 0530 GMT on Wednesday. A Bang & Olufsen entertainment system, paperwork and jewellery were also taken.
Merseyside Police were called to the address at 1:45 a.m. and said the burglary happened between 7 p.m. and 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday while Reina was performing heroics at a noisy Anfield.
It is the latest footballer's home to be targeted by thieves in the city. Reina's club team mates Jerzy Dudek, Daniel Agger, Peter Crouch and Florent Sinama-Pongolle, as well as Everton's Andy Van der Meyde, were all burgled last year.
Liverpool beat Chelsea 4-1 in the shootout after a 1-0 win had left the teams level at 1-1 on aggregate following extra time. They will face either Manchester United or AC Milan in the Champions League final in Athens on May 23.

Odd Champions League Final. 3rd/4th in England vs 3rd/4th in Italy.

It also blows apart Sky Sports little report that the game might be switched from Athens to somewhere closer (I'm guessing Wembley) if it was an all English final. WTF was that all about.

G14 and money says it'll never be back to the old way.

But also the glamour of it all, the big matches you get and the atmospheres games can get. The Champs League has really grown to what they dreamed it would be.

Yeah its shame tho that a team that finishes 4th 30 odd points back can win the CHAMP league

Or a team that comes 5th gets the chance to retain it?

It is a bit strange, but its the way it is now. And tbh you get some games you just can't take your eyes off each season. The cream of each league coming up against each other, its not bad

The Champions League has been the wrong name from the days they let 2nd enter though Its clearly not.

FULHAM 1 - 0 LIVERPOOL
Saturday 05 May 2007 15:00 , Barclays Premiership
REDS CRASH TO DEFEAT AT THE COTTAGE
Liverpool's bid to win the race for third place in the Premiership has suffered a setback after they went down to a 1-0 defeat against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Clint Dempsey's goal midway through the second half proved to be the crucial moment of the match as Rafael Benitez's side fell to their second Premiership defeat in succession.

The Reds still stand a point ahead of Arsenal in the league standings, but the Gunners now have a game in hand against Chelsea on Sunday.

With more than one eye on resting key players ahead of the Champions League final, manager Rafael Benitez made nine changes to the side which defeated Chelsea in midweek with only Pepe Reina and Jermaine Pennant surviving from Tuesday night.

Craig Bellamy was partnered by Robbie Fowler in attack while Harry Kewell made his first appearance of the season on the substitute's bench.

Despite the game holding much more importance for Lawrie Sanchez's side as they battle for their Premiership lives, it was Liverpool who enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges with Craig Bellamy missing a couple of early chances.

Fulham soon settled down and started causing problems for the Reds' backline, with Vincenzo Montella going closest to breaking the deadlock with an overhead kick which rebounded to safety off the base of the post.

Robbie Fowler missed a chance to add to his incredible career haul against Fulham by missing a sitter on the stroke of half time when he failed to convert from close range after good play by Jermaine Pennant.

The deadlock was broken midway through the second half and came at a time when it was Liverpool who looked the more likely side to open the scoring.

The Reds' defence were caught out down the flank and when full-back Liam Rosenior rolled the ball into the area substitute Clint Dempsey was well placed to slot the ball past Pepe Reina to score his first goal of the season.

Rafael Benitez made an instant change with Steve Finnan coming off the substitute's bench to replace Emiliano Insua while Harry Kewell joined the action soon after to make his first appearance of the campaign.

Kewell almost made a dream return with a low shot ten minutes from time which rolled agonisingly wide with Robbie Fowler just unable to touch the ball home.

Gabriel Paletta thought he'd equalised when he powered home a free kick from Xabi Alonso but his joy was short-lived as the linesman flagged for offside.

The Reds forced a number of late corners in a bid to salvage a point but Fulham survived to claim three precious points in their battle for safety, even though they lost midfielder Papa Diop in the final minute to a red card.

Poor result today but when you look at the side put out by Rafa it doesn't shock you. Needless to say he's got bigger fish to fry in a few weeks time and I guess thats where the season rests.

As long as all he does are the HT oranges, no starting place for him in Greece please! Mind you even with a starting place he'll probably be in the dressing room well before HT anyway!

I can't believe he merits a place on the bench let alone the starting line up.
The sooner he leaves the club the better.
