That is more like it. 4-0 and some very nice plays. This Ngog lad is not bad to be honest. I though we are only buying an youngster, but he has skill.

Aye, not a bad effort albeit against a Rangers side that couldn't beat Kaunas in the CL midweek.

N'gog didnt do much in France last season, interesting to see how much time he gets here. Like to see the lad go out on loan to a Championship to see what he's all about.

Still talk of Barry coming, this needs to be either put to bed or sorted out. More than happy to keep Alonso and play him instead but we'll see what saga's come of the next few weeks.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez insists he is not looking to sell Xabi Alonso in order to raise the necessary funds to sign Gareth Barry.

Benitez has conducted a summer-long hunt of £18million-rated Villa midfielder Barry, but it was believed the pursuit had come to an end when the Reds failed to meet a recent deadline for the deal.

However, Villa boss Martin O'Neill has confessed Barry could still leave and that it is up to Liverpool to meet the set asking price. It has been suggested Benitez is considering off-loading Alonso to Juventus in a fundraising exercise, but the Anfield boss is not keen to see the Spanish midfielder leave.

Good news

Can't a guy move house ? I've been to plenty of games over the last 15 years. Not my local team, but I refused to take the easy option and support one of the bigot brothers in Glasgow. I became a United fan in '82 during the height of Liverpools glory years anyway. If you're going to take that attitude, slate every Liverpool fan on this thread that doesn't have the correct postcode.

All that aside, has he been as influencial as the price tag we paid for him, 26m iirc, without doubt that's a yes. Rooney has been one of our most important players over the last couple of years, sure Ronaldo get's the awards, but strange thing is, when you take Rooney out the team we don't win nearly so much.

Someone pointed out around march last year, we'd lost 4 league games so far, Rooney hadn't played in any defeat, we'd never lost with him on the pitch.

His passing, vision and work rate is top drawer, without his (and Carlitos last season) Ronaldo wouldn't look half as good.

I think 26m was a good price, esp in todays market. If Tevez is worth 35m and Berbatov 38m, then that price for Rooney was a steal.

Remember Rooney isn't a striker in the classic sense, he's better suited playing a bit deeper.

We could sell him for a profit today. Raped ? Nah. We didn't rip of Everton though, we paid a fair price.

We've made some god awful signings recently, there were plenty you could pick on (Seba Veron, David Bellion ??) that are undefendable

I don't think a fan is defined by postcode at all - thats a nonesense and probably the 4 clubs in the UK thats most of a nonesense for are Liverpool, Man United, Celtic and Rangers. A hell of a lot of fans covered there by the Norn Iron postcode of BT. I know plenty of season ticket holders for each side, and loads who go to all games home and away for the teams. So what has where you are from really got to do with it?

Rooney may or may not be worth what Man Utd paid for him. But tbh, its a team game, and others do the hard work for Ronaldo to claim the glory at times. He's what 22? And his form is up and down, when he is on his game I don't want us to be playing him tbh.

Its a bit like Keane for me, only Keane is considerably older. Is he worth 20M? No, not a chance. To Liverpool if he links up with Torres well -he maybe just will be.

Good while ago Man Utd paid around 30M for Veron, a world class player on the top of his game. But he wasn't suited to the league and really, turned out a waste of money. Keane is suited to our style imo, 20M is a fair whack more than he is worth, but if it all works out then great.

Leto signs Olympiakos loan deal

Leto made four appearances for Liverpool last season

Liverpool midfielder Sebastian Leto has agreed a two-year loan deal with Olympiakos after being denied a work permit to play in England next season.
The 21-year-old Argentine, who joined the Reds from Lanus for around £2m in 2007, was granted an Italian passport last summer but it was later revoked.
That left Leto needing a work permit but Liverpool's application was refused by the Department of Work and Pensions.
And he arrived in Greece on Monday to complete his medical with Olympiakos.
"Olympiakos is a challenge for me. I know I will be here for two years," Leto told the club's official website.
"I've had two weeks of pre-season training with Liverpool and I believe I will be ready to do whatever I have to.
606: DEBATE

After seeing some of his performances it could be a blessing, he doesn't look ready for the first team yet

Makar

"Olympiakos are a great team who challenge for every honour in Greece and in the Champions League.
"The team has some good players, a well known coach and fanatical supporters which always inspires them."
On Monday, Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez expressed his belief that the decision not to give Leto a work permit was unfair.
"I am disappointed and it was a surprise because this is a player who has played in the Champions League and been in the Argentina squad for the Olympic Games," Benitez told Liverpool's website.
"You have managers talking about how good he is, so I think the system needs to change.
"We have maybe eight or 10 teams in Spain, Italy and Greece asking about him. When you have eight or 10 teams asking about a player and he's not playing, it means that he is good." Benitez remains confident that Leto still has a future at Anfield, however, adding: "He has a long contract, and I think he can impress and next year will be a different situation." Leto played four times for Liverpool last season in the Champions League and Carling Cup but is yet to make his Premier League debut for the club.

Good move for the lad in my opinion. Top European side and he should come on for the experience. Was looking at him breaking into the side at sometime this season but not now following his work permit being denied.

Nice victory again. Same goalscorers Team looking good ahead of the season. Torres was very sharp tonight. All we need now is a goal for Keano against Lazio and we are good to go.

+ I really don't wanna see Xabi go. After a good pre-season and no more injuries plus the confidence after the Euro. He will be firing. And Benayoun has looked our best player in pre-season. Looks like he'll be starting.

If Barry isn't coming in then I think you're safe to assume that Alonso isn't going anywhere. Well i'd hope not!

Looked good in pre-season (Alonso), hopefully he can kick on for the start of the season and the Liege games.

Fair play to you. I didn't like the Candy one, and tbh don't like the new one. Its odd for me this season, don't think I will get any of the kits, not really a fan of any of the new ones

Now the golden top that we use in the 2001 FA Cup final - thats a great shirt imo
