A fcuking disgrace. He shouldn't be allowed near a non league game let alone a big game.

Doesn't it just. Without football I couldn't string so many swear words together

I have begun to calm down a little. I'm not a violent person, but lets be thankful I couldn't see Rob Styles after the match. That was a horror show.

LIVERPOOL 1 - 1 ROB STYLES
Sunday 19 August 2007 16:00 , Barclays Premier League
REDS HELD BY HARSH PENALTY
A wrongly awarded second half penalty, scored by Frank Lampard, has cancelled out Fernando Torres' first competitive Liverpool goal and denied the Reds all three points after Chelsea held them to a 1-1 in Sunday's Premiership clash at Anfield.
The Reds had taken a deserved first half lead when Torres beat Cech with a superbly placed shot, but they were rocked when referee Rob Styles adjudged that Finnan had fouled Malouda in the box and Frank Lampard scored from the penalty spot to equalize.

Liverpool did create chances to retake the lead and it took a fine save from Cech to deny Kuyt's header, but Rafa's men will be disappointed not have to taken all three points after television replays proved Chelsea's lifeline was an extremely harsh decision.

Liverpool couldn't have been given a harder assignment for their first home game of the campaign than last season's deposed Champions Chelsea, but they came into the game full of confidence, brought by two wins in a week against Aston Villa and Toulouse.

Rafa Benitez's summer transfers has given the Reds plenty of strength in depth for this year and he again made the most of his large squad, recalling Xabi Alonso to partner Steven Gerrard in midfield; and also reuniting Dirk Kuyt and Fernando Torres in attack after they made an impressive start together at Villa Park.

When we got under way, it was Liverpool who threatened first when Pennant's cross found Riise well placed only for him to mis-control. And but for a Drogba shot that went well wide, the early stages belonged to Rafa's men and they confirmed their superiority when Fernando Torres gave them the lead with a fine goal.

Reds skipper Steven Gerrard was playing through the pain barrier today after suffering a hairline fracture of his toe against Toulouse, but you wouldn't have known it when he sprang to life and played a brilliant pass into the channel for Torres. Anfield waited as Torres went one on one with Ben-Haim and the young Spaniard didn't disappoint as he swept passed the Chelsea defender and placed the ball beyond Cech and into the net. It was a brilliant goal from Torres on his Anfield debut.

Chelsea almost hit back straight away when a dangerous Didier Drogba free-kick from 20 yards was deflected only narrowly wide; and they came more into the game as the first half wore on. The visitors almost getting themselves level when Terry just failed to connect with the ball at the far post, but Liverpool will feel they'd done enough to warrant their lead at the break.

The second half started with Chelsea initially in the ascendancy with Mikel and Pizarro both wasting good headed chances. But Liverpool were soon back on top and they produced an excellent chance for Alonso that he dragged wide.

Liverpool were building a head of steam and you felt sure a second would come, but they were rocked when referee Rob Styles gave Chelsea a route back into the game in the 62nd minute when he adjudged that Steve Finnan had fouled Florent Malouda in the penalty area. The injustice of the decision was proven by television replays, but Chelsea accepted their gift when Lampard beat Reina from the spot to make it 1-1.

To their credit, Liverpool picked themselves straight back up and they again went in search of a second goal, only this time it was to take the lead. They came close just after the hour when Riise fizzed a volley just wide of the angle, but Chelsea shut up shop and chances were hard to come by, a Kuyt header that brought a good save from Cech was the closest Liverpool came to restoring their advantage that had wrongly taken away from them.

Rob Styles to one side it was a good showing. Well taken goal by Torres too.

Limited Chelsea to one shot on target (the penalty) and created plenty of chances ourselves. One thing that is still concerning is we had chances well into the double figures yet still only had 3-4 on target.

WTFE I had you down as a Chelsea man

I'm happy with how Liverpool played throughout. Alonso needs a boot up the arse mind, he was very lackluster at times today. If Chelsea hadn't got the penalty we'd have won 1-0, I feel robbed still as the ref managed to create something out of that.

The problem is (as always) that the penalty should have made no difference as the game should have been in the bag by that point anyway. Its ok when 1 goal proves to be enough but its games like today where it costs us two points that really hurts our title chances. We're playing well enough to be real contenders, we just need to convert those eprformancs into points more often.

WFTE .. you are right my mate, but your words are more relevant for the games with the weak teams. Let's take Villa for example .. we should have scored 2nd goal and the penalty in the end would have been no problem at all. Against Chelsea it will always be a tight affair and you will get 3 or 4 chances max. The main thing is the performance was very good and they would have never scored even if we were playing without a goalie. There are plenty of positives to be taken from this game and I don't care about the stupid referee. Sunderland, Derby, Pompy, Birmingham and Wigan in the next 5. Win them all and 6:1:0 after 7 games won't be bad at all

Heinze loses appeal

Disappointment for United star

Last updated: 21st August 2007

Heinze: No deal

A Premier League tribunal has ruled that Gabriel Heinze will not be allowed to move to Liverpool.

The Argentine international had requested the Premier League intervene, when Manchester United refused to sanction his departure to Liverpool.

Heinze looked to be on his way out of Old Trafford in the summer, when the club invited offers from European sides, but the player set his heart on Anfield.

Uncertain future

United have remained adamant in their stance that Heinze would not be allowed to join a title rival and this viewpoint has now been vindicated by the Premier League.

The Premier League said in a statement: "The hearing concluded that nature and intention of the disputed 13 June 2007 letter, especially when taken in context of verbal discussions and Manchester United FC's transfer policy, was unambiguous in that it envisages only an international transfer.

"Furthermore the hearing finds the letter constitutes an 'agreement to agree', and did not create an obligation or binding agreement for the club to transfer the player to any particular club.

"In other words the letter is evidence of an intention to negotiate, both between the parties and with potential buying clubs, and not evidence of any intention to create legal relations."

After the hearing, which was attended by both Sir Alex Ferguson and chief executive David Gill, a United spokesman confirmed the club's satisfaction with the outcome.

"We are pleased that the panel has endorsed our case," read an official statement.

Ferguson and United officials have always maintained that Heinze could leave for another country, for a fee of around £6.8million, but it remains to be seen whether he still has a future in Manchester.

Not shocked to hear that Heinze isn't coming. Didn't see it happening to be honest.

If Rafa wanted him then I guess he'd still be in the market for another defender.

keep the money for someone 10 years younger and with potential to develop.

Liverpool have confirmed the double captures of defender Mikel San Jose and goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi.
Hungarian stopper Gulacsi has arrived on a 12-month loan from MTK Hungaria and joins countryman Andras Simon and Krisztian Nemeth at Anfield.

San Jose is a Spanish centre-half who has joined the Reds from Athletic Bilbao on a three-year contract.

Both players will train at Melwood and be a part of Gary Ablett's reserve team squad.

I think the title could end up at any of 4 places this season, and being robbed of the points against Chelsea made me a little annoyed, as some of my posts on Sunday may indicate. It would have given us a major boost if we had won.

Benitez blasts Premier League

Manager questions decisions

By Peter Fraser Last updated: 22nd August 2007

Benitez: Accusations
It's going to be very difficult for us to win the Premier League.
Rafa Benitez
Quotes of the week

Rafa Benitez has blasted the Premier League for what he believes is unfair treatment of Liverpool.

The Reds boss has been upset by the ruling of a Premier League arbitration hearing that Manchester United are within their rights to block Gabriel Heinze's possible move to Anfield.

The Argentinian defender has been the subject of a summer-long transfer tussle between the two clubs and following the League's judgment it appears unlikely Benitez will get his man any time soon.

However, Benitez believes that Liverpool are consistently on the wrong end of a number of official decisions and that these could threaten a potential title bid.

"I would like to ask the Premier League a number of questions," Benitez told the Liverpool Echo.

"How can a player with a signed agreement be treated like this? He [Heinze] has a document which is clear, but the Premier League prefers to believe the word of someone else who made a mistake.

Fight all the way

"I know there were accusations made against Liverpool in the hearing which were unbelievable. How can this be allowed?

"Then I would like to ask the Premier League why is it that Liverpool always plays the most fixtures, away from home in an early kick-off, following an international break?

"We had more than the top clubs last season and we have four already to prepare for this season.

"Then I want to ask the Premier League why it was so difficult for Liverpool to sign Javier Mascherano, when we had to wait a long time for the paperwork, but it was so easy for Carlos Tevez to join Manchester United?

"It's going to be very difficult for us to win the Premier League because the other teams are so strong, but I want our supporters to know that despite the disadvantages we have, we will fight all the way.

"We will fight to cope with our more difficult kick-off times and all the other decisions which are going against us."

Glad to see Rafa have a bit of a go at the Premier League, theres a couple of things he said that had annoyed me as well. So many early kick offs after the breaks especially, and away after European games also.

I'd prefer if we left the Heinze deal now though. He's 29, as aliando says Man Utd have been loyal to him and he wants to move to their bitter rivals ahead of possible big deals elsewhere.
