The Luis Garcia 'part' of the deal to Atletico Madrid is more or less done which to me paves the way for Senor Torres to join Liverpool. Still won't believe it until I see it, ever the sceptic.

Garcia set to make Atletico move

Garcia looks certain to make a return to Spain

Liverpool midfielder Luis Garcia is on the verge of rejoining Atletico Madrid, according to his agent.
"We are working on Luis Garcia's transfer to Atletico de Madrid," the 29-year-old's agent Manuel Garcia Quillon told PA Sport on Monday.
"If all goes well, the deal should be completed either today or tomorrow."
Atletico are also negotiating with Liverpool over the sale of forward Fernando Torres, who could be making a switch to the Anfield club for £26.5m.

This means we must be getting Torres

Garcia joined Liverpool from Barcelona in 2004 and helped the Reds win the Champions League but has been out injured since January this year. The Spain international has played 121 games for Liverpool, scoring 30 goals.

Liverpool have continued their youth recruitment drive with another raid on Bulgaria.
CSKA Sofia midfielder Mihail Alexandrov has announced that he has agreed a deal to move to Anfield.
The 18-year-old told Bulgarian radio that he has already passed a medical with Rafa Benitez's outfit.
Alexandrov revealed that he will finish his current youth season with CSKA before linking up with Liverpool.
"Everything is done - I've passed a medical, agreed terms, the only thing left is to sign the contract," Alexandrov is quoted in the Bulgarian media.
"Even in my most optimistic dreams, I never thought I would move to a club this big."
Alexandrov's capture is Liverpool's second raid on Bulgaria following the capture of Levski goalkeeper Nikolai Mihailov last week.
In the last week the captures of youngsters Dani Pacheco, Alex Kacaniklic, Marvin Purie, Mikel San Jose, Krisztian Nemeth and Andras Simon have all been confirmed.

I'm eagerly awaiting confirmation of the Torres deal. 26.5M is a little pricey, but you have to pay for world class talent. And given the main other two we were linked with was 16.5M Darren Bent and 15M Diego Forlan it looks reasonably sound business.

Theres no way Liverpool will go the way of Leeds. The money in the Prem is too big now, Leeds went bad at the wrong time. Also with all die respect to Leeds Liverpool are a much bigger club globally.

Great news for Liverpool IMO and it's fans... I have always had a liking for the spainard and to see him move down by the merseyside brings me great happiness...

... tho I am sure he wont I would not however like to see him take complete preference over Kuyt who has did a great job last season despite hitting the X-bar about 20 times (it really seems too attract his shots...) hopefully Torres adjustment to the EPL wont take too long and he can put us deep in contention for the league this season...

P.S nice too see those Yanks finally forking out some dosh for the major signings promised...

If you weren't serious i'd have to laugh!

Talking about proper footballers though... Torres is a God and i have a spain shirt with his name gracing the back - one of my favourite purchases If he'd gone to arsenal though i wouldn't have been able to wear the shirt again and if chelsea then everyone would think i'm a glory hunter, if man utd or liverpool i can probably just get away with wearing it and not look a total cock.

no non LFC negative vibes allowed here. We can moan as much as we want but others shouldn't piss on our parade.

I have waited since the Champions League final for a moment like Torres signing. And I can't enjoyy it even now as its not done, but don't spoil my build up for it

i have to throw my few pennys worth in here with a simple value comparison
Henry or torres

i beleive next season we will see the emergance of the second tier of the premiership

EVERTON,TOTTENHAM,NEWCASTLE AND THE SEASONAL SUPRISE PACKAGE will give the Henryless arsenal and the (cant win a game after we have played in europe Liverpool) will struggle to secure top 4 status

Why are Liverpool in the champiuons league anyway they havent won the league for well over a decade now

Anyway joking aside best signings of the year has to be ARTETA and CAHIL thats were the true class is on merseyside

No offence intended

Atletico Madrid have confirmed they have reached an agreement to sell Fernando Torres to Liverpool after the Spanish international passed his medical on Merseyside.
Torres will now return to his home country to bid goodbye to his fans in the Spanish capital, before travelling back to England to be presented as Liverpool's record signing in a deal worth a reported £26.5million.
"Club Atletico de Madrid has reached an agreement with Liverpool Football Club for the sale of Fernando Torres to the British club," read a statement on the Spanish club's website.
"The player, accompanied by Don Enrique Cerezo and Jesus Garcia Pitarch, will hold a farewell press conference on Wednesday 4 July."
Liverpool have also confirmed that Torres passed all the necessary medical tests during his trip to England on Tuesday.
"The player has passed a medical," confirmed a club spokesman.
"All the agreements are now in place and he will put pen to paper on the deal on Wednesday."
Rafa Benitez has targeted Torres as a key recruit as he looks to mount a challenge for the Premier League title next season, and the substantial outlay on the striker nicknamed 'El Nino' is certainly a prominent signal of intent on the part of the Anfield boss.
Torres is expected to sign a six-year contract worth around £90,000 per week upon joining the five-time European Cup winners, and his arrival will likely increase speculation regarding the futures of Craig Bellamy and Peter Crouch.
Manchester City have been linked with a move for Crouch with former England boss Sven Goran Eriksson set to take charge at Eastlands, but Liverpool have played down speculation that the fans' favourite could be sold.
Chief executive Rick Parry insists the unique striker remains very much a key player at Anfield.
"It is not true that he is the only player not to have been approached about a new deal and he is very much part of Rafa Benitez's future plans," stated Parry. Luis Garcia has already been moved out of Anfield to help accommodate Torres, joining Atletico in a £4million deal on Tuesday.

Should be a fantastic signing that could make a real difference. Look forward to watching him play in the prem. Might well make things that bit closer up the top of the league this season. If Utd had got him, I think it would have made them strong favourites to retain the title.

Anway, hope he's a good player for you.

Deal for Torres done. 6 year deal which is unheard of and he gets the coveted Number 9 shirt which is a sign of intent for me.

Liverpool complete Torres signing

Torres scored 14 goals last season for Atletico

Liverpool have signed Fernando Torres from Atletico Madrid on a six-year deal for a fee believed to be £20m.
Reds boss Rafael Benitez said the 23-year-old Spanish striker, who passed a medical at on Tuesday, took a pay cut as part of the move.
"The Liverpool offer arrived and I told the club to listen to that offer as that is the team I wanted to play for," said the Spanish international.
"It's one of the best, if not the best, club in Europe."
Interview: Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez

606: DEBATE

Getting Torres will bring us closer to Man Utd and Chelsea, but we need a winger

CM

Torres returned to Madrid to say farewell to the Atletico supporters before travelling back to Merseyside to be unveiled by his new club.
He had been at Atletico since 11 and became their youngest ever captain at the age of 19.
He has been the Spanish club's leading scorer in each of the last five campaigns, scoring 14 league goals in 36 starts last season as the side finished seventh in La Liga.
"It has been a difficult decision to leave my all-time club," said Torres.

I think Premiership is a football that adapts well to my style

Fernando Torres

"But it would have been hard for me to reject Liverpool's offer. It is a big leap for me and I think it was the right thing for everyone.
"The time comes in the life of a player that he needs more challenges."
Torres will wear the number nine shirt worn by ex-Anfield forward's Ian Rush and Robbie Fowler.
His capture also shatters the £14m the Reds paid Auxerre for striker Djibril Cisse as the club's previous record signing three seasons ago.
"The fact that Liverpool are giving me the number nine jersey just goes to show the confidence they have placed in me, when considering those who have worn that shirt before me," said Torres.
"A new beautiful adventure begins for me and I hope that with work and effort I can be among the best players.

He has power, pace, is good in the air, scores goals, can dribble and do a lot of things

Reds boss Rafael Benitez

"This is a unique opportunity for me. Liverpool aspire to everything and that has been an important factor in my decision to go there.
"I want to adapt as quickly as possible. I think Premiership is a football that adapts well to my style.
Villarreal's Diego Forlan has been lined up to replace Torres at Atletico in a £14.2m deal, while the Anfield club have recouped some of their outlay by selling Luis Garcia to Atletico for about £4m.
Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez wanted to land Torres to provide a spearhead for an assault on the title and believes the fee for Torres will not adversely trouble the player.
"He has experience," said fellow Spaniard Benitez. "He was playing in the first division at 17 years old and I think he can manage the pressure.
"He knows he will be an important player and I'm sure the staff and other players will help him.
"He has power, pace, is good in the air, scores goals, can dribble and do a lot of things. The kind of striker he is different to the other strikers we have at the moment."
Benitez also expects Torres to have more of an impact at the club than ex-striker Fernando Morientes. "He is different to Morientes," added Benitez. "He is quicker and stronger. "Morientes had other skills and was a very good finisher but Torres can run behind defenders, can play in the wide areas or play between the lines to receive the ball."
