| poor game of football to be honest, at times was awful to watch Plymouth were the better team IMO, there was even a period between 65-75 mins when we couldnt get the ball out of our half, they were all over us however, in defence we were mostly solid but hardly threatened much in attack 2nd half. We lacked energy throughout the 90 mins and intent. Mistakes were made all too often for my liking. Was a grafting display and I'd have happily taken a point after 70 mins. Managed to nick a winner late on and Elland Road went bezerk. Mini pitch invasion which i nearly became a part of, but tripped up over a seat nearly injuring myself result that matters always and we got the win have to improve for Col U though otherwise we will lose

| Colchester 2-1 Leeds completely undeserved for Colchester today, Leeds shouldn't have lost this. Outplayed them for 80 mins and they strike fcuking late Barnsley 1-0 Birmingham as well, despite B'ham missing shitloads of chances, shocking and southend win disaster day for Leeds ![]()

| U's Find Late Thrust For Dramatic Win
Following the fluency of the win down at Southend three days earlier, the U's were not at their best in this match and only came to life in the final fifteen minutes of the game. When Leeds took the lead through an Eddie Lewis shot, it seemed as though the U's were in trouble, as they had not found top gear in this match. But, thanks to two set pieces form the right hand side, they clawed their way back into the match to move a point closer to the play-offs and leave Leeds and their supporters broken hearted. After so many dramatic late wins for the Elland Road side of late, they were given a taste of how it felt themselves in north Essex as Jamie Cureton moved joint top of the goalscoring charts. It was only the second time this season the U's had come from behind to win and with Preston losing to Southend, Layer Road becomes the best home venue in the Championship. The U's named an unchanged side from the one that defeated Southend so convincingly on Good Friday. Kevin McLeod replaced George Elokobi on the bench to give the home team more attacking options should they be needed. And they started on the front foot once again as two great cross field balls, from Kevin Watson and Chris Barker ended with Richard Garcia putting a dangerous ball across the box. The visitors were looking dangerous on the break, but it was the U's who were proving the more incisive going forwards as they sought the breakthrough. Unsurprisingly, after his Good Friday hat-trick, Jamie Cureton was being given plenty of attention in the early stages by the visitors' defence. And, with that in mind, it was Garcia who had the first real attempt on goal with nine minutes on the clock as he headed narrowly over the bar from a corner. But the early stages of the game were not ones full of chances as the two teams worked on finding a way to unlock each other's back line. The midfield battle was particularly keenly contested as Watson and Izzet went up against Douglas and Thompson. Goal hero Cureton's first sight of goal came fifteen minutes into the first half as a clever diagonal ball from Barker saw him escape from the shoulder of Gray, only to drive well over the bar. The visitors had not really tested Gerken in the opening exchanges but the U's keeper saw the ball go wide of his far post as Healy drove a shot across goal without any real power. Izzet generated more power from an Iwelumo knock down on twenty-two minutes, but his low shot from the edge of the box was straight into the arms of Ankergren. A clever free kick a minute later from Leeds almost proved to be the path to goal as a ball drifted to the far post was headed back into danger by Kandol and Brown had to head over the bar to clear from danger. Six minutes later and it was Gerken helping the ball over the woodwork as an impromptu effort from Douglas dipped at the last minute. The visitors were clever with their set pieces and another alternative effort on 32 minutes saw Lewis step forward and drive a low shot that Iwelumo blocked. A minute later and Kandol spurned the best chance of the half as the ball dropped to him eight yards out, only to whack it well over the bar. Leeds were having a good spell of pressure against a U's side finding it difficult to find a way through the other team's back line. The U's were not retaining the ball well, which was allowing Leeds to develop plenty of moves of their own. And the visitors really should have taken the lead three minutes before the break. It was a rare defensive lapse that saw Healy presented with just Gerken to beat and, as he took a touch to set himself, he fired over the bar with the goal at his mercy. However, the U's were as disjointed as their opponents when it came to chances in front of goal, with Ankergren having enjoyed a relatively easy first half - until the dying stages at least. First, his team-mate nearly put him under pressure as Marques dropped a hefty backpass in his direction which the shot stopper did well to control and clear. And then he got a yellow for bringing down Garcia on the edge of the box. Unfortunately, the U's half was summed up as Cureton's shot ended up in the fans behind the goal. The U's were looking to be more positive after the interval and had the first chance of note three minutes into the second half. A good knock down by Iwelumo fell into the path of Garcia and on the angle, he hit a shot that the visiting keeper saved well. But it remained a disjointed effort from the U's, who were doing their best to discover their rhythm and find the first goal of the game. However, the visitors found that opening goal, as Lewis drove forward from the midfield and found space on the edge of the box, hitting a shot that skipped up past Gerken and into the net. The U's went up the other end three minutes later and Cureton had two stabs at beating Ankergren, with the Dane flying acrobatically to collect the second effort to stop the equaliser. The home team made their first change with 57 minutes gone, and it was an attacking one as Watson left the field to be replaced by Ephraim. The substitute was soon in the thick of the action, drawing a foul from Kishishev that saw the Bulgarian booked. He was followed into the book by Lewis, who went through the back of Izzet as he laid the ball off from a throw. The home team, in patches, were starting to find some momentum and Iwelumo headed wide from a deep Duguid cross on 64 minutes. The U's then contrived a good move on 28 minutes, as Ephraim started and finished affairs, sadly driving over the bar. That miss was the signal for another U's substitution as Garcia was replaced by Guy for the final 22 minutes of the game. But the U's just could not find the attacking fluency that had served them so well and endured more frustration on 75 minutes when Jackson drove over the bar under pressure on the edge of the box. The U's midfielder then nearly weaved his way through only to be denied by a late tackle and Guy was similarly halted as he built up a head of steam. And the home team drew level with nine minutes as Iwelumo grabbed his seventeenth of the season. From a free kick deep on the right hand side, the ball was thrust into the box and the big Scot rose highest to plant a header past Ankergren into the net. The U's tails were up now and, after Marques failed to clear with his header, the ball fell to Ephraim, who laid it to Izzet - his effort fizzing just wide of the post. A minute later and Iwelumo was causing mischief, forcing a mistake from the home defence and, from the edge of the box, Cureton curled wide of the far post. The visitors made a late change in an attempt to again grab an important three points, with Healy coming off to be replaced by Blake. The substitute hadn't touched the ball when the U's took a dramatic lead. Again it came from a free kick on the right and, although the visitors did manage to half clear, Ephraim helped the ball into the danger area. The ball dropped into the path of Cureton, who chested the ball away from his feet and helped it past Ankergren into the net. It was a hugely dramatic moment and, with goals going in at Deepdale to give Southend the win at Preston, the whole season's outcome had once again changed in an instant. The final whistle blew not long afterwards and the U's hopes of a late play-off push lingers on. It was all too much for Douglas, who saw red after the final whistle - his drama lost amidst the celebrations at Layer Road. Att: 5,916

QPR almost out of it, but Leicester really starting to fall into the mix. Only Hull and Leicester losing stopped it being the worst day possible for Leeds really. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Have been watching the Championship relegation battle with alot of interest over the last few months. We are still none the wiser as to where Leeds will finish, but 50-51 points may be enough, so 3 wins from their remaining 4 matches will give them a decent shot of staying up. If they suffer 2 more defeats, then that is curtains. Their remaining 4 games are: Burnley (Home) Southampton (Away) Ipswich (Home) Derby (Away) You would expect them to beat Ipswich at home and they will be a good shot against Burnley who have themselves just moved away from the relegation dogfight now. The two away matches against Southampton & Derby may spell the end for them though, if they can take away 3 points from these two games then they may just fancy themselves. Its a very tough ask though, but i believe they can do it. Will be very very interesting... |

| Hull, Leicester & Barnsley appear to be the other main teams involved and their remaining fixtures are: Hull City 44pts: vs Colchester (home) vs Stoke (away) vs Cardiff (away) vs Plymouth (home) Hull look to have the easier draw than both Leeds & Barnsley here, 3 wins will see them avoid relegation and you would expect them to win both their home games, Stoke & Cardiff will be tricky away ties but even 1 point will be handy. Barnsley 44pts: vs Southend (away) vs Crystal Palace (home) vs Leicester (home) vs West Brom (away) Barnsley also with an easier draw than Leeds, they will fancy themselves against Southampton and Crystal Palace, the match against Leicester could be extremely important as Leicester are involved in the relegation battle now too with only 47 points. West Brom away to finish the season will be very tough, so they will need to make the most of their next 3 matches. Leicester 47pts: vs Norwich (home) vs Birmingham (home) vs Preston (away) vs Barnsley (away) vs Wolverhampton (home) Leicester have a game in hand over the other 3, two wins should see them avoid relegation. Its a tough draw but they would expect to beat Norwich at home, while Preston have had some poor results in recent times against the lower teams so Leicester will hope to capitalise on that. If they can see off Barnsley that will be a vital result. they should be safe from relegation though you would imagine |

| one thing I have realised in this division is that absolutely anything is possible. its become on of the most unpredictable leagues in europe IMO, anything is possible and anyone can beat anyone on the day. you can look on paper and say - 'we will win that one' and 'they will lose that' after Barnsley and Southends shock wins today, I've had enough of all this speculating. fcuk knows what will happen tbh if we survive we suvive, if not then tough shit we should come back quickly anyway.
