MLSE buying English soccer club?

Last Updated: Monday, May 26, 2008 | 1:33 AM ET Comments0Recommend0

The Canadian Press

Dougie Freedman's Leeds United could soon belong to MLSE. (Clive Rose/Getty Images)Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment is in talks to purchase English soccer club Leeds United, British newspaper the Sunday Mirror reported on its website.
Citing unnamed sources, the Mirror reported preliminary talks between Leeds and MLSE have already taken place. Leeds chairman Ken Bates would not confirm the discussions occurred.
MLSE president Richard Peddie and chief financial officer Ian Clarke visited England last month and met officials from a number of clubs, including Southampton and Reading.
MLSE owns the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Toronto Raptors, American Hockey League team Toronto Marlies and Major League Soccer franchise Toronto FC.
Leeds currently plays in League One, England's third professional division.

Went to the Leeds v York friendly on friday night, was a decent game, Leeds fielded 2 different sides and we played well, Beckford looked extremely sharp and robinson pleased in flashes, he looks like a rugby league player though!!! Showumni looks decent with the ball for a big guy and seems the perfect replacement for Kandol (the only one omitted from the 23 players who played!)

There were 4400 people there, and leeds had 2300 fans in the away, plus numerous others in the home bits!

Wil be interesting to see how this tour of Ireland pans out ...

Looks as though it is only me keeping this goign at the mo!

Anyway, cracking performance by Leeds tonight, despite the piss poor opposition.

Did anyone see Beckfords' hatrick? His 2nd and 3rd goals were fabulous, and would not have been out of place in the premiership. He's now 5.2 on betfair to be topscorer in the league.

Yeah was a great hatrick, especially the third which reminded me off Beckhams lob over David James at Upton Park a few years back. One worry about backing beckford would be that defenders in League One know he's one of the top strikers in the lower leagues and may target him and try to injure him.

Just got back from ER.

What an awesome, awesome display by the lads. Trying not to get too carried away as Crewe were very, very poor but it shoudl have been 6 or 7 to nil. The gloss was taken off a touch with Lubo's sending off and 2 subsequent crewe goals, but i don't think it takes anything away from the performance.

The star of the show was Fabian Delph. Absolutely fantastic. 17 year old and he ran the game. I know its early doors and the oppostion was piss poor but he really looks a prospect. Up front Becchio and Beckford look sharp as razors and no-one in the midfield had a bad game.

Check out the goals too - the first 3 were all belters!

Things are looking up.
