LEAGUE ONE TABLE: P-GD-PTS
1 Swansea 45-39-89
2 Doncaster 25-25-80
3 Nottm For 45-31-79
4 Carlisle 45-18-79
5 Southend 45-15-75
6 Leeds 45-33-73

Leeds United have failed in their bid to claim back the 15 points they were deducted by the Football League.
The decision by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators means Leeds will not win automatic promotion from League One, though they are in the play-offs.
An independent three-man arbitration reached its verdict behind closed doors in London, ruling the League had not acted unfairly when docking the points.
The penalty was a punishment for breaking competition insolvency rules.

Leeds had already been docked 10 points for entering administration at the end of last season while still in the Championship.
They felt the additional penalty during the current campaign had been unduly harsh.
Any return of points would have upset Leeds' League One promotion rivals, with Doncaster and Carlisle likely to have taken legal action.
Leaders Swansea are confirmed as champions. Leeds were fifth when previous boss Dennis Wise joined Kevin Keegan's backroom team at Newcastle. Gary McAllister replaced him and booked a play-off spot last Friday with a 1-0 win over Yeovil.

Don't know what to make of it. I have always had a soft spot for Leeds for some reason, so wanted them to be successful in their appeal. But at the same time, I can see why they have not been re-awarded the points.

Probably for the best, as it would have caused havoc. Either way Leeds have created history this season and getting promoted via the play offs would be the icing on the cake.

Leeds 2-1 Gillingham
Att: 38,256

Says it all really. Pissed on all of the premier leagues attendences bar Man United and Villa.

So, what for the playoffs?

I would much rather have had Southend, but Carlisle are more accommodating than Donny.

Why in gods name would you prefer Southend . Only 1 team are real good form in these playoffs and it's them IMO. As for Leeds, I've said it all season and I'll say it again and am happy to be shot down in flames if I'm wrong but you're just not good enough to go up. How Forest have ended up 2nd in this division is beyond me though. If they were in the playoffs you'd have had more of a chance because they were one of the biggest heaps of shite I saw all season.

Southend to go up for me.

Just that we have beaten them well twice at home in the league and lost 1 drawn 1 away which should see us progress. Its just whenever I have seen them, i haven't been that impressed, but I know Tilson tries to make them play decent stuff.

Have to disagree on both counts here mate, Leeds have the best form of anyone in the playoffs;
Leeds 15 6 5 0 1 10:4 wWlwwW
Southend 11 6 3 2 1 9:5 wWDwlD
Doncaster 8 6 2 2 2 8:6 LdWdWl
Carlisle 5 6 1 2 3 6:10 WDlLlD
Won't shoot you down at all mate, but hope your wrong. IMHO i think we have a good squad. 3 excelent centre halves, an excellent midfield partnership and in Beckford a genuine goalscoring talent who can definitely make the step up.

Will be interesting if nothing else!!!

It'll certainly be interesting mate. I'm only going on the two times I saw you in person this season which was against us and I thought you were poor both times. I saw Donny 1st hand last weekend and they looked a seriously good side. 10 times the side Forest looked in truth which only goes to show how weird this league is.

Whether you go up or not, at least you did football a favour by sending Gillingham and their big mouthed cnut of a chairman down a division .

Real shambles from us tonight was that

I’ve gotta say I'm exceptionally disappointed with that performance. We looked utterly clueless at times with no idea. IMO we were pretty much played off the park. This must surely be one of our worst displays of the year.

We were a lot of peoples favourites to win these league 1 play offs. I personally didn't 'expect' to win them because I feared Doncaster or Southend might have us in the final. However I fully expected us to make it comfortable past Carlisle and claim an easy win tonight.

I was just about to say we were finished, but yet again the late goal gods shine down on us. That strike just about keeps our hopes alive.

We didn’t deserve it and unless an improvement is shown in the 2nd leg, we’re gone.

We'll see how the pressure cooker unfolds at Carlisle, but a lifeline has certainly been thrown.

It was a strange end to the game with both sets of fans celebrating, Carlisle cos they have the advantage and a win at Elland Road and Leeds because that goal may be the lifeline that sees them to the final. Nice to see Bridge-Wilkinson on the score sheet, old City boy, I didn't even know he was at Carlisle.

Thought Carlisle were excellent tonight. Tactically spot on and given the disappointment they must have had after missing out on automatic promotion they showed a load of spirit. How good was Kieran Westwood tonight . Absolutely superb. Commentators made out it was "his night" but that's bollocks. Anyone who has seen this division this season knows he's a million miles ahead of any other keeper this season. That goal at the end set the 2nd leg up absolutely beautifully for a neutral though although that's not the place to be going with a 1 goal defecit.

I still think Donny go up from here.

Roll on Thursday

Totally agree.

Leeds were extremely poor tonight, very disappointing. Where the fook was the midfield? I love Douggy but he was piss poor tonight, no-one wanted to grasp the game by the scruff. too many easy balls given away.

I certainly don't think Carlisle "played us off the park" - a lucky 1st goal, poor defending for the 2nd ... dont get me wrong, Carlisle, as Kev says were tactically superb and did deserve to win, just think Westowood was teh difference tonight.

Will certainly be exciting on Thursday!

Class, always had a soft spot for them. They are my second favourite English team after Newcastle... Fingers crossed they do it!
