| Ken Bates has confirmed he has talked with Freddy Shepherd about investing in Leeds, but insists he is not about to sell-up to the former Newcastle chairman. Bates has revealed that he has had discussions with Shepherd, who is believed to be keen on getting back into football following his departure from St James' Park. However, Bates is keen to stress that he has no plans to sell the club to Shepherd. Talks "This is inspired speculation because Freddy and I had lunch last week in Newcastle," Bates told Yorkshire Radio. "He's not about to swoop in a 'sensational deal' for Leeds and I'm not about to sell it either. "Freddy is a good friend of mine and has been for years. I went up to see him, and we finished up having lunch. "Inevitably the subject of football came up, and he's still a bit sore about what happened at Newcastle. He would like to get back in and I would like an investor, so the two fit in. "We had lunch and agreed to keep in touch, and that's it. He hasn't made a sensational swoop and talks are not now at an advanced stage. "It's early discussions that's all, and Leeds United is not for sale." Staying put Bates is confident about the future of Leeds and he intends to be at the helm. "The hard work has now been done, all of the rubbish is out of the way, and the club is back on track," he continued. "The real league table shows we are two points clear at the top, or will be when we get our 15 points back. "The club is in profit, the gates are back and we have averages higher than Middlesbrough, Wigan, Reading and Fulham. "The ground is slowly being improved and the team is strong. Why would I want to sell? "After two years of hard work and three months of absolute hell, we can talk about football. "Freddy is a wise old man - although he's younger than me - he's experienced and he would be an ideal partner, but it's gossip. I'm here for the long haul." |

| Interesting news indeed. Ken and Freddy in partnership! All we need next is Sam Hamman and it would be the Three Wise Men!

| Leeds keen to retain strikers In-form Kandol and Beckford offered deals By James Pearson Last updated: 12th September 2007 Kandol: Four league goalsLeeds United have moved to reward Tresor Kandol and Jermaine Beckford for their superb starts to the season with new contracts. The Whites lost the likes of David Healy, Robbie Blake and Richard Cresswell over the summer, however, Kandol and Beckford have filled the void with seven League One goals between them. Kandol is tied to Leeds until the end of the 2009/10 season, while Beckford is contracted to the club until next summer. However, manager Dennis Wise wants to reward his strike force with new deals with an eye on retaining the pair come the January transfer window. "We needed to get the (transfer) window out the way first, but it was always on my mind," said Wise on losing either of his in-form strikers. "They both love it here and they want to stay here so I told the club to sort them out and look after them. I want them to have new contracts. They deserve it. "When players perform well it's only right that the manager says 'you should rip that up and have a new contract'." Good stuff from the powers that be - they have certainly been bang in form and Kandol after getting a lot of stick last year is winning the crowd over. Long may it continue.

Rovers trio Craig Disley, Andy Williams and Lewis Haldane were off target with headers before Tresor Kandol converted David Prutton's cross on 77 minutes. Beckford's overhead kick made it 3-0 as Leeds scored their first points after wiping out a 15-point penalty.

| From the Bristol Press Credit must also go to the 1,195 Leeds fans who travelled down from Yorkshire and sang their hearts out for the whole game. Bristol City fans, Yeovil Town fans, Swindon Town fans and others with plenty to shout about have all been at the Memorial Stadium in recent years, but Leeds' supporters put them all to shame tonight with a real lesson in how to support your club on the road. A lot has been written and said about Leeds, but if their fans travel and sing like they did tonight, they have as much chance as anyone else of finishing the season in the top six or even the top two. | 2,000+ Jacks expected on Saturday, should be a cracker. We've won our last 3, twice coming from behind so I'm sure the players will be confident of giving Leeds their first defeat Watch out for #6 Bodde, #26 Anderson and #22 Rangel. Our big weakness is at the back from set pieces and the like. If you come to play football it will be a terrific game as we've been dominating sides regularly getting 60% posession and the like. We won't be coming for a point that's for sure. |

![]() you coming up to Yorkshire yourself 2hcb? if so, then you are likely the witness one of Leed's biggest crowds since relegation from the EPL I imagine will be a great atmosphere and hopefully a good game. At least both fans have one thing in common lol , a hate for the bluebirds

Apparently over 30,000 expected? That could very well be the highest crowd outside the Premiership couldn't it? Actually we have more in common than you think many people in Swansea have Leeds as their second team for some reason, maybe because our colours are the same, lol. Actually now that you mention the Blueturds our away strip this year is blue so remember it's us your playing not them! | |
