Leeds swoop for Motherwell keeper Leeds have signed Scotland youth international keeper Alan Martin on an initial two-year deal from Motherwell. The League One club will pay an undisclosed sum in compensation to Motherwell for the 18-year-old. Glasgow-born Martin expressed a desire to leave Motherwell during the close season, and will provide cover for Casper Ankergren. Martin told Leeds website: "I'm top of the world to be signing for a club like Leeds, and I'm glad it's gone through."

I don't buy this 'Cup Final' stuff. I don't see Leeds as a cup final at all in fact, it's just another game. In fact, given the choice, I would rather take points off a lower half of the table side as it would most likely have a bigger bearing at the end of the season.

I was referring to Chris Kamara, think he's something to do with the panel that selects this type of stuff. He doesn't like the South, for some reason.

i take your point m8, but i can hazard a guess that your biggest home crowd of the season will be when lufc are in town. ok i say cup final, leeds/forest are big scalps in the division, and provide extra motivation for players to beat them defo. and i know you were referring to chris kamara, i was joking u div!!!

Leeds recruit Martin & Huntington

Huntington broke into Newcastle's first team last season

Leeds have signed Scotland youth international keeper Alan Martin from Motherwell and Leeds defender Paul Huntington for undisclosed fees.

Glasgow-born Martin, 18, has signed an initial two-year deal at Elland Road.

He expressed a desire to leave Well during the close season, and will provide cover for Casper Ankergren.

Huntington, 19, had made 11 Premier League appearances for Newcastle, and scored in last season's 3-2 victory at Tottenham in January.


Martin told Leeds' website: "I'm top of the world to be signing for a club like Leeds, and I'm glad it's gone through."

Portuguese left winger Filipe Da Costa became Dennis Wise's third capture on deadline day when he put pen to paper on an initial one-year deal with the club late on Friday night.


Filipe has joined United from Ionokis and joins fellow deadline day signings Paul Huntington and Alan Martin at the club.


However, Gylfi Einarsson, pictured, left the club on Friday evening and is now a free agent.


The Icelandic international parted company with the club after making 25 appearances in almost two years.


The midfielder, who is currently recovering from injury, scored his only goal for the club at Burnley in early 2005 on his second appearance.


He made his debut in January 2005 after originally joining from Lillestrom in November 2004.

United were going in search of a fourth league win in a row against Kevin Blackwell's Luton, and boss Dennis Wise made just one change from the team which won at Nottingham Forest the previous weekend, recalling Andrew Hughes in place of loan man Jamie Clapham.

And Wise's men started brightly, winning a couple of early corners. A penalty appeal was also waved away when Tresor Kandol went down under pressure from Luton defender Chris Coyne.

Luton goalkeeper David Forde was tested for the first time on 10 minutes when Kandol tried his luck with a low shot from distance.

United played the neater football during the opening 20 minutes, and other than a couple of early crosses, Luton's only real opportunity came when David Bell screwed a shot wide of the mark from outside of the box.

The best chance of the half came on 28 minutes when Kandol played a lovely ball to send Jermaine Beckford through on goal, but the striker's finish was wide of the mark.

United were rewarded for their efforts moments before half-time, though, and it was Kandol who got his third goal of the season.

Strike partner Beckford was again the provider and Kandol delivered a good finish to give United a deserved half-time lead.

There was a scare six minutes into the second half when Paul Furlong converted a cross from close range, but the former Birmingham marksman had strayed offside.

United's response was immediate and Kandol was again on the end of a good ball when he fired into the side-netting.

At the other end, Bell tried his luck from distance with a vicious, dipping effort, which flew inches over the bar.

But United continued to look assured and Forde spread himself well to deny Beckford before Luton scrambled away the corner.

Casper Ankergren also made a good save when he got down to a David Edwards shot, fired low through a ruck of players.

The game continued at a good pace and Alan Thompson sent a free-kick wide of the mark before Kandol headed a long throw just wide of the upright.

The visitors had a go in the closing stages, but United were never seriously troubled as they recorded a fourth straight league victory.

The win makes it United's best start to a league season since the 1984/85 season when Eddie Gray was manager.

get the fook in. top day for me. had a £20 double on the horses with some poker winnings, coconut moon 2.20 chester indian trail 3.45 sandown.went to elland road. bobbed out to the bar at 3.40 leeds 0-0, listened to the horses on me mobile. indian trail romps home, then watched game in bar, kandol scores leeds go 1-0 up, and me brother gets the beers in. £400 in me pocket, me team wins and me beer costs nowt.

I didn't see anything outside the ground but with a 2 and a bit hour journey to make I just made a beeline for the car. Inside the ground though there were a few bottles thrown but nothing too bad. Was a really good atmosphere. Typical old style football atmosphere really. Credit to Leeds, I'm not convinced there deserved to be a winner yesterday but they took their chance and we had ours ruled out. Was a bit of a poor game really.

great atmosphere, poor game, good result for leeds, big game next week. hartlepool on form. will it be 5 out of 5??????? will there be 30000 at elland rd? will i be there? will i fook, i cant get out of work, on call all w/end:w all

saw no trouble at all, was having a few beers with some luton boys after the game in leeds city centre. good set of lads to be fair, and brought a few fans as well. fair play to them

Quality start from Leeds, the side seems to have really got it all together with all the stuff that went on through the summer. Promotion is a realistic target now.

My brother made a comment earlier about Sunderland being on 0pts after first 5 games last season and they went on to win the league. Not sure how correct this is but if thats the case Leeds must have some chance with the form they are in.
