Relegated Leeds in administration

Leeds United have been relegated to League One after being deducted 10 points for going into administration.

The 10-point deduction - in accordance with Football League rules - means Leeds will finish the season at the bottom of the Championship.
However, they will not lose any points for the start of their first season in League One in August.

Administrator KPMG has already agreed to sell the club to a newly-formed company led by chairman Ken Bates.

A KPMG statement said: "Shortly after their appointment the joint administrators agreed to sell the business and its assets to a newly formed company.

"This company is called Leeds United Football Club Limited, the directors of which are Ken Bates, Shaun Harvey and Mark Taylor.

"The sale of the club is subject to approval by its creditors, via a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA).

"The creditors' meeting, to consider the CVA, will be held before the end of May. The Football League will also need to approve the sale."
Former Chelsea chairman Bates hailed a new era for the club - but also criticised the old regime for incurring huge debts.

"The action taken brings to an end the financial legacy left by others that we have spent millions of pounds trying to settle," said Bates.
"But the important thing now is not to view this as the end, but the beginning of a new era.

"The financial burden of the past finally pushed the club into administration following the issuing of a winding up petition by HM Revenue & Customs, who will be one of the company's major creditors.

"The other parties who will suffer the biggest financial loss are institutions from which the board arranged funding: Astor Investment Holdings, Krato Trust and Forward Sports Fund who collectively will lose in excess of £22m."

The Football League has confirmed Leeds' 10-point deduction and expressed its disappointment.

"Following confirmation that Leeds United have obtained an administration order, the Football League can confirm that the club has been deducted 10 points from its 2006/07 tally," said head of communications John Nagle.

"Given the recent reduction in the numbers of clubs resorting to formal insolvency proceedings, it is disappointing that Leeds United have had to seek the protection of an administration order.
"Discussions have already begun aimed at establishing how Leeds United intend exiting administration.

"This will have to include complying with the League's insolvency policy under which all 'football debts' must be settled in full."

KPMG revealed Leeds had debts "totalling approximately £35m, with a cash injection of approximately £10m required to continue trading".

I think Hull should lose their next game 12-0 just to rub things in a bit.

I think the events of this week have just shown that the FA don't want to rock the boat when it matters. Boston, in League Two, are planning the same thing as Leeds - no players have been paid since February - in £3m debt, they're just waiting to see which season to get the points deducted in. Of course, this situation virtually gives them the ok as well.

The FA have a 'fit and proper' test for football directors - shouldn't they be using it here? The old Leeds Utd is likely to be wound-up under Ken Bates guidance - how is he 'fit and proper' to be a director of the limited company?

Just read about this on the Beeb website. Doesn't shock me ot be honest. Bates needs to go asap so a new owner can come in and then a new manager to boot as Wise is well out of his depth here. What a sad state of affairs at Elland Road these days.

The Northern Ireland international striker had been named captain until the end of the season in the absence of regular skipper Jonathan Douglas.

Poyet said: "We do not know whether David will play for Leeds again.

"I would not expect the top scorer in European Championship qualification to be playing in League One next season."

Revie's son joins chase for Leeds

The son of legendary Leeds manager Don Revie is lining up a bid to take over the troubled club.

Duncan Revie claims he has financial backing from a Middle East consortium and that his only problem is finding a manager good enough to revive the team.

Also launching a bid is former Leeds director Simon Morris, who plans to build a new 50,000-seater stadium.
The 29-year-old property entrepreneur has tabled a £10m bid and says he will inject a further £25m into the club.

Leeds, who will play third-tier football for the first time in their history next season, went into administration with debts of £35m last Friday.

I don't want to mess about, it has to be getting back to where we were

Duncan Revie

The business was, with the administrators' approval, immediately bought by a new company, Leeds United Football Club Limited, of which Ken Bates is chairman.

But the sale is subject to approval by the club's creditors at a meeting later in May and also by the Football League, while Revie or Morris or other consortia could ambush Bates' plans to resume control of the club.

Revie said: "Ken Bates wants proof of funds but the money is not a problem - my problem is can I recreate my Dad's team and getting the people who can find those players.
"I don't want to mess about, it has to be getting back to where we were.

"Some would say that's a pipe-dream, but when Dad walked into the dressing room when we were in the old second division and changed the strip to all white and said, 'I'm going to make you as great as Real Madrid', that was a pipe-dream, too - except that it happened.

Would Leeds fans like to see this potential takeover?

"We need a structure to identify the players, and a genius as a manager. Sir Alex Ferguson is a genius, Arsene Wenger is a genius. There are football geniuses and that's my challenge, to find one."
Morris, who has an estimated fortune of £69m, said: "Our plans are fully costed and very well financed.
"They offer a great future for Leeds United and the club's fans, allowing us to put the troubles of the past behind it. "Our scheme would also put Leeds where it belongs - at the top of the tree in the north of England for entertainment and urban regeneration."

I'm almost certain he'll join Sanchez at Fulham, he obvioulsy gets the best out of him and its probably the perfect size club for Healy.

Elliott and Moore to leave Leeds

Leeds United pair Hayden Foxe and Robbie Elliott have both been shown the door at Elland Road.

The out-of-contract defenders follow striker Ian Moore out of Elland Road.
Foxe, 29, an ex-Australia international, initially arrived at Leeds on a short-term deal last summer and had his terms extended in January.

Elliott, 33, joined Leeds in pre-season, but opted for a move to Sunderland before arriving at Elland Road at the turn of the year.

spoke to him last week ( hes must be about 16 stone !!! ) plays a lot of golf now.

funny, with the championship bank holiday play-off final coming soon, I remember his goal for palace in extra-time to win it - pretty much cemented george graham buying him for £4m for leeds.

strange thing was,he never got on with o'leary when graham was boss so when he took over he thought the writing was on the wall but O'Leary for some reason ( unknown to hoppy ) took a shine to him.

even growing up as boys he was always a good lad.

Revie's son pushing Leeds buy-out

Duncan Revie, son of legendary Leeds manager Don Revie, will contact Whites chairman Ken Bates on Monday in a bid to push forward his takeover plans.

Revie, who has an estimated personal fortune of £69m, says he has financial backing from a Middle East consortium.
He told the Mail on Sunday "It's time to sit with Ken and push this forward. I intend to ring him Monday. It's best to deal with him face to face."

Bates took Leeds into administration before their final game of the season.

The club, who will play third-tier football for the first time in their history next season, are thought to be around £35m in debt.

The business was bought by a new company, Leeds United Football Club Limited, of which Ken Bates is chairman, immediately after going into administration.

But the sale is subject to approval by the club's creditors at a meeting later in May and also by the Football League, while Revie or other consortia could ambush Bates' plans to resume control of the club.

evie said: "I've been staggered by the reaction of Leeds fans to my interest in taking the club back where we belong.

"I've always said they are the most passionate in the country and they've proved me right."

And last week, he said: "Ken Bates wants proof of funds but the money is not a problem - my problem is can I recreate my Dad's team and getting the people who can find those players.
