Leeds WERE a good squad, but look how that was acheived, by part owning players and paying silly wages.
Sorry Jon, but that shows severe lack of knowledge.

When David O'Learly took over, he played a shitload of youngsters, not Robbie Fowler or over paid used to be quality players, these came later. O'Leary had the balls to play the youngsters, Graham didn't dare and it paid off.

That was the basis of the Leeds team, players like Woodgate, Kewell, Gary Kelly, Ian Harte, Alan Smith and Lee Bowyer, amongst others.

The trouble started when Peter Ridsdale started spending too much money and relying on us finishing 4th for CL. We didn't and it has sent us spiralling out of control.

Leeds will of course be back, but how long is another story. The amount of billionaires getting involved in football, will see teams like Leeds and Forest get back eventually imo.

so who's to blame?

a) peter ridsdale
b) ken bates
c) the players
d) kevin blackwell
e) dennis wise/gus poyet
f) all of the above

personally ultimate blame has got to be with the management. at the end of the day wise was brought in to do a job and failed. so must be shown the door. time for a leeds man to come in.

Why do we have to find someone to blame?

What's happened has happened.

No doubt individuals mentioned in above posts have influenced our current situation but we have just got to get on with and carry on supporting the team what else can we do?

Leeds fans seem to have been in a constant post-mortem since DOL was sacked. It doesn't do any good whatsoever. Sure, I don't like the fact Bates and Wise currently run the club (although if reports are to be believed he'll be selling v soon) but they do.

Wise had Leeds getting results towards the end and if it wasn't for the general bad feeling at the club regarding owenership i think most fans would be extremely disappointed but quietly optimistc about the future. Form from the last 9 games has been WddWWlWlD, not far form playoff form.

Next season will be hard, there's no doubt going to be a huge reorganisation at the club. Almost all the current squad will no doubt go, crowds will drop (again) and we will edge into ever more debt (probably).

But, Wise had a good record at Swindon in this division and had a decent record with millwall, he improved both teams ad gave them reason to be optimistic whilst he was manager. I'd rather have someone else, but, for the time being we're stuck with him.

As for the pitch invaders - you are all scum. Every single one fo you and I would hope you are all banned for life. Thick, stupid silly little boys. You disgraced yourself and the club you 'support'. Leeds legend Eddie Gray, who was commentating as a pundit and who has done more for Leeds United than anyone of you could ever dream of, was appalled by the scene, embarrassed. We can only only apologise to him and his fellow legends and pray that we only recieve a hefty fine and not a points deduction. We do have some of the best fans in the UK, such a shame we are let down by these fcukin imbeciles.

Quote:

I sincerely hope this isn't the case. Lets get relegated with a bit of fcuking dignity and pride, or whatever tiny bit we have left after seeing the club torn apart from outside and in.

Anyway, at least we have a couple of trips to the seaside next year . . . Bournemouth and Brigton anyone?

That's what makes it all seem totally pointless to me.

I promise I will say the same thing should a billionaire ever buy ColU.

There seems to be a little difference between City 8 years ago and Leeds this year.

When we went down to the 3rd division the fans stayed behind the team, we didn't whinge, rip up our season tickets, burn our shirts etc.. We all vowed to support our team no matter what. The crowds never dropped Maine Road was still selling out and the away following was nothing short of stupendous. In 20 years of having a season ticket that was the only season that myself, my brother and close friends never missed one match. It was also the best season I have ever had as a city fan and I do not think we will ever have one like it again.

I can remember standing on a muddy hill behind the nets in york around Christmas time watching us getting beat and slipping into the bottom half of the table, I was thinking it doesn't get much worse than this, and it never did. We went on a good run scraped into the play offs, fluked the semi's with a handball goal. Then the most amazing day at Wembley when we were 2-0 down to Gillingham with time up but we somehow managed to win after ET and pens. (we didn't get home from London until the following weekend but thats another story)
Then we got promoted again the following season.

Leeds fans I dont feel sorry for you because I know you will have a great time next season, its a wonderful league, full of great teams and great places to visit. Just enjoy it and support your team as much as possible.

In some perverse kind of way I am jealous as my friends and I are always hankering back to that season.

I dont blame the fans today inside Elland road - they have a right to show their dissaproval. I'd have laughed if someone had managed to attack Dennis Wise
I agree, Leeds have brilliant fans and always have, every time they have come down to our place you'll get them standing up for hours singing that champions of europe song with thier shirts off....I wish we had fans who would do that when we are losing...

Having said that!.....

It is Dennis Wise, and as that little cnut was almost responsible for the winding up off our club a few years I think he's finally got the karma that was coming to him.....just hope Leeds get rid of the smarmy little twat and they might come back up.

And now, the end is near;
And so I face the final curtain.
My friend, Ill say it clear,
Ill state my case, of which Im certain.

Ive lived a life thats full.
Ive traveled each and evry highway;
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Regrets, Ive had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.

I planned each charted course;
Each careful step along the byway,
But more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Yes, there were times, Im sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew.
But through it all, when there was doubt,
I ate it up and spit it out.
I faced it all and I stood tall;
And did it my way.

Ive loved, Ive laughed and cried.
Ive had my fill; my share of losing.
And now, as tears subside,
I find it all so amusing.

To think I did all that;
And may I say - not in a shy way,
No, oh no not me,
I did it my way.

For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught.
To say the things he truly feels;
And not the words of one who kneels.
The record shows I took the blows -
And did it my way!

On the pitch or in the stands?

Wouldn't be surprised to see some Leeds fans at ours on Saturday - Millwall at home, plenty of history betwen you two.

A shame for West Yorkshire, would have been a money spinner for both of us. Both suffered due to our ex chairmen leaving us in trouble, poor management at the highest levels. Not sure about your financial situation but if you have some kind of stability you'll be back in the Championship within 3 years.

Leeds hold meeting on club future

Leeds United will hold a
board meeting at Elland Road on Monday morning to discuss the future of the club.

Leeds were all-but relegated to League One on Saturday after a 1-1 draw with Ipswich, leaving them three points adrift with only one game left.

The club's second relegation in three years could lead to serious financial implications.

Leeds sold Elland Road and their Thorp Arch training ground in November 2004 to avoid going into administration.

Meanwhile, chairman Ken Bates has given his backing to manager Dennis Wise, despite the expected drop into the third tier of English football.

Wise took over as boss from Kevin Blackwell in October but was unable to halt the club's dip in form.

Bates told the Yorkshire Post: "Dennis has done a much better job than many people realise.

"We were in a much worse position when Dennis came in than people know about.

"Some of the difficulties he inherited cannot be made public but there were real problems in the dressing room. The playing side was in complete disarray." Leeds will be relegated on Sunday unless they score a hatful of goals to beat Derby and Hull City lose at home to Plymouth.

Devil Tish, we've had a shocking season and after going 3-0 down all we could do was laugh at how pathetic our players were. At least you've gone down with a fight and got some good results. We were spineless, lacking commitment and deserved to go down.

I'm only having a bit of banter with the song, hence the wink. I've been getting texts off Leeds fans every time we've lost recently. Sad state of affairs for both sides and rumours about your finances and administration. As a football fan you don't want to see any club fold, even Leeds United. When Rotherham were desperate for cash they had a collection at City for them, don't like them, don't like their fans but didn't want to see them without a club.

I know the majority of decent Leeds fans were ashamed and embarrassed by the pitch invasion on Saturday. Time to get behind your club, go down with dignity and be there next year. I assume Ken Bates will be reducing ticket prices if he stays as £35 for a league 1 game will not bring the crowds in.

Out of interest why do you support Leeds if you are from Bradford? Surely no one would want to move here.

Leeds will get back up no doubt altho it took us 3 years, we are now a better club & i am sure Leeds will do the same.

ok, CL semi's in 2001, we went down to Lge 1 in 2001 after being Londons top club in 1995. How the mighty fall.

Peter Ridsdale used to pay £120k a year just for the fish to be looked after !!!!!!
