Sad day for Leeds, that is pretty much that now.

Bates tended to get away with rash sackings of a manager at Chelsea, but at Leeds its all gone tits up for him.

I hope Leeds can bounce back straight away, they are a big club and don't belong in League One. Its hard to see Denis Wise at the club next season, he has had a very long time to turn things around and has failed.

Leeds 1-1 Ipswich

Ipswich's late equaliser has virtually relegated Leeds, who trail Hull by three points and have a vastly inferior goal difference with one game to play.
It is still mathematically possible for Leeds to stay up, but they would need to win their last game by at least eight goals, and for Hull to lose.
Richard Cresswell opened the scoring for Leeds but Alan Lee glanced in a header on 88 minutes to cancel it out.
A pitch invasion and 30-minute delay followed before the match could finish. Referee Michael Jones had led the players from the field with several minutes of time added on still to play. And when the players came back onto the field to see out the game, referee Jones blew for full-time within a minute and promptly sprinted for the tunnel.

Surprised the ref brought them back out tbh, especially after hearing what Magilton had to say:

Ipswich manager Jim Magilton:
"It was a shambolic but brave decision to come back out.

"I was involved in something similar at West Ham when the game was called off. This one should have been called off. "It was a poor decision. The players were worried about going back out. If any of them had got hurt, I would have been knocking on the referee's door."

Sorry if this decends into an over the top rant and apologies to Leeds fans on here. Particularly Meatman who I have met on a couple of occassions at PL meets but today has made my day. Really sorry to gloat and take satisfaction for what has happened

Having grown up supporting Spurs in a predominately Leeds supporting area, being bullied at school for it... I will not be sheding a tear tonight. As daft as this sounds coming from a Spurs fan, I probably dislike Leeds (hate is a very strong word) than Arsenal. I think that due to where I live.

The fans today were a disgrace, I've just got a text from a mate who is a Leeds fan who went today and walked out as soon as the pitch invasion started. Throughout the O'Leary era Leeds were very arrogant and often said they were "the next Man Utd" and that the "naughties" would be dominated by Leeds.

That's enough from me, I apologise now if I've offended anyone..... sorry. The MAJORITY of Leeds fans are die-hards and I feel sorry for those

Will things get worse now? What are the finances like? My dad has a colleague who is a Leeds fan who thinks that they were awaiting to see their fate and could possibly go in to a CVA now? That would be a 10 point penalty?

hhhhmmmmmmmm of course I know your story Punto you've taken some abuse over the years lol, fair enough for the rant.

It's a sad time, at my cricket match I know of 3 guys who have had Leeds stickers on their cars since Ive knowen them - but now ripped off in disgust. Someone burned their scarf and shirt on a fire in their garden

I dont blame the fans today inside Elland road - they have a right to show their dissaproval. I'd have laughed if someone had managed to attack Dennis Wise . I'm glad it is over this week so that the fans had this chance.

I cant see things betting better - a lot of interest will be lost now. Who wants to be associated with a team like us now eh? The fanbase is potentially massive, but could get small now. A lot of fans were lost when we were relegated from the Prem, so even more might perhaps go now? The simple fact is who really wants to be paying (probably) high ticket prices for league 1 football? not me thank you very much lol. Attendances must fall even lower surely.

I really dont know what the future holds for the club, at the moment I'm not so bothered and my expectation aint that much. I had expected this relegation for a few weeks now anyway so it isn't a surprise. Maybe youth can propel us forward, who knows anymore.

It's a real shame for something to happen such a prestigous big city and club, but It's happened. The whole situation is a complete disgrace. A period of regeneration is now needed, a long process I'd guess.

some have said we are properly in the grave now

if so then RIP Leeds united

So sad, even for me. Couldnt believe a team that played CL semis 6 years ago would relegate to 3rd division and all i see its another Nottingham Forrest-like fall down.

Got to agree, more of a Leeds rugby league lad than football, but no comeback now, though i think it's been coming for a while.

The top tier of managment has been flawed for a long time now and can only hope they can sort it out next season.

Agreed mate. fella on my street has had a season ticket for 20 year, gave it up last summer and hasn't been to a game since the play off final Feel sorry for fella's like that, if it was to my club I'd be distraught. They are potentially a massive club. Man City did it, can Leeds?

If enough of your fans feel the same way then your last statement could well be true. I thought you Yorkshiremen were made of sterner stuff!

I'm surprised by this post Meaty and I'll put it down to the massive disappointment you must be feeling, but if this is the end of your club then it is because of the glory-hunting nature of your fans as much as the person who currently owns the club.

What chance for the rest of us 'poor relations' in League One?

Being a fan of one of the little teams nothing makes me laugh harder than when the big boys get a bloody nose and then they xtart crying about it.

You should spend half an hour talking to Jaded about Wrexham's disgraceful off field situation and woeful on field situation and you will see the real meaning of a club in danger of having R.I.P. as a suffix.

Everyone's the same really, big club or small are laughing at us now. You say bloody nose, I think the last few years in Leeds have been a bit more than that

Reading this brought a tear to my eye. Then it dawned on me it was about Leeds and all I could do was .

Try supporting a club in real trouble whose fans fight tooth and nail every day just to keep it afloat. They are the clubs who deserve sympathy and respect.

The end of Leeds Utd? I hope so for no other reason than to stop having to hear about this big club bollocks when in reality all they are now is a 3rd division club going nowhere.

depends how you determine a big club tbh

If you decide by what league you are in etc etc, then yes Leeds are no bigger club than someone like say Hartlepool

But we all know it's not just about that is it. Stadium, Facilities, Fanbase, Past ahchivements, reputation etc etc

If Notts Forest get promoted then there will be no other club in league 1 next season who teams will want to beat more. hhmmmmmmm I wonder why that is eh

As a galatasaray fan; we have no good history in the past with leeds united but it doesnt mean we have to hate them or they have to.and when i saw this bad news;i was really sad for old rival. It is a sad day - Leeds is a big club and has many supporters in the world. hopefully 1 day we will see them regain their former greatness.

I could give you a few reasons but you've heard them all before!!

As for big clubs, a big club is a club that has success over a sustained period of time, who are managed well so that they will never be in jeopardy and who if they are in trouble can rely on their fanbase to keep them going. Your earlier post suggests that's not Leeds.

Just be reading they old papers today,

All have mentioned that Leeds were in the Champ League 6 years ago and that this was a big shock.

Now I,ve followed leeds and TBH this was not a shock, The Team could only go backwards with no money and crippling debt. We had to sell r players and rebuild. The team that made the Playoff final last year, most of the team was sold (all the younger players)

Tight ass bates comes in sacks a perfectly good manager and brings in Dennis fecken wise.

I think the Leeds supporters who r surprised by this need to open there eyes and live in the real world.

Leeds WERE a good squad, but look how that was acheived, by part owning players and paying silly wages.

Time for a rebuild, bit like Man City, start again and c what happens, but i think the days of 'Mighty' leeds will be gone for a long long time.
