Default If the 2012 Olympics were tomorrow - name the GB side

Any non England player apart from Giggs???

I say that we should have a "Home Nations" tournament in advance of any olympics, and the winning nation is allowed to represent GB - that way, we get the fun of a home nations tournament before watching England in the Olympics

What exactly are the rules for who can be selected in the Olympics, isn't it under-23 or something? It's not the normal full strength teams is it?

Gabby Heinze played for Argentina is he is over 23.....not sure really.

But good idea of a tournament in order to determine who represents GB!

Regarding the U-23s' (u-19,u-21 etc.) I think that you ar allowed 1 or 2 over-age players. I think Chris Sutton was selected for the u-21s when he was older, which led (in part) to his falling out with Hoddle(?).

My choice.

er....

what about...

or...

:o

sorry.

Ignoring the Under-23 rule, and just picking a GB side on merit This is who I'd go for:

Possibly from NI:
No-one except for maybe Roy Carroll just to get a token Irish fella in there

Possibly from Wales:
Giggs
Bellamy
Davies
Delaney

Possibly From Scotland:
Fletcher

Rest from England.

Lennart Johannson or Sepp Blatter have stated today that a GB side will take part in the 2012 Olympics.

I favour the idea of a Home Championship decider and the winner represent GB. If there is an U-23 rule, then it'll be this years trainees (16/17 yrs old) who get the honour.

Giggs is toilet these days imo. Not the player he was by a long stretch and I couldn't have him in the GB side - even had a MU fan agreeing with that in the pub tnight.

If Olympics were today, just going with under 23's then my team would be:

Carson
Johnson
Warnock
A Ferdinand
Dawson
Wright-Phillips
S Downing
D Fletcher
J Cole
W Rooney
J Defoe

Subs include Richardson, Bent, Taylor, Routledge

my two Over age players probly would have beenTerry & owen

Giggs is better than Joe Cole will ever be........he may not be as good as he used to be, but he would do a good job on the left hand side (something which England DO NOT have!)

I've always thought football in the Olympics a joke tbh. We've got the World Cup why bother with it in the Olympics ?

But if it's going to be done and we're going to have a GB team then it's got to be a qualification tournament between the home nations to decide which team earns the right to represent the country. There's no point just picking an even number of the best players from each of the countries and then trying to chuck them together in a team. They'd be crap imo. And there's no point trying to supposedly pick the "best" players from each of the home countries either as man for man it's obvious England have the best players but football is a team sport and as N Ireland showed last night a man-for-man comparison can sometimes mean diddly-squat. At least if a qualification tournament is played the different fans from all the home countries will feel their team had a fair crap of the whip and will be far more likely to get behind the team that finally plays.
