Default Goodbye Peter Reid?

Well, it looks like Reidy could be heading to the local DHSS office on Monday morning - 5-1 Portsmouth with 80 minutes gone

Does anyone know of a bookie still offering odds on his dismissal?

Cheers, BA

Could Leeds afford to sack Reid? There'll be compensation to pay and they don't have a pot to piss in. I can't think of anyone better than Reid queuing up to take that job.

Just got back from the game, oh my god, Leeds are the worst team i have ever seen, and i have been watching a stuggling div 1 team for the last 10 years

I'm in a state of shock to how poor they are to be honest, unbeleiveable, when it got to 6-1 i must abit i felt embarrased at getting excited anymore it was so easy

on the plane the other day i was reading a french sports magazine (it was either that or read the leaflet about what to do when you hit the planet from 6 miles up!!). the magazine had an article about football contracts etc in europe (comparing how teams deal with and pay their players etc). i mention this because it stated that currently leeds are still paying the contracts of three managers (the present manager and two previous) as well as four players that have left the club. the only precise details it gave was that fowler will be paid by leeds until 2005, even though his is playing for and being paid by man city. what i wanted to know is are there any leeds fans (or football fans in gengeral) who can confirm that this is actually the case.

6/1 - I guess some bookmakers really are mad!

The more I think about it, though, I can't think of anyone in their right mind wanting to take over the job - I suppose there's always the unemployed likes of Robson, Hoddle, Graham and so on but I doubt the Leeds fans would be appeased by such an appointment.

If someone can think of a genuine contender with a proven track record of managing clubs with little to no money AND would see the move to Leeds as a career boost - I'm guessing such a man could only come from the lower leagues - this could be quite a value bet

Reid is not 6/1 to get sacked trust me!

When Gettinlots said "it is now 6-1" he was talking about the score, not the odds

Default Paul Hart

I reckon they will go for our Manager Paul Hart now. :x

I think he will take it as well. With Forest struggling with Johnson out and the Forest board refusing Hart for transfer money unless we are in the top 6.

What are the odds on Hart being the next Manager of Leeds?

Default reid

reid should be sacked, i know in terms of a squad he's down to the bare bones but leeds have actually got a fairly decent first 11.

look at some of the side that was out on saturday:

robinson (england quality)
Duberry (once tipped for england)
Matteo (used to be a quality player)
Pennant (tipped for england at one point)
Morris (ditto)
Roque junior (world cup winner for fcuks sake!)
Johnson (Once tipped for england)
Smith (would be an england regular if he wasnt so nasty)

Fair enough morale is as low as possible but that is where reid should be earning his 800k a year. If he cant lift the players and get some sort of performance out of this lot then IMO he really deserves to be sacked.

although leeds going down and going bankrupt would suit me just fine

I think the tag 'World Cup winner' is the only thing Roque Junior can be proud of, he blatently doesn't give a shite about Leeds, i guess you can say the same of all the loan signings this season. Michael Duberry, as far as i can remember, has NEVER been any good. Jody Morris seems to be happier assaulting women than goalmouths. As Reid himself said, only Smith and Matteo really givve a toss about the club.

thats true swampster, but reid is responsible for the poor loan signings, he is also responsible for getting the best out of the players and making them respond to his leadership.

My point is there is still some talent at the club and reid trotting out the old 'we must show more desire' after every game is wearing thin, he did exactly the same at sunderland.

Fair enough, he cant control what happens once the game has started but if his players arent showing any desire or passion then IMO he must shoulder the blame.

Default Reid

I actually feel quite sorry for Peter Reid. He did a fantastic job at Sunderland and took them as far as he could. He took on Leeds when nobody else was brave enough and now hes slated for leaving Leeds in a state.

I hate Leeds Utd if I'm honest but I'm always saddened when a club looks like going to the wall and it looks like Leeds will. Clubs are about business now and not football and I know its the nature of the game these days but the ITV digital collapse and the Sky situation as it stands means that the money will not be there very long.

Leeds problems start and end with the board. They are now feeling the effects of Ridsdale and co and still paying the wages of ex-managers and players. I dont think Reid is the problem - he can only do so much and when the chairman holds a meeting about whether or not he should keep his job in front of all and sundry in a hotel lobby if I was him I'd be relieved I was out of it.

Default Re: Reid

Peter Reid stopped being a good manager and should have been out of Sunderland about a couple of seasons before he did go.

At Sunderland he did very well at the outset and built a decent side. Signings such as Kevin Phillips for £350k were excellent. But you can only go and pluck signings from the lower divisions and expect them to compete in the Premier League so many times before it will blow up in your face. The EPL moved up another level, clubs started bringing in better players and the Craddocks and Summerbee's which did a good job originally were now out of their depth.

Sunderland were pulling in big crowds though, selling lots of season tickets and every summer the rumours would start - Scholes, Butt, Parlour, etc etc - "Were going to make a BIG signing" - but it never happened.

My opinion on this - Reid was scared to spend big money in the transfer market. He had done so at Man City, buying players like Curle and Phelan for £3m or so (a lot at the time). And got his fingers burnt badly. He was now scared to spend big and Sunderland suffered. There was no way he could keep them in the EPL with his spending policy and it was inevitable they would go down.

His last act was desperate in that he did spend the money - but on Tore Andre Flo (£6m - thats about £5.75m too much), Stewart, Piper etc. A panic move and too late to help Sunderland. Not good management.

Sunderland then made an even bigger pigs ear of it by appointing Wilkinson but thats another story.

So in he comes at Leeds and "keeps them up" - not hard considering one of the sides below them, and the worst in the history of the EPL, was his Sunderland team. Another was WBA who had came up on the back of 1-0 wins in Div 1, that was never going to save you in the EPL. And West Ham, who went down I don't know how.

Now it seems he is the best choice for the Leeds job full time, remember he was only caretaking there and had no chance to keep it, until Leeds couldn't find anyone else. As I said, he had a good record of making a lot out of not much in the way or money. But he had that reputation about 3 years ago and as I said, the league has moved up another level since then.

To be honest if players such as they load he brought in on loan or free (Roque Junior, Domi, Olembe, Sakho, Morris, Camara) are not good enough to play in their own sides they are currently with then why should they suddenly become good players in a struggling EPL club. Not a chance.

These players are only shipped out because another club wants them off their wage bill and knows there is no chance of them getting a fee for them. If there was any chance or if they were actually suitable first team players then no team is going to let them go out on loan and miss their services themselves.

In summary Leeds are in a massive mess financially. I was going to say it may be better for them to go down to come back up but I don't know how that would help them. But Peter Reid was never the manager to get them out of this hole. 3 or 4 season ago he might have been but when Chelsea are briniging in Crespo, Mutu and Makelele and your bringing in Jody Morris and Roque Junior then you don't stand a chance, Leeds never did with Reid and Reid never stood a chance of doing anything with Leeds. He shouldn't work in the EPL again, maybe someone like Rotherham is his level now.

He's gone according to the BBC:

The Observer yesterday also thought Paul Hart would get the job. No market up on Betfair yet - they will probably wait till an official announcement is made.
