Just watching Sky Sports news Gett1n, fee has been agreed and everything.

Will David James stop then leaking goals? He's decent keeper in his own right, but i feel he needs a very strong back four in front of him to stop himself being abit of a liability.

I bet David Seaman is pissed off.

First Calamity kicks him out of the England side and I doubt old pony tail will get back in the City side now?

Manchester City goalkeeper, David Seaman has announced his retirement from the game ending an illustrious career that spanned over twenty years in the game.
David Seaman has today announced his retirement from football. The forty-year-old has suffered a recurring shoulder problem and was substituted in the defeat at Portsmouth on Saturday after just thirteen minutes.

"I have reached this difficult decision after much discussion with my family and those in the game whose views I respect," he said.

"It has become clear to me that this type of injury will not quickly disappear and I think now would be a good time to hang up my boots, rather than at the end of the season as planned."

"I believe I have had a fantastic career playing at the highest level."

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those people who have stood by me and supported my career, especially during the tough times, the players who I will miss for their professionalism and friendship and the fans who have inspired my enthusiasm for the game."

The keeper, who was awarded the MBE and won seventy-five England caps also had a good luck message for his successor, David James.

"After deciding to retire it was a pleasure to recommend David James - so I know the position is in safe hands."

"I wish him all the best. He is joining a great club with a first class manager in Kevin Keegan and a great squad."

"I am looking forward to getting the shoulder better in order to explore potential goalkeeper coaching opportunities."

Kevin Keegan secured the former Arsenal keepers signature on a year's contract in July. He made twenty-six League and Cup appearances for City.

"This has been a difficult decision for David but I fully respect it. It says a lot about the man that he has been incredibly helpful to us as a club in finding a successor at such a testing personal time for him," said Kevin Keegan

"His record is incredible and his achievements unbelievable but most importantly I will remember him as an ultimate professional who cared about others."

"I wish him and his family all the success in the world in the future," concluded the boss.

Do not apologise Keemanan.

A good save in Euro 96 - but to my mind was never a great keeper in the mould of Shilton or Banks.

He did ok during a poor time for English keepers.

I am sorry as well if I offend on the next point.

Any bloke who leaves his wife and kids (he does have kids doesn't he?) and grows a ponytail in his late thirties smacks of being a cnut as well.

Without a doubt in my mind Tosh.

My son (10 years old bless him) is a Liverpool fan (FOOL).

I take him to Anfield every so often.

Kirkland, IMO, is going to be a class act.

So David becomes the most recent in a line of Arsenal greats who move on to lesser clubs after their sell by date, play a handful of games and then concede defeat to injury. Bouldy and Davis came home so lets hope there is still an opening for big Dave.

From 1990 - 1999, he was far and away the best English keeper. He let in the odd daft goal here and there ( Nayim, Ronaldinho), but he was key in Arsenal's success in Europe, and England's success in Euro 96.

My favourite Seaman season was his first ( I was a Lukic fan who resented Dave's arrival). He was truly magnificent and the best keeper we ever had.

Unfortunately he's gone the way we hoped he would'nt.
I was saying, along with others, when he signed for Man City, that this was the biggest boob of his career. Why oh why, didn't someone close, say to him; "go now, at the top of your career"?

Having moved his family up north and convincing himself that he would be there for the Euro 04 Championships, (for that is why he went to MC, slightly mercanary I think) only for the injury that has dogged him for the last few years to raise it's ugly head again.

I'm sorry Dave that it ended this way, but surley, you could see things woul'nt be all plain sailing.

Thanks for the memories and for being Arsenals best ever.
