Quote:
ARSENE WENGER told Alex Hleb: “You’re not leaving Arsenal.”
Boss Wenger vowed to take Hleb to court to stop him buying out his contract and joining Inter Milan.
And that could mean Hleb is out of action for months as Wenger fights to keep him.
Wenger says no one will follow AC Milan-bound Mathieu Flamini out of the door.
He said: “I am confident of keeping Hleb. Nobody goes. It’s that simple. It’s about what is good for the club.”
Hleb’s agent claimed he would buy out his contract for £3million.
Wenger added: “You can’t come in the next day and buy it out.
“You may have to go to court and can be banned if it’s not done right. It takes months.”

I can understand that Wenger's frustrated and credit to him for trying to stand up to any underhand deals that have come from Inter's direction but wouldnt it be better just to let him go? We are in danger of keeping an unhappy player who whilst very pretty to watch, doesnt have an awful amount of end product. I would honestly place him 2nd behind Ronaldo in the most skillful players in the Premier League but with 3 goals this year and 11 goals in 3 years from an attacking midfielder isnt a great return.

He's replaceable, get rid.

We seem to have this conversation at the end of every season. Why can't Arsenal keep players? They're reasonably succesful, good crowds and support, good wages, but they seem to lose one of their best players every year.

Whe he's been on his game then he has been one of our best players no question. Trouble is that only happens once in a blue moon when Jupiter is in Saturn

Agreed, get rid

We're still not a big enough name across Europe I suppose. Its disappointing though, especially when we're potentially on the verge of something very big with the side we've got.

How many players leave Arsenal and go onto better things - Vieira - no, Henry - no, Overmars and Petit? No.

Depends how you define better things, Juve and Barca are both massive clubs.

Paddy Vieira is just about to win his second italian league titel on the trot with Inter, whilst Arsenal have won what the last few years ??

The otehr fella haven't won much, but I don't think you can say playing at the Nou Camp for barca is a step down from an Arsenal that isn't loaded with Silverware recently

I was talking trophy's and for some reason thought Vieira was still at Juve so fair point with him. Henry, Overmars and Petit all flopped at Barcelona.

I suppose what I was saying is that are AC Milan in a better position to win trophies than us next year? Not really, so it comes down to the prestige of playing for a big name. And a few euros of course

Loyalty is long gone. Even when players claim to love the club. Gerrard sagas, Rooney leaving Everton etc etc.

Flamini was well within his rights to leave Arsenal, contract was up etc etc. Hleb has 2 years left on his deal, its a fcuking joke that he could buy it out and move.

No club wants to keep an unhappy player though, but they should be well within their rights to negotiate a proper fee for him when he has 2 years of his deal left.

If Hleb starts being a cnut I hope Wenger sticks him in the reserves and ruins his career. Send him to train with the youth team.

Problem is stupid FIFA rules, he can just buy out his deal. He's 27 now at at peak of his career, not like he was ever likely to get a move to likes of sides he has been linked with prior to Arsenal.

I think it was Webster who was stuck in limbo for ages with that FIFA rule when it took ages to sort out, so it doesn't look like its that cut and dry for a player to buy out. Either way its a bloody stupid rule imo, why even have a contract that long to begin with.

you have to be over 28 to be able to buy out your contract when there's 2 years left on it as far as I know. Hleb has just turned 27.

This ruling in fact has established an addendum to Article 17 allowing a player who is between the ages of 23 and 28 to move in the final year of a four or five year contract provided he hands in a request to the club no more than 15 days after the end of the previous season. The club would be entitled to compensation, but only equalling the amount of the final year's wages as per the contract. In most cases that would be far less than an agreed transfer fee. In addition, the player would have to move to a club that was not in the same association as his current club. Players who are older then 28 are only required to fulfill two years on a contract no matter the length of the contract. At such a point they can opt out of the rest of their contract by paying the remainder owed to them to the club they are under contract to.
that's from wikipedia

Cheers A-Team for clearing that up I think the papers are as lost as me with this, but from what you've shown Hleb can't buy out his deal. So just how many papers and press sites have said he was going to?

No one seems able to now explain the offside rule, looks like this one is another to add to that. Thanks Blatter, your making football so much better I must say. Fcuking prick.

Everyone has this sentiment at some stage about one of their players, but it never happens does it? Too much money involved.

I hope with Berbatov that Tottenham hold out for £25m+ so he can fulfill his "dream" of playing in the CL. I suppose he could have stayed in Germany with Leverkeusen where he has already played in the CL final, but I believe it was a "dream" to play in the premiership.

got talking to group of Barca fans before the Semi Final
Had a few bevvies with them one could talk pretty good
English. They just don't rate Henry at all...

I always think that whoever they are however big a name they are
if they don't want to play for you then
fcuk off
no one is bigger than the club
you are better off having players who will run their guts
out for the club than some prima donna who thinks he is
better than he his.
Inflated ego

if they want to go then get rid

there is always another so called star around the corner.
