Another though has just occurred to me, hasn't every european final Rangers has ever played in been against russian opposition, and didn't it end badly in a riot last time too.

They rioted in 72 when they played Dynamo Moscow (I think) in Barcelona. The rangers manager at the time came out and slammed the fans. I think even today they are the only side to win a European trophy and werent presented with the trohpy on the pitch. It had to be done in the dressing room. This whole incident led to Rangers being banned from Europe for a season. Wouldnt surprise me if the same type of action takes place here. They've been wanred in the past about their conduct with incidents regarding their supporters arising in each of the past 3 years. Surely heavy handed policing cant be to blame EVERY time. You wonder how much UEFA are willing to take?

in relation, to the COMPLETELY unrelated scotland-england theme, i think englands a good side, but is very over-rated as JJ says. think that is somewhat to do with your club sides too, and how successful they are, integrated with a FEW english players.
on the world stage its very hard to compete though, when your playing off against countries who have 10 times the population, the players are not majorly and utterly over-pampered when they reach anywhere near decent at football, and that can train in the sun for 12+ hours in the day, 365 days a year.

Cheers mate, yeah I might pis$ iff some Rangers fans cause I say stuff they do not want to here but I also applauded the ones who turned up to show respect for Tommy Burns. I also, as you pointed out, have never used bigotry or secteranism in my posts, and I have also refrained from calling Rangers fans 'hu*s' due to not offend alexmac. I think him calling me the 'cnut' was well out of order also, but I am not going to hold grudges and I'll move on and hopefully continue to have some freindly banter with the rest of you

I'd actually love it if the police decided to go on strike for every football match then that would be the end of football in the UK ,most police would never want to be on duty then anyway as it's taking police off the streets to go after peadophiles,child abusers and other criminals that are out there.

I know where you're coming form Sharpie but my local copper mates used to love being on matchday duty (and that includes Stoke ) because around here it was generally well paid and counted as over-time, so if they weren't doing that they'd be in the pub or at a game themselves.

By and large I support the police but that is because of my personal experiences with them, however if you've experienced some of the things that Matt mentioned then you can understand that attitude too. I know I'd be annoyed with the comments by my mates if I was in the force, even though I'd know they weren't being directed at me.

Absolulty disgraceful scenes....

I think it is even clear from this footage why some policemen lose their temper and professionalism and go a bit 'heavy handed' at times, in situations such as this when they are being attacked, they have no option.

Im sure most of the decent Rangers fans would even not condone this.

Nope, I'm not forced to read this, I chose to. The way I see it what you are doing is enjoying slating Rangers fans rather than identifying a problem. But hey, maybe posting links to video footage of riots is the way to go, I don't know. My two cents about Scotland's reputation is that Scots, at least in my country, are considered as friendly and very loyal supporters who enjoy thaving a beer and party instead of figthing, right or not. I doubt that this image will be destroyed, these riots were barely mentioned on the news in Sweden. Apart from that I don't think that the common man is stupid enough to mix up a few hundred rioting fans with thousands and thousands of friendly fans. At least I hope this is the case

G:G I am not slating Rangers, I am slating the mindless fans involved in these running battles with Manchesters Police force. I am slo indentifying the problem these riots etc we have seen on tv = the problem, its simply unacceptable.

Maybe in Sweden Scotlands good reputation has not been tarnished by this, however I have heard this has hit the news in other countries such as the USA and OZ. I still think most countries have high opinions of the Scots, my concern is that if behaviour like this continues, our reputation will be dragged to the gutters.

If you look at the name of this thread and the first post by the fella who created it, its about Scotlands reputation diminishing because of embarrassing nights such as these.

Sounds bad, but I think that this sort of thing would have happened with any big club given the circumstances.

The event was poorly organised. Encouraging so many fans down (via the big screens), and also encouraging drinking (via relaxing of street drinking laws) and not enough police was a disaster.

Every club has it's dickhead element and for them it was easy to incite trouble.

If the beamback was in Glasgow I am sure there would have been no problems.

Not a dig at Rangers in any way shape or form, however there was a beamback in Glasgow (to Ibrox) and there were 17 arrests made outside and inside the stadium

Ok, my impression was that you were really enjoying this situation, maybe I'm wrong excuse me if so, only you know the answer to that. I think it will take years and years of rioting before the good reputation you Scots have will be ruined, at least here in Sweden, and I really do think people all over the world can think for themselves and make up their own minds, I may be naive, but thats my belief. Usa? What the hell do they know about anything football related anyway? Who cares.

2 different folk I work with where at Ibrox on wed night and said they where embarresed to be rangers supporters - there was mayhem uphere also, and that was merely a beamback.

Club and country are very different things in terms of support these days. Well outside of England anyway, where they boo players because of who they play for, like Crouch booed at Old Trafford, and flip side Gary Neville booed at Anfield when England played.

Northern Ireland fans are immense these days, last 2 tournaments have been a dream, a new experience in all my years of supporting them. Atmosphere like nowt I have experienced before, and all that in a tiny Windsor Park stadium Our fans are no angels, take it back to club level and Linfield and Glentoran men have had plenty of problems, among others. Wouldn't amaze me if some NI folk were involved the other night, tbh I'd be surprised if they weren't.

Get it on a national level and Scotland fans are amazing as well. Plenty of Rangers and Celtic men running around together and impeccably behaved, and also created brilliant atmospheres.

Club level is very different. Seems idiots get more of a chance to shine there. Any club of a decent size has them, Rangers idiots had a field day the other night.

On the subject of the "was it all rangers fans? etc" I know two lads who went up there to support Rangers and they both said there quite quite a few people from all over the UK, so I'd be inclined to agree that whilst no doubt heavily involved, there was some outside influence. But people should expect that anyway, a lot of Chelsea fans etc will support Rangers as thier second team...
