Default Beckham & L A Galaxy

I think that potentially in the US soccer could be as big as everywhere else in the world

David Beckham

What utter rubbish but then I guess he has to say that. How many times have American clubs bought overseas players in the hope it kick starts football ( sorry soccer ) in their country.

Basketball, Gridiron, Baseball and Ice Hockey will always be one step ahead...........

Been sick of listening to this story on Sky Sports News past couple of days.

BREAKING NEWS: Beckams flight to US delayed by an hour.

Thanks. Now what about the real footy stories.

Came to admire Beckham more after the NI - England game at Windsor, but this is way OTT. Even for Sky.

Reporter: So David why did you join LA Galaxy

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I wonder. 125 million reasons why!

I was talking about htis today with my old man and Ive said it before on here, even before all this media crap with Becks -The USA could potentially be the best nation on the planet for football/soccer.

ICan imagine them in the next 10 years having the type of squad to beat your Brazil/Italy/Germany/France teams for a world cup.

Brazil and Mexico from yesteryear have been great teams and can you imagine those teams with the financial backing of a country like the states

Good luck to Becks. Doesn't owe anyone anything and if someone wants to offer him a fortune good luck to him. Model pro and hope he's successful in the US.

Cant stand the bloke still, to be honest the PR he seeks with his Mrs makes me sick....

Football will never take off in the US, they are to imbedded in thier own sporting calender to fit football in.....

USA soccer - who cares - its all a bit panto really.

Beckham is already well minted and I'm sure he wish he has waited a bit and took the new deal he would hve got at Mardid before the move. I'm sure he can keep LA Galaxy off the foot of the conference and ignite the home depot centre crowd.

They told him he wasn't going to get a new deal though didn't they? Their loss. I'm sure if they'd kept their gob shut he'd still be there now.

absolutely!

he could've thrown his toys out of his pram when he was basically shown the door at Madrid, did he sulk? did he fcuk. He worked hard and got back into the side after being told he'd never play again for Madrid, only to get a championship medal, good for him I say.

If he ever came back to United as the opposition.
I for one would show the guy the RESPECT he deserves.
he did us proud as a United player.
and he he's never slagged United off since leaving.

it was the circus that went with him + his missus
that was the problem.
but
DAVID BECKHAM = RESPECT

I think those saying that Football will never be big in the US, are a bit behind the times in terms of the ethnic changes in the US, esp in the south west and large east coast cities.

The huge population influxes from central and south america are creating a new generation of football fans in the US, people that feel marginalised from mainstream white america.

20,000 is pretty average for MLS games, I've been to 2 or 3 of them in California, people aren't stupid at the games, they know their football.

As for Beckham, I'm pretty much in agreement with Ralphie. Good solid palyer that has always worked hard, made the most of his skills. No Paul Scholes to be sure, but best of luck to the fella

Beckham media image is all about extremes. When people were saying he was the best player in the world I was saying, 'no he isnt hes a decent player who cant do much but he does it well'. Then people changed their minds and thought he was shit and lennon (ffs) or SWP should play instead of him and I still thought exactly the same thing.
Hes a limited player but the little he can do, he is the best in the world at. I like how he even said himself that he isnt the guy who is goin to run round 10 players and score a goal. I actually dont think this had dawned on MLS fans.

However, im guessing the goalies are gonna be shite, so anything within 30 yards dead ball situation, my money would be on a goal.
