Default Ashes - THE BIG ONE

Just being trying to work out what England would do if we won the toss:

1. Field 1st.

a) Could bowl out ozzies for a low score. This would allow England to build a lead and go for win.
b) Could bowl to keep score down but not take wickets.. ie men on boundaries. If ozzies stay in for 1.5-2 days then a draw would be more likely.
c) Bad weather forecast for Sun/Monday ... bad light opportunities

2. Bat 1st

a) Get a good score on the board and hope to contain them
b) ???

I would field 1st tomorrow as if we are batting last we have the option to bat out for a draw whereas if Ozzies are batting last they have nothing to lose and would go all out for win.

Anyone else ?????

Bat first and try to run up a mammoth score. Going into the last day needing not to be bowled out is the last thing we need.

I agree with ksportz - stick them in first, play defensive and know what you need to do with the bat then.

At this point, England are winning - the pressure is on the Aussies to attack.

Why go on the defensive when the pressure is on the Aussies? Don't forget they still have some of the worlds best batsmen who are more than capable of putting 350 on the board in the first day against any bowling attack.
If we can get a score in the region of 400 they know they're in real trouble before we've even bowled a ball, and on form I trust our bowlers to bowl to a target over our batsmen batting to a target. Have you forgotten the last test already?

The so called experts say whoever bats first wins this game, but looking at the weather for thursday & friday a draw looks the best bet to me.

I'd call batting for a hundred overs a pretty big target
Especially with this likely to be the last ashes test for Mssrs. Warne and McGrath.

Betfair currently offering 2.44 for England to win the Ashes series 2-1... I've just thrown a couple of quid at it.

England trying not to lose and the British weather - decent partnership, perhaps...

it is such a tough match to call but i fear an Aussie batting backlash.

i've got a feeling that they will win the toss and bat first rake up a mammoth score and we'll have to hang on for the rest of the match.

if we win the toss we must bat first, we don't wanna be facing warne on a 5th day oval pitch.

I personally think that Eng will somehow win the Ashes but its' so important that our batsmen fire for this one.
