Just to add;

I saw a Vale v Stoke match in the 90's where (Steve?) Foley dived in on Neil Aspin much much higher than Taylor did today, and I saw Aspins leg bend in the wrong way under the force of the challenge.

I honestly think it was a combination of Aspins strength and the very soft pitch that saved him from very serious injury.

I have full sympathy for Eduardi and dearly hopes he makes a full recovery, but I don't think there was any malice in the challenge.

I think that its a borderline yellow card offence and if he hadn't been injured then would have felt a bit hard done by.

A referee told me that when a player is injured by foul play that the ref will sometimes make a decision depending on the seriousness of the injury, and so the ref may have felt it warranted a yellow, 'promoted' to a red because of the break.
Agreed definitely . He went in strong that's all. When you was playing as a defender or coaching one I'm sure you was told go in strong early doors and let the striker know you're there. That's all Taylor did. Unfortunately Eduardo's studs were stuck in the pitch and he leg had to be the one to give way .

I wonder if the Arsenal coaches will whine about it, the same coaches who said nothing at all last week when 3 arsenal players tried to take out Nani for showboating..

His studs are pointing down, his foot is the height the ball would be. Eduardo had lost control of the ball but due to his speed managed to get there fractionally before Taylor who as I said unfortunately got Eduardo's standing leg as he was turning. Purely an accident.

What a disastrous game. Another man lost for the season, 2 points dropped to a dodgy penalty decision. Cmon the toon.

Jeez. Its pretty hard to explain just by words....

If a player goes to make a tackle with his toes pointing upwards (towards 2 1 or 12 on a clock) then the studs are showing and its a dangerous challenge.

However, it looked to me as though Taylor went in with his foot flat (pointing toward 3) but slightly above ground, as 1000's of players will do so in fair challenges around the country over the weekend, and I have done many, many times.

If Eduardo's foot moves under the challenge then at worst he'd have bruising/swelling that wouldn't normally give him a seconds thought. However, even if Taylors boot connects with Eduardo's boot and Eduardo's foot is stuck then Taylors boot will ride up until it finds the point of least resistance, which unfortunately was Eduardo's leg.

Wenger fury after Eduardo injury

Martin Taylor (out of shot) is sent off as Eduardo receives treatment

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said Martin Taylor should "never play football again" after the Birmingham captain's tackle broke Eduardo's leg.
Eduardo went down after the challenge in the third minute of the Premier League encounter at St Andrew's and Taylor was shown a straight red card.
"The tackle was horrendous and this guy should never play football again," Wenger told BBC Sport.
"That kind of tackle was waiting to happen to one of our players."
He added: "I've seen some bad ones but they're not always punished with broken legs. You only need to kill one person one time. You cannot accept that on a football pitch.
"It was a massive shock for the team. Eduardo is a fantastic guy and for the players to see him in such pain and to see his leg in such a shape had an effect."
Eduardo, 24, remained on the pitch for seven minutes as medical staff attended to him before he was stretchered off and taken to Selly Oak Hospital.
The seriousness of the injury was apparent as both sets of players and medical staff looked shocked while Eduardo was treated on the pitch. Speaking on 5 Live, ex-Everton captain Kevin Ratcliffe said: "Looking at the players, especially (Cesc) Fabregas and Adebayor, realising the seriousness of the injury their heads went down immediately." The Brazilian-born striker looks certain to miss out on Croatia's participation at Euro 2008 in June.

Wenger sticking his nose in it again. I cant say I am shocked though. He has been doing it for years which I see as hypocritical given the way his team can be just as nasty in some of their dirty antics and what is worse is that I believe some of his players have deliberately attempted to injure players which taylor never did today. Even last week Gallas deliberately kicked Nani (far worse imo as there was intent if not real force), what if he had injured him then, would Wenger call for a ban for life? So many of his players have made terrible fouls, dangerous tackles over the years and I do not recall Wenger saying they should be banned for life? Wenger is a hyprocrite and this is why I fail to respect the man. Even a Spurs fan has to say they play brilliant attacking football at times but I struggle to give them credit purely due to the way their players act at times and the ridiculous way their manager behaves imo

Sorry Woody but thats an outrageous post. If you dont think that Wenger should be aggrieved about a tackle like this then you should be watching kickboxing, not football. The earlier picture doesnt do it justice i think this one below tells the real story- an absolutely horrorific tackle from Taylor. To compare it to what happened to nani last week is laughable.

If he cant "stick his nose in" as you put it, after losing one of his team to a tackle like that then when can he?? I'm logging off, not in the best of moods today and you've wound me up

I think Woodys 100% right with what he said about the Nani incident to this.
Gallas was diliberate with his petulant kicks out at Nani. What if he caught him on the ankle joint and fractured it?
Taylor never went in to do Eduardo harm therefore it's just a bad accident.
Plus the picture is after the tackle AK,he's gone in the air and Taylors pulling his feet back.

Note he wasn't rolling about on the floor like he has been doing for the last couple of weeks though.
