I had TV on but missed it so rewound it and actually didn't think the tackle looked that bad at first, I don't think it was malicious but hard to say as I don't know the player either. Looked like he had studs up but was not diving into a tackle. Broken leg for Eduardo by the sounds of it. It was seeing Fabregas, Adebayor and Hleb looking phsically sick and shocked that made you realise how serious the injury is. Taylor did go to Eduardo to offer his apologies and also seemed quite bothered by it.

Doesn't look too bad from this angle, but assume it is a lot worse from other angles?

That's the only angle they would show so I thought they were overreacting about the tackle rather than the injury.

From the Guardian Online :

21 min: Apologies for not watching the football for a couple of minutes - it's basically a training session anyway - but I've just seen a picture of Taylor's challenge, and it is completely and utterly disgraceful. Flying through the air studs up, he lunges in halfway up the shin of Eduardo's standing leg. The striker's leg clean snaps at a right angle; no wonder Fabregas was holding his head in his hands the minute he saw it. It's going to be an ethical dilemma for sports editors across the country, is this picture.

Not really much of a dilemma imo all the other bad tackles/ injuries through time shown over and over on TV and Print - if they don't show it's just PC gone mad.

Happened to our very own Rob Hulse last season - virtually ended our season and he hasn't been the same player since he came back from the double leg break. Also earlier this season Dyer got a double leg break - shown numerous times on TV.

Hopefully Eduardo will not have the same fate of another rising star - Ronaldo - blighted by serious injuries through his career, still became a football legend but who knows how much more he could have done?

Not nice at all though seen worse. Remeber that guy Busst (I think it was ) who broke his leg at Old Trafford and Schmeichel threw up in the penalty box when he saw it?

I really want to look but can't bring myself to.

I still remember Jim Beglin's one way back playing for Liverpool and that was splashed all over the back pages.

Yeah was just saying the same to MrV, seen the picture and it doesnt look as bad as the David Busst, or Luc Nilis legsnaps. Still brutal though.

Not sure what the red card was all about . Ok Eduardo's leg has gone and he makes a full recovery but the defender wasn't high or studs up or anything like that he just happened to catch Eduardo's standing leg as he was turning. Was a foul but you see those sorts of tackles all the time although thankfully not to such drastic outcomes.

I have to say that I don't think it was worthy of a red card...

I have full sympathy for Eduardi and dearly hopes he makes a full recovery, but I don't think there was any malice in the challenge.

I think that its a borderline yellow card offence and if he hadn't been injured then would have felt a bit hard done by.

A referee told me that when a player is injured by foul play that the ref will sometimes make a decision depending on the seriousness of the injury, and so the ref may have felt it warranted a yellow, 'promoted' to a red because of the break.
