Default XBox 720 or PS4?

I owned an XBox, but not a PS2
I own an XBox360, but not a PS3

But was thinking earlier - if a new next generation console were released tomorrow, I would probably go for a Playstation (other things equal - price/spec etc).

I've lost confidence in XBox following the fiasco that is the RROD.
I also feel totally scammed by the RRP for Rock Band (v USA RRP) and see that Playstation games are not region blocked, so no comprable problem there (maybe the reason PS3 wasn't similtaneously released with XBox360 version?)

What put me off the current generation of Playstation was the price being talked about (I accept it included bluray player for example, but that's not big for me, I wanted a games console) and the delay over 360,

Although Nintendo is the clear winner at the moment, their machine is clearly inferior and I dont view it as "at the races" - they have won this generation on the basis of innovation - their controllers - but I see nothing stopping this style technology being introduced on XBox and PS. If it is, then nintendo is a mile behind.

So, without knowing any of the details of specs/pricing etc, but based, retrospectively on current generation launches, what would you buy next time?

PS4, I've never really felt let down by Sony, I had a PS1 which was a great console at the time, I thought the PS2 was a great machine (still got mine) and PS3 is spot on, played on X box 360 and only plus there would be the controllers, PS3 controllers feel a bit cheap and toy like. So many people have had their x box fcuk up and ended up getting a PS3 anyway. They were ahead of the game with the blu-ray player, HD DVD will be just another betamax now that no-one wants or cares to remember. If you can get a game like Time Crisis on PS3 it's only a matter of time before they can bring out new controllers like for the Wii and have some interactive PS3 gaming, it would walk all over Nintendo if they ever got that sorted.

If i still liked the occasional game by the time the console comes out, then it would probably be the 720. Sony can rely on its name to sell without having to bring out top notch games.

I don't see the 720 having any faults, not after the last time.

Just been looking at a XBox360 v PS3 Graphics comparison - am stunned that the 360 comes out well on top.... http://uk.gamespot.com/features/6191251/index.html

Quote:
Our first graphics comparison between the two consoles showed that the Xbox 360 looked better on most of the games, oftentimes drastically so. The second graphics comparison showed that the PlayStation 3 looked nearly as good as the Xbox 360 in some games, and actually looked better in a few as well.

Well firstly the Blu Ray feature, I can imagine that the next Xbox will come with Blu Ray as a main feature seeing as it seems to have been decided by the industry that Blu Ray is the way forward. After struggling to get used to the different Xbox 360 controller, I find the online experience works well and the graphics are definitely good enough, especially on an HD tv. I am disappointed however by the reluctance for games to go across the board. Although I can understand that a console developer wants specific games to be exclusively theirs, there is no way that I would spend more than £200 to buy a console just to play a single game and yet that's preventing me now from playing Gran Turismo, a game that I would love to have!

One major flaw with the Xbox appears to be that the game can freeze occasionally. Although I have only witnessed this with GTA IV I'm sure it could happen with other games. In addition to that, I believe you can save games on to the Hard Drive of a PS3? Which would be useful if it were a feature for Xbox 360 as I have a 120gb Hard drive and yet because of my slow download speed it seems a waste of time. Add in the fact that sometimes when I eject a cd, the cd spins around and no doubt scratches and being able to store the game on HD would allow for better gaming experience, the cd to be better protected and I presume faster loading and running times.

So at the moment each console has it's advantages and disadvantages but right now I think I would look towards the Xbox, instead of the PS. Depends what funky new features each of them bring then I guess.

TBH I own both PS3 and 360Elite and apart from the blu-ray Ive hardley touched the PS3, my brother in law has just sold his cus he didnt use it.
Sony have fooked up big time with the lack of 'exclusive' games on offer.
Fook me what have we got this month? a Halo rip off..........

As a games console the 360 pisses all over the PS3, yeah sure you have to buy the microsoft points and Xbox Live but Id still pay for it as the servers are miles faster.

I read somewhere that Microsoft are thinking of an addon for the 360 regarding blu-ray but will have it standard in the next machine.

I also find the PS3 pads shite, too small and too delicate, at least the 360 ones arent as big as the original ones but they fit well in your hand and you feel like your holding something solid.

id definatly buy the next Xbox but after owning a PS1(3 times) and a PS2 (hardley used) and now the PS3 Id still shell out for a PS4 but my priorty would be the next 360.

The Wii is out of the question for me, sh1te graphics for a start and the fact that i personally like to sit down to play my games and chillax, not wave my hands around like a fooken loon to open a door. I understand its appeal, but its not for me, good for parties but not much else.

Xbox just didnt do for me, never owned one but did play one many years ago, and the newer one a few times, reliaibilty is the main prob here, i don't want a machine that everytime i press the button i have to cross my fingers and hope it loads. Paying for the Internet is another reason ( i know its not much etc etc) but more than free is too much for me. I think if the reliabilty issue was sorted and the PS4 was crap then I'd think about it.

PS4 would be my choice without looking or seeing specs. I have owned all the PS systems and loved everyone of them. The PS2 was a great machine and pissed all over Xbox, I gave mine to my brother when i got the PS3 and it stil works, that machine must be some age (got it near launch) and i never had a problem, I really like my PS3, I got the 60gig, so mine came with 60GIG HD, usb slots, memory card reader, Blue Ray drive, BC capability so i can still play my PS2 games. Built in WI FI, remote play via my PSP. Good games and good Internet browser (not great but good)

I agree that both Xbox and PS graphics wise look the same and it does come down to which console or company you prefer, whenever the next generation come out, there will be alot of lessons learned from both companies and the decission on which console will become even harder, but it will take alot to sway me away from my PS its been with me for most of life. Along with Nintendo, Atari, Spectrum, Dragon and Sega

I got pro evo 7 last week for the 360 and it was crap. I sold it. I have to say though, pro evo 6 for the same console blows it out of the water. The graphics are alot crisper, and the gameplay much better.

The last 2 have been poor, When you say over everything, you mean all games, because i love the PES series and have the lastest one, but games that are better than are:

R:FOM
Motorstorm
COD 4
Burnout
Tiger Woods
Uncharted
Even Fifa has closed the gap, maybe not a better game but its close. That new Euro one was good, I enjoyed the demo.

PES on the PS had bad graphics and the replays suck ass, gameplay is bad and how many years do they need to be told to sort out the AI, its fecken shocking. Yes i'd still buy it (i did) and play but PES over everything else is a silly statement.
