Default Wii Tennis

Is there a knack to this as I keep getting mullered by my 11 year old. The instructions are pretty lame and I guess there are no buttons to press (well I dont).

When I play against the console I can win and have my skill points above 700 but when I play against him I lose 3-0 and hardly score a point and he tells me he is doing nothing special. He was out for the day yesterday so I thought I'd play a few games and try and get to pro level, I finished up below 600

Is it an age thing, a height thing or is he doing something that he is not telling me.

had a go on this last month at my mates - first time i'd used a wii and slaughtered the lads on tennis. my mate was saying that as you turn your wrist it puts spin on the ball too - not sure if this is right but might be worth trying.

if that fails try breaking his wrist - depends how much you want to beat your lad really

Decided to change his Mii profile to left handed and I got to deuce in the first game, then he sussed what I had done, switched the remote to his left hand and still wooped me 3-0

Just a general question really. Not tried a Wii console but have read about it. Sounds like a pretty neat box of tricks. Do you guys rate it having used it awhile though ?

i'd been really wanting to have a go for a while but the novelty soon wore off - may be better in a few years with more games and better technology. i'm not convinced of the longevity.

Thats my one concern over getting one. Worried that there will be too much focus on incorporating the controllers rather than making quality games. The controller may be good to start with but it wont work on its own if they dont have quality games to take advantage of it.

the other thing that i'm not sure of is how playable it'd be on your own, but then I'm not a huge computer game player anyhow.

agree with this, I found it a good laugh with M8s and a few beers, My M8 lefts his in mine and I aint touched it. The games just don't appeal to me

He has Zelda and Res Evil but I dont want to be waving my arms around when playing these games. Maddens was Mad but again good with M8s but i dont want to be doing throwing actions when playing game on me own.

Next Few Months will c the rise and rise of the PS3 , some cracken games coming.

I'd say it is good family fun mate, nothing there for serious gamers. The tiger woods game is awesome on the Wii but the concept does lend itself to that type of game with bats, rackets clubs etc

I bought a WII about 2 months ago and I can understand peoples concerns about its longevity but it's relatively cheap and good fun particularly if you have someone else to play with.

The WII Sports is the main game for the console and the boxing in particular can be like a proper workout which has to be another plus for us couch potatoes .

I also have WII Play which isn't as good IMO - theres about 9 games but only 2 or 3 are any good - Air Hockey and Pool are probably the best.

The consoles success will depend on the quality of future releases and the use of the unique controller but I quite like it and I'd not played games since the ZX Spectrum days !

Apparently they're releasing Darts on the WII before Xmas but I'm not sure about it's playability. There's not exactly a lot of ways to throw a dart is there ?

to PL hoprock!

interesting you mention the boxing and the work out as thats one of the first things i was thinking about with the wii - use it for exercise as well as pleasure.

how much of a work out do you get from the boxing (or does it depend how much you box?)?

Im not really a big game player, never have been to be honest. Infact, until about a fortnight ago id never even heard of the Wii

However, i played one at a mates last week and gotta say they are fantastic. Had one game of Tennis, but there was also a ten pin bowling game, a golf game, but the best one was Baseball.

The baseball game was great, spent hours playing it so i suggest to anyone to try that out

thanks Aliando

I actually think the fitness side of it is played down quite a bit and it was certainly in my thinking when I bought one.

The boxing is a real good workout if you throw yourself into it. It's 3 one minute rounds but you can really work up a sweat from just one or two bouts. The other games are less energetic but still good for getting you moving about.

As a general comment, I also like the way it stores all your records and scores automatically so you can aim for Personal Bests etc

agree with you, its the same issue thats been running through this whole thread, good orginal idea, but could easily get boring. With the novelty of working out to a Wii fit game on a board getting thin.
