| Mine just likes to d/c every night, every 15/20mins after 7pm for a few mins at a time ![]() Ringing the ISP is no use at all. Simply, it's the state of broadband in the UK today ![]() |

| Im with Virgin and my connection has been temperamental the last week or so. Its not to the same extent as yours though - usually a few refreshes seems to sort mine out - its still very annoying though.

| When they think you've downloaded too much you're service suddenly becomes about 28K (yes that's right...half the speed of dialup!) ![]() Last edited by happygooner; 12-05-2008 at 22:35. |

| I have a pc and laptop and my internet provider is sky. I have been having EXACTLY the same problems even though it says I have a good connection!!! ![]() ![]() Good news though (hopefully) Sky have allowed my to drop out of my contract early with no charges and I go live with Nildram tomorrow, who have a very good reputation!

| My sister is with Virgin and has been for many years. For most of these many years she is what I'd call a very light internet user, but like all of us as the kids get older the PC becomes used more and more. Even now though, I would say that she isn't a heavy user by any means but her service is getting throttled like fcuk by the cowbiys at Virgin. It appears (after doing a little searching) that they are one of the worst in using this outdated(?) practice. I use Madasafish and they are superb (I know Nildram are the dogs 'nads but you pay for it(?)).

| It might not actually be your ISP. What's the connection like when it's plugged into the wall? I've got something odd going on with my wireless at the the minute and I can't for the life of me work out what it is. It's like the modem won't let my router have an IP address. So from my side everything's fine I appear to be connected, but my router can't communicate with the outside world.

| Type in your location for the exchange details on: http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php This will tell you what actually is available and whether the "good" ISP company has its own equipment installed. If it has not, then changing company makes no difference to the service speed - it is the same bottleneck for all. |
