Though I'm a new beginner at DVD burning, this link will be old hat to some of the old hacks on the forum. However, it provides a lot of useful techniques to those of us with little experience in the field, as it were. After Dawn

nice calendar site. 1. alot of folks aren't aware of this one below where you can watch Live or On Demand webcast seminars done by microsoft for FREE using a .Net Passport account like hotmail etc. Perfect for broadband internet connections. www.microsoft.com/seminar...fault.mspx 2. Also Microsoft just opened a new security guidance site on how to protect your computer from malicious activity with free security tools to download and security newsletter alerts via email. www.microsoft.com/securit...fault.mspx 3. on that security guide site above you will find this tool below called: Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) Use this tool to identify common security misconfigurations and missing security updates. MBSA runs on the Windows Server™ 2003, Windows® 2000, and Windows XP operating systems and will scan for vulnerabilities in multiple products and technologies, including Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) and SQL Server™. www.microsoft.com/downloa...layLang=en

The software on this link is totally untried by me but since the highly respected List of Lists will be highlighting it, I guess the credentials are approved. An update page for Microsoft products. AutoPatcher

A dvd question here. I've already looked into copying DVD to VCD. (I don't have a DVD burner.) The thing that puts me off is the hours and hours it takes to compile and burn a dvd to CD (basically most of a day.) Anyway, Keeper, Peter or anybody - Is there any progs. or a way to copy a dvd onto your h/d (or to CD) that enables you to watch it from there and doesn't take so long?

it's going to take a while to compile both ways. ripping and vcd burning. Reason is when you rip it I think you'll also have to convert it to a codec for the computer like DivX (.avi) and then you can watch it. same thing when creating a vcd...the compile takes a while and these dvd burners that are out today have yet to catch up to cd-rw drives due to teh companies money making scheme of getting every once of dollar for increasing the speeds slowly. the highest i've seen now is 8x and next will be 12x then 16x then 18x, 22x, 24x 26x, 32x all the way up to cd speed of 52x which i'm sure can be done but manufacturers rather to squeeze every dime out of consumers with little upgrade in speeds gradually

Cheers for the offer Slick, but I'm only on 56k so a full d/l would take about a week and would waste too much of your time. Was following Peter's links above and wanting to copy DVDs to VCD but can't be arsed with a 10-15 hour wait for the process to be complete. Again, ta slick.
