| I'm just starting to replace all the gear that got nicked from my house at Christmas. I've bought a combi DVD/VCR player and want to buy a surround sound system. Can I buy just surround sound speakers and plug them in or do I need an amp? What's this 5.1 thing I keep reading about? Any recommended makes/models? Cheers fellas. |

| 5.1 means 5 speakers and 1 sub woofer/ bass bin. If you want my advice get yourself a cable and plug in your hi-fi, and fix the speakers up in the corners of your room. It works just aswell. You do need an amp but whichever you choose, there will be one in with it. There is less cables if you use your hi-fi. And the cable will only cost a tenner, a decent system will cost at least a tonne. |
