Streaming Audio (.ram , rm files) - The Punters Lounge

I have downloaded some streaming audio files from the BBC site which uses RealPlayer.

Two files download one has a .ram suffix is (stated as RealPlayer Present) and is tiny and the other is .rm which is a few Mb.

Both seem to play the same recording.

Can anyone confirm the difference?

It seems that the .ram file just contains a link to the internet site and the .rm file is presumably stand alone, without the internet.

Yep pretty much as you said, a *.ram file is a metafile which links a webpage to the audio clip, it should also launch RealOne Pleayer as well. It is very small as the file only contains a link to the audio file and an instruction to launch the player.

The *.rm file is the audio file itself that can be played stand-alone, not having to stream over the internet.

totally agree with steve here.

You can try it. Try to burn a .ram file

.. doesn´t work

You need the .rm file to have the music on your hard drive.
