Default Serious Problems

Right, whats happening is when i boot up my pc and when its nearly booted up, if the welcome to windows box does not appear nothing will load when i connect to the net. I have to reboot and start from scratch i cannot even close down properly as when i choose that option or restart everything freezes so have to switch off the by just turning it off and on. this can go on as much as 6 or 7 times and literally take half an hour to get online. I have mcafee antivirus iinstalled and ran that today and no viruses or anything i also have ad aware and use that i just do not know what is happening with it it is windows 98. any one any ideas? Thanks in advance

dunno Tommo,

first i would open the PC and check all wiring, just check if all the boards are plugged in fast, all connectors are not lose, any lose wiring somewhere, then check all cables, all external connectors.

Sounds like a virus or something is trying to run in the background using up all ure ram.

Have you installed anything recently? boot up in safe mode and remove any progs u dont use or recognise.

if that doesent work, goto 'run' and type in 'msconfig'

In start programs deselect 1 file @ a time untill u get a normal boot.

hmm , can it be a virus if your machine wont even start up?

it sounds like datapunter may be right , I think it could be loose memory or some hardware peroblem.

take a look inside mate as I'm gueessing since your using win98 then your warranty's expired anyway

sometimes my PC starts rattling....

i usually kick it...

does the trick...

might help here too...

seriously, see if you can eliminate a lose wire, then look elsewhere.

might be usefull to check the programs that run automatically at startup, ( use Safe mode ), and switch all of them off. See what gives...
