recommend a free firewall please - The Punters Lounge

After running around in circles with Mcafee online support i've given up on them and am looking for any suggestions of a decent free firewall .
Have been looking at PC Tools software version to download, any thoughts ???

Kerio Personal Firewall - full version trial for a month or so, then continues as a lightweight version - google either Kerio or sunbelt or sunbelt software

Works pretty well with AVG Free (antivirus)

Ive been using ZoneAlarm for years, with no problems at all.

Had loads of problems with Zone Alarm and switched to COMODO firewall pro.

Not had 1 problem since.

Whichever one you go for, after you are setup i would suggest you goto the grc website http://www.grc.com/default.htm and do the various security tests like ShieldsUP! and LeakTest

2nd recommendation and if IIRC it came top by far in a comparative test not too long ago - not for beginners though..

Funny you should say that, because the way my Comodo is set up its very similar to ZA in the way it 'learns'.

I just use Windows Firewall with AVG (free) and in the 5 years i ve had my current laptop I have never had a problem or virus etc etc

I used to have ZA but it was a pain in the arse and would block things for the sake of it.

Yep I was using version 1 which had none of that. Not long ago moved to ESET as it's an all in one package

The most annoying, but I feel secured with it installed.
