printer/scanner/fax

just bought one today
set everything up scans prints etc
how do you set up the fax if you are on cable and it goes through your set top box ?
Tried the help on the cd they sent with it but nothing comes up at all
tried the fax wizard on xp and it says enter fax no in one box .
Is that your own telephone number or what
any help apreciated guys
