Default Photo editing software help

Hi all,

Just wondering if you good people out there could reccomend me a good photo editing software. The standard windows Microsoft Paint just doesnt suffice

Just need something i can download quickly. Doesnt have to be state of the art or anything, just something that will be usefull for creating and editing images.

Cheers

The best programme by far is Adobe Photoshop.
Its the only programme I use and although it looks a bit complicated at first theres loads of tutorials out there.
I can send you the program and crack over MSN if you want.

As Carl says the best in the business is CS2 but it can be very confusing if you havnt any or not too much experience. Also very expensive but as Carl said there are other ways to get it.

For the novice Adobe Elements is good, quite straightforward yet very powerful, i think version 5 is out now but any of the older versions are fine.
Paint Shop Pro is also quite cheap and fairly friendly to those that hve limited experience, version XI is the lastest but anything from version 7 is ok.
Free programmes are out there but quite limited, Picasa2 is good for what it is, free from google.

Any questions just shout up, spend half my life on these things.

Carl, depends what you use it for, its better for me coz the workflow for sorting images has improved with Bridge, also i reckon its better for web designers and the like, version cue has been added which enables you to manage photos in a workgroup.
Some other user friendly improvements buts its so bloody big you dont use half the stuff anyway, so unless you upload tons of photos which you now batch process its much the same as CS1.
I use Bridge all the time and then transfer to CS2 to edit, use lots of plugins, filters and actions. Just got a wicked action for turning a normal photo into a comic style figure, about 50 processes all by just pressing one button, actions are very useful, dont know if you bother with them, you can download lots for free, also got one which turns a photo into a Rubix Cube like thing. Youd never remember how to do it normally but the actions do.
Prefer CS because of the curves which isnt in Elements, also use Adobe Lightroom which will be on general release this year, the beta version is very impressive, again its mainly for improving photos not for cutting and pasting etc...

Could go on all day

Cheers mate
