Default Phone recording.

How easy or hard is it to link up your home phone to your hard drive. Had the builder on phone earlier making threats, and in future I would like to be able to record these calls , and then be able to produce as evidence if needs be??

Anyone help??

Cheers JJ.

Looked into it myself a few times JJ with not much success. It should be easy enough but it aint even with expensive software. I thought it would be simple but i actually found it not to be really possible which suprised me.

Best i can suggest is a scout about google for a telephone box recorder which are about £20

You might have to check the legality of this JJ as I think you may have to warn anyone before hand that their conversation may be recorded otherwise it's not admissable in court as evidence (which is why you get the message about your conversation being recorded for training purposes etc when you ring up a call centre / helpdesk etc). But I'm not 100% certain of this. It's similar to the issue of phone tapping evidence being used in terrorist cases which the Government has been dealing with recently.

i am not sure to be honest you would be breaking the law. If the police were doing it then yes you would need authority however recording someone at home i'm not so sure about.

I think you could get round it by "not targeting anything it particular".

Might be wrong though.

Can I record telephone conversations on my home phone?

Yes. The relevant law, RIPA, does not prohibit individuals from recording their own communications provided that the recording is for their own use. Recording or monitoring are only prohibited where some of the contents of the communication - which can be a phone conversation or an e-mail - are made available to a third party, ie someone who was neither the caller or sender nor the intended recipient of the original communication. For further information see the Home Office website where RIPA is posted.

Sorry not sure how to do this properly or if you allow people to do this but taken the above from a websire called http://www.retellrecorders.co.uk/legal/home.htm.

So i guess you can record at home.

Remember looking into this a while back for Komp then forgetting all about it and not telling him

Theres a proggy called 'Modem spy' which seems like it will do the job, check it out in google then get if from 'nxecure' as ive seen it knocking about in there.

Thanks for clarifying the law point StaffordRangersFan. Can't really see why you would want to record someone else just for your own benefit. I assume JJBear was wanting to make the recording so that he could threaten the builder with court action but of course this would mean making the recording available to a third party i.e. the court or a solicitor so I guess it would all just be a waste of time.

no the way round it would be to record all coverstaions from now on. therefore if you do need to use it as evidence then you can because it was just a chance recording.
