Default Optical mouse problems

I've got a Logitech wireless optical mouse and it keeps going nuts on me. I'll move it to the top of the screen to click something and the cursor will appear at the bottom of the screen and sometimes vice versa. I click the left button on the mouse and sometimes nothing happens, have to click it like 4 times for a response. I've adjusted settings etc and it's just the same. Is this a common problem with these optical types rather than those with the rollerball thing in them and how long can you expect a mouse to work for? I don't know if there is some issue with it or to just bin it and buy another.

Is it battery powered? If so are they fully charged?

Yes, battery powered, changed them about 2 weeks ago, they aren't rechargeable ones.

I can't help with a solution but I can say that I've always had problems with the optical mouses. I just can't seem to get on with them at all. The pointer has a mind of it's own and the times it flies up to the top right hand corner and wants to shut all my windows down... well I've lost count.

I've never had a problem with mine, I've got a logitech.

I wonder if it's got some dirt on it. Have you tried googling the problem?

My one does exactly the same thing when the batteries are low.

Ive always got 6 rechargeable on rotation, usually last about 2 weeks each.

Just because the batteries are new doesn't mean they're good.

I've always used corded ones and never had a problem. Are you using a mouse pad or just the table surface? Some surfaces aren't very good to use a mouse on, so test on an old mouse pad or something if you have one and see if it's any better. Also, try with different batteries. Another thing, have you moved the receiver at all? maybe it's in a bad spot or something (i don't know how sensitive they are)
