Default Monitor resolution

And one more thing, if anyone can update me. I've got a 17'' monitor which was working very well, but suddenly crashed and now it works in the 800 x 600 resolution instead of the precious 1024 x 768. I am told (but the source is not very reliable) it's not a problem of a graphic card, but the computer itself and it needs to be repaired. I am not lazy, but a bit too busy to afford a week or two without a monitor and the monitor was a gift of my father-in-law to me (rather my wife) so it's a bit difficult as he has all the documents. Do you think it's sure the monitor thing?

Default Drivers

Most likely graphics card drivers not installed, or the monitor is not recognised Tulenos it sounds like to me - there won't be anything wrong with the monitor.

Right click desktop, go to Properties, Settings, Advanced, Adapter and see if your graphics card is in there - if it says Unknown or something like that then you need to install the latest graphics card drivers.

That's what I reckon anyway

I managed to righ @#%$ my computer up playing with the resolution. Stuck it up to the highest possible and as soon as I clicked apply the screen went blank. Real pain was it done this everytime it opened windows so I couldnt get back into windows to change it back. Resulted in me buying the new computer Id been threatening to get for the previous 9 months.

Will try it, thanx both. The only thing which worries me is the monitor crashed this way in the middle of working on it and now it's possible to change the resolution back to 1024 x 768, but the comp can't remember it after restart. Also, working with the resolution hold something like several hours only.
