Default Help Please

On Saturday Avast flashed up with
Program Files\Spyware Doctor|sdinfo.sdp
i quarantined it and then uninstalled Spyware Doctor
and then reinstalled it.
I then ran a boot time scan with Avast
it found
win32 Trojan-gen(other) Virus/Worm
in an old game of my wife's that she hasn't played
for months.
I deleted the file and then uninstalled the game.
further scans with Avast have been clear.
spybot = clear

yesterday i tried to run 4 on line scanners
Windows Live Scan
Trend micro Housecall
Kappersky
EMSI A Squared

none of them completed

Lavasoft Adaware full scan =failed to complete

Kappersky came up with
Trace Registry NetPal
but i couldn't delete it cause the scan failed to finish.

Apart from these scan failures the pc seems to be working fine.
but i aren't convinced all is well
peed off as until i had that problem with
Known_bad_sites that Spyware Doctor found
i had gone over a year without any problems
just knew it couldn't last

any ideas guys
i regularly update and scan all my security stuff.
i hadn't got complacent
i haven't been on any porn sites
( don't know about the wife though )

at a loss as to why these scanners don't complete

am i worrying over nothing ?

I know what you mean about having the feeling all is not well.

Have you tried the AVG, Im not keen on online scanners tbh but I use Zonealarmand AVG and its very rare that I pick up nasties on the net.

http://free.avg.com/

Its worth downloading that and running it and see what it picks up.

I wouldn't worry over the fact that the scanners didnt complete.

Agree, on-line scan should be tried. Kaspersky also has one.
Another thing to try is to run anti-virus in Safe Mode - Press F8 or similar at boot-up.
If you have System Restore on then stop it to get rid of anything hiding there.
AV not completing is not a good sign and you are right to be concerned.

I hate Norton with a passion, it gets into everything. You can't just un-install it either its a right pain to get shut of.

All I use is Zonealarm Pro, AVG8, Ccleaner, System Mechanic.

Plenty of free stuff out there Pete rather than pay £50.

Im with Carl on this....

I cannot stand Norton or McAfee....

I stilll have Norton orphan files on my PC despite ridding myself of it about 3 years ago....

I use AVG at present and have had no problems at all, although I do believe that AVG free wont be around much longer - However, I am willing to spend the $50 price mooted about for their pro-version if this happens!

thanks mate
still can't get the AVG to complete a scan ?
I tried the online kapersky it found 3 items but failed to complete the scan.
I never have system restore turned on
it never seems to work if you have a problem anyway.

last night i downloaded A_SQUARED MALWARE on a 30 day trial
it completed its scan and found a trojan in a htl file in Adobe Bridge
so I have now deleted Adobe Photoshop.
I can re-install it later
tried Kapersky again and it completed this time but it found 2 items
they were in A-SQUARED MALWARE
so I have now deleted A_SQUARED ANTI MALWARE ???

Spyware Doctor is scanning clean
I have used CCLEANER again and will go through all the scans again
starting with a boot time scan with Avast

this morning I kept getting thrown out of the Racing Post website
took me ages to pick my nags

will try the scans and let you know what happens

Default Re: Help Please

the boot time scan with Avast found NO INFECTIONS
but one corrupt file. It was a file that I don't need or use now
so its binned

left it Scanning with Windows Livescan
it failed to complete 54%

There was also a square box on screen nothing to do with Windows Livescan.
pctAuxs.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close..........

i have done a Google search and this is part of Spyware Doctor
so I am thinking I might uninstall and then reinstall Spyware Doctor.

no problems with the Racing Post website this morning haven't been
thrown out once. computer is behaving normal ( quite good in fact )
so will see how it goes.

not confident i am in the clear but
